I'll be 22 when we next go but just wondering if places in Orlando will accept a UK driving licence as ID? Obviously I'll have my passport but I hate carrying that around!!

I went to LA/Vegas last year for my 21st (literally about a week or 2 after I turned 21) and in LA they wouldn't accept our driving licences so after that I carried our Passports about but then in Vegas we only ever got IDed once (which totally surprised me!) so bit of a waste carrying them!

Would just rather not take passport about all day incase a cocktail takes our fancy, lol. I know photocopies are sometimes accepted?

I never had any problems using a driving licence at WDW(epcot and All Stars Music) however no experience outside of WDW.

Some places say that a UK driving licence isn't acceptable, Flying Fish for example, because they are unfamiliar with it and could not readily tell a fake from the genuine article.

It's hit or miss I think... Most places seem OK with it but I have heard incidences of people being told that foreign driving licenses aren't accepted.

Flying Fish do accept a UK Driving Licence. We have used ours in there a few times :goodvibes

Me and DH have used ours in numerous places in WDW, Universal and around Orlando and have never had a problem. Occasionally they may ask a manager to double check if they have nt seen a UK one before but have never had a problem in the last 3 years. :goodvibes

We have used photo DL since we got them, never a problem onsite or offsite. What about taking a photocopy of passport as back up, if any doubt with DL then they could verify with passport details.

its a bit inconsistent with asking for ID at WDW too, I find that I am asked at bars however have never once been asked when having wine with a meal.

Last year at Pleasure Island they would not accept a plastic very-hard-to-fake Belgian ID card, but they did accept a silly pink piece of paper with a glued on picture that says "driver's license". :confused3

When we went in April we showed a credit card sized, laminated copy of the back of our passports-this was excepted wherever we was asked(mine was mainly for use with my pre-paid card if i had to sign)-but in saying that,i am 34 and was asked 2 times in Seaworld when ordering a Bud,and was also asked in TGI Friday's when ordering a cocktail,i was quite flattered and took it as a compliment .x.

p.s the passport agency recommend you take a laminated copy of your passport anyway instead of carrying around your original :thumbsup2.x.

A couple of years ago DW and I were at the checkout in Wal-Mart and were asked for ID when some beer was put through. We're in our early 40's but were still refused the beer without ID.
I'm used to it now, but on my first over-21 trip to WDW (in 1987) I was a very young-looking 21, and tried to get a pint in the Rose & Crown, and was refused my paper driving licence as it didn't have a picture. I remember being extremely frustrated
I've never had my new picture driving licence refused, though mostly I'm asked it for verifying credit card payments these days.

The British driving license is an approved form of ID at WDW and should be accepted at all Disney outlets. It is in the Disney Training manual that is given to all F&B servers who work on property. You may need to watch out at some of the particpants and I know for sure that Jelly Rolls will not accept a driving license, it must be a passsport.

I always photocopy my passport and never had any problems. Came in handy in Wal Mart. Bought wine and beer and got asked for ID.....I'm 48!!!

Obviously they must ask everyone. Cheered me up though. Kids thought it was hilarious :lmao:

I can confirm that everywhere in Disney should accept the UK Driving Licence, it is on their list of approved ID's. However Jellyrolls especially are very strict and do ask for a passport. I think this is because they are not actually Disney owned.

All Disney cast members are told to ID anybody looking under 30. I even once asked for ID for somebody on their 40th Birthday - I made her whole evening!

We have been to Jellyrolls about 4 times in the last 2 years and they have accepted a UK driving license every time we have been without any problem. I am 32 and GF is 31

Just a wee note, we asked one of the Door guys at PI why they ask everyone and we were told it was due to insurance and the prospect that if any thing happend and there were under age people in then they could get sued(which is apparently very common thing) for that plus licencing laws etc. They have these little books that show them all the ID's for all the colleges, driving licences etc so they can spot the fakes.
DH is 36 was really pleased to be asked for ID it was even funnier when the guy asking him was about 24 :lmao::lmao:

We've never had a problem with using our photo DL's in and around WDW, Universal or Orlando. I was chuffed when they came out because it meant I didn't have to lug our passports around anymore. :thumbsup2

The only place we ever encountered an unsure CM, was entering a gig at House of Blues. The *younger-than-us* female door person asked a policeman patrolling DTD if it was a legal form of ID. She was quite excited to find out that it was indeed "real" and couldn't believe that we had come all the way over to the US from the UK.

For sure, anyone who looks under 35 y.o. will be ID'd when trying to buy alcohol. It always brightens my day as it's a long time since I've been asked for ID at home. :rotfl2:
