Hi all

I don't know if this thread has been done before but I can't find it!!! I having my Disney wedding next May and I've booked to fly with thomsonfly. I'm just worried about how to transport my dress over to florida? :confused3

I want to keep it with me all the time so I don't want it to go in the hold (I'm petrified of it going missing). Its quite a big dress and I'm just wondering what other brides have done.

Thanks in advance

i'm going to pack it in my hand luggage. empty box company do boxes but it will depend on your dress.

I'm flying with virgin and when I flew over in feb I asked them and security and they both said I could take it in the dress bag but lots of others have had mixed reponses

Ok so does it have to fit the normal hand luggage size? I've rung up so many people, travel agents, airline, check in desk, but they all tell me different answers!!!! GRRR

again i have had different answers as well, I am going to fit it in hand luggage size so I know I can def take on board as there is no way I'm checking it in.

You should be fine though as you are going on a charter airline and they are less likely to lose luggage

I think I'll make sure mine fits in to hand luggage size, then I guess there is no way they can take it off me really!!!

Isn't it annoying when you can't get a straight answer about things. Are you having your dress steamed when you arrive?

no i'm just going to hany it, mine is mostly lace and tulle and they have said it wont crease. I have had the train folded for months now and not one crease on it

I'm also flighting virgin. I've been told by them its ok in the dress ba but the airport say its got to be luggage size. I've looked at the dress boxes and there really expensive plus i don't think my dress will fit in one as its quite big and heavy. I intend to loosely roll in or gently fold it into a duffle bag thats hand luggage size. The duffel bag as a bit of give so wont crease it as much. Also i'll only do it at the airport just before i go and as soon as i get to the other side i will take it out.

I'm not going to steam mine either, as i've had mine hung up with the train hooked up for about 18 months now without any creases. I'll hang it in the bathroom to steam for a day or two if its really creased i can always then look at getting it steamed.:thumbsup2

Im flying Virgin, my mum is also so she is going to take my dress (she is going a few days before me) when it is folded in half it is just a normal suit carrier size so fingers crossed it will be fine. (think it is more the BAA that are strict when going through security rather than virgin)

FYI if you didnt know Virgin have a couple of wardrobes scattered about the aircraft, the space in them is prioritised to upper class pax but with only 12 seats in upper (on a LGW route) there is normally room left over, if you sweet talk one of the crew they may hang it for you so it doesnt have to be crushed in the over head locker.

We're flying BA to get the larger baggage size and the weight allowance. They allow upto 21kgs for hand luggage so I have no concerns taking my dress on. I'm getting one of the Empty Box Company travel boxes and will store it in there after too.

Incidentally, I called Virgin to see if I could take the dress on folded (after I had got it through BAA security in a holdall of the right size) and they said no, it had to stay in the bag that was cabin sized as they had nowhere to put the dress or to hang it. I would have been way overweight with the weight of the box and dress too.

BA said the same thing, but said they would check if there was room to hang i in the cabin anywhere but couldn't guarantee it.

It really does depend who you speak to on what day doesn't it?!

virgin atlantic call centre do say you cant take it on in the dress bag (I should know used to work for them ) but when I checked in for our planning session they were fine with it and said as long as security say ok, (this was with the one bag rule before it recently changed to allow one bag and say a handbag) security said its up to the airline so I said I had just spoke with them and they said it was up to you guys. They they said we see so manyh dress bags come through here it would be fine.

I'm going to take mine in the dress bag but have a bag big enough just in case.

I belive when virgin changed their fit outs of the upper class cabin some of the wardrobes were taken out so on some planes there is no where to sotre it.
