UK chaos...will it ever end?

Back in April we booked a trip to WDW for September 2021 as we were hopeful that it would be safe to travel then. Anyway our trip is looking more and more unlikely, even in light of the new vaccine. Dis boards and DIS unplugged has kept us going since our first lockdown in March and for that we are grateful. And now the country is in full lockdown again we will need you more than ever!

Just wondering what the current covid situation is in Orlando? I think you have been a bit behind the UK in spikes so please be careful out there. Our local area is up to 550 per 100,000 so its pretty scary here for those of us who are overweight with blood glucose issues.

We have been busy planning what new would like to do when we are next at WDW. Do you think that's foolish? Or is it best to give ourselves something to look forward to? If we have to cancel we will lose almost £4k in flight costs as the company wont transfer us. I know there is a while to go til September and I know the vaccine is here (although we are unlikely to receive it by September as we are in our 50s) . Plus I know that missing a holiday is no big deal in the grand scheme of things. But this will be the first time we have been able to visit WDW as a family of 4 since our kids were 4 &12...they are now 20 & 28!

Hope you don't mind but I just wanted to chat with you guys. I am sure many of you are in the same position as us. Stay safe x

I think it's too soon for you to cancel - September is a long way off. As for wondering what the COVID situation is in Orlando:

The U.S. and Florida in general outpaces the UK and most of the rest of the world in caseload. Do you follow the data on https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus ?

For example, Florida (and the U.S. in general) case percentages are about the same - currently 64,000 per million. In contrast, the UK cases per million currently are about 40,000.

I find the above website gives a solid perspective. I am in Ontario, Canada and we are in full lockdown. Canada ranks 53rd in the world for deaths/million. Versus the U.S. and U.K who rank 13th and 10th. Many of our provinces are in full lock down - and in the U.S. they have an open Disney World, lol.

So, I would say - just because Disney World is open does not mean the COVID situation is any better in the U.S.A than it is where you are. They are not behind the UK in spikes - they've been leading the world in spikes almost this entire time...

We're also booked for September - was originally booked for September 2020 but had to change our dates.
At this moment in time I'm more optimistic. Vulnerable and over 50's are apparently scheduled to be vaccinated by Spring according to the latest government plans that I'd seen (although as always this will probably slip back). I can't see how such restrictions can still be in place by September if all vulnerable groups are vaccinated by then. If travel is open by September we will be going, but as always it's down to yourself to determine if it'll be the right time for you. Right now we're way too early to know what the situation will be like in September, so I'd just get planning and have something to look forward to :)

Thanks for the link, we will keep an eye on that. We definitely had our first spike well ahead of Florida. We are now onto our 3rd in our area and its way worse than the first unfortunately. Our death rate is scary too. Canada and Germany's health care must be so much better than ours.

WDW appear to be handling social distancing and mask wearing pretty well. Sadly, there have been too many Brits who have continued to socialise without taking precautions. Lets hope that the vaccine provides a glimmer of hope.

We have family in the UK. From what I've heard, our health care system isn't much better in Canada, we're just being a lot more restrictive. Ie: at Christmas, we were advised not to do any gatherings whatsoever. In the UK, sounds like 2 or 3 households were allowed to intermingle. I've also noticed that the masking rules do not seem to be as strict in the UK.

Who knows what all of the reasons are - either way you are in our thoughts and prayers and hope this is all over SOON!
