A question to UK brides really

How did you pay your deposit?

Thanks

Oh I was told that I couldnt do it by a credit card, and my bank wants about 30 for a foreign draft!

Mush- did you post it to disney? if so who did you use??

I paid my deposit and I've also paid a lump sum (while the exchange rate is so good!) by credit card. Jennifer O'Leary was my planner at the time and emailed me a credit card authorisation form, which I completed, scanned and emailed back to her. I used the Nationwide credit card as they don't charge a foreign exchange fee which saves around 2.75%.

Yes I have emailed Heidi this morning to ask if we can do it that way but she initially told me that it could only be done by a bank transfer

I have opened up a dollar savings account and I will transfer my money from there but it will cost me £20. I think you can also open up a dollar current account that gives you a card you can use.

What bank did you do that with? I dont want to pay the charges as my bank is going to charge £38 to transfer from my bank and then another £18 when disney get the momeny, which I think is silly. Also a draft will be £18 and then I'll be worrying about posting it!

I don't have to pay my deposit until November. But my dollar account is with Barclays and they gave me a list of all the charges. I think there are different options.

I have just been told by heidi that they cannot accept the deposit by credit card! I dont know what to do, I do not really want to pay all the charges associated with the international transfer. I'm not working at the moment so any money we can save is better

Hi orangetiggs,

I paid mine using my bank card. I have a halifax visa electron card. There was a one of charge of £1.50. It might be worth opening an account there. It is the basic account that Halifax do.

Yes they class that as a visa card out there, I have just said to heidi that poeple get told different things and its not fair, Alot seem to have been able to pay via some sort of card but she is not allowing me too!! This is really stressing me out and I have not even signed a contract!

Sarah have you looked into a dollar account at your bank as they may have different charges if you use one of those accounts. It may be worth opening one so that you can save into it when the rate is good for when you have to pay the balance.

I don't know if being custom brides we can't pay by credit card, it might have something to do with it.

oh i didnt think of that! I'm just stressing already! Bridezilla i think!

I looked into it with my bank but the require you to have a certain amount to pay into it and we dont have that cos as soon as we have it it gets spent on something for the wedding!

Hiya

I bought mine through the Halifax, but wasnt charged because I worked for them then.

They normally charge between £7 and £25 depending on the ammount wanted

Yes my bank said 28 but then there is a charge when it lands in the other bank account so disney would get less than the $1500 required for the deposit! I'm so confused and not sure what to do

Sarah - I just got the bank account details from my Sales Manager at FTW and then went to Thomas Cook and paid it through them with a Wire transfer - that way I saved on the charges that the banks wanted to ask, after shopping around a bit I found TC to be the cheapest. At least I'm pretty sure it was TC LOL

Oh and don't panic, just explain again to your SM that you are from the UK and therefore it takes a little longer to get to them - I was getting mine to check almost hourly when I did my transfer until she told me that I wasn't to stress she wasn't going to give my date away LOL

Incidentally, FYI, before the wedding I was going to open a dollar account with Barclays but the charges worked out so high, I ended up opening an account in the US. I do know some of the other UK brides opened up US bank accounts with Sun Trust across the street from The Marketplace - if they knew they were going a time before their actual wedding, it's worked out quite well with the dollar rate for us at the moment :)

I called sun trust to ask about it, we were thinking of doing that but we are not going till feb now so not sure if its worth it

I had no idea that Nationwide didn't charge a foreign exchange fee!
