We are all talking about great places to eat in the UK, so why dont we all get together, sample a bit of yummy food and have a UK DIS Mini Meet? What do you think? Surgetsions for when and where please.

:bounce: Emma :bounce:

Tartan Tigger and I tried this.I take it you mean in the UK somewhere? We didn't manage to get many people there but we still had a good time.Hope you are a bit more successful!!!

Hi Emma,
We've had some big UK DIS meets over the last three years or so and I've also been to a few really enjoyable mini-meets.
Firstly, to establish the "where", whereabouts are you and which places are convenient for you to get to?

I'm usually up for a meet if it's 'down south' :)

Penny :)

I'm up for a meet, Scotland suits me best:D Emma you could use some of your insurance money and head up North.:D

Okay, I know I'm new to the boards but how does this sound ?

London.

A weekend in early summer.

Perhaps going something like this ..

Matinee of Lion King stage show .. followed by food and drinks ... and drinks.

I know a few pubs in the city that will either give a room or floor for a small fee ( with guarenteed bar money ) maybe with food ? or a TGI's kinda thing ? I know a few American style eateries in London too which might be a popular theme here ..

Or maybe a picnic ?

Shame the Disney store doesn't have a bar though .......

Maybe you should suggest that idea to the Disney Store! Then we could hold DIS meets all over the country ;)

I'd be interested - just depends when and where to know whether or not I could make it.

............ speaking of the Disney Store, the very first UK DIS meet was held in Lakeside and we decided to meet outside the Disney Store ( was that October '98 or '99?) Most of us had never met before and I think it would be fair to say that most of us ( with the exception I think of Vernon and Simon - you can dispute that if you want to guys ;) ) were pretty scared!!! It seems strange now, but I can remember trying to stop my hands shaking and then I looked around and there were several pairs of trembly hands :D

Sorry............. just having a quick reminisce there :D

Welcome to the boards Lemur :) - we don't usually bother to pay for a room, on a couple of occasions we've met in pubs with gardens ( amazingly both days were hot and sunny!) and it worked out really well :)
I should add that DaveSD and DaveFM have been responsble for some wonderful elaborate Northern meets which have lasted a whole weekend - but I'll leave that description to those who attended :)

I really dont mind travelling as long as everyone else doesnt. I'd love to meet up with tartan tigger and co, someone needs to make a decision but as I'm a true gemini I cant :D

Emma

The Northern Meets last summer and Christmas were a great success.

The committee is still organising this years summer meet but its schedulled for the weekend of 27th/28th July 2002 at South Sheilds Beach. Theres some info on our web site The UK Northern Meet and piccys etc from last years meet. I'm sure we'll be mentioning it here more closer to the event :)

Thanks for the link Dave, I hope people dont think that ive been treading on others toes, i hadnt seen this link before.

Im going to try to make it for sure, i think its a great idea

Emma

Your not treading on any toes :)

The more meets the better as far as I'm concerned, we just felt as folks were travelling from as far as Scotland and the south coast to the Northern Meet and committing to hotel rooms etc, we'd make it a more of a weekend long event to justify the journey.
At the Christmas Northern meet even the folks who lived local booked into the hotel we all used for the Saturday night, can't think why ?........oh yes we had a late bar :)

'The Committee' LOL Dave - well, don't I feel part of something important now!!! :)

I think that the location is just great, like you say, you want as many people as poss to come and Scottland is a lllllooooooonnnnnggggg way :D so meeting up in the middle is logical.

keep us updated!!

Emma

Well unfortunately i will be away on holiday for the Northern meet, but i am goig to try and make the oxford meet that wendy has organised but i would really be up for a day out in London ie to see a show and then go for a meal. When i move back to London in a couple of weeks let me know and i can help with any arrangements.

Eda

Meeting in the middle sounds fair to me. May have to leave a day earlier though, I always take a wrong turning somewhere!!!!

I'm up for going to South Shields for the Northern meet along with ThumperThistle. I think Bouncy is going to come too.

Ah! The Meet season is upon us once more!!!

The more the merrier at Shields, I say - bring beer!!

We (The Committee) have all been a tad busy lately but I expect we'll start puttin plans down in May and will keep you all posted. In the meantime there's general info on the website www.uknorthernmeet.co.uk and anyone can e mail us there or personally if they have specific questions/needs.

....... I'll be away on holiday too Dave :( ( I don't mean :( to the holiday...........Canada :) !!! I mean :( for missing your Northern Meet )
