Just a heads up for all the UK brides who are thinking about getting their license by mail.

In the UK you do not have to use a NOTARY. You can get your application signed by a solicitor - they charge anywhere from £5 to £20. Dont pay any more!

UPDATE - The Post Office been found NOT to be an acceptable signatory.

This is great information. I always recommend using Brevard County's mail-away marriage license service to US brides because it is FREE and eliminates the hassle of driving to a local courthouse once you get to WDW. US brides usually don't have any trouble getting their applications notarized, but I guess notaries are not as thick on the ground in the UK.

So it's good to know that UK brides can use a solicitor or the Post Office much more easily (and cheaply) to have the same access to a mail-away license. :thumbsup2

Thanks for the info, im pleased it can just be a solicitor to sign and doesnt have to be a notary.

What does the post office service involve? Is that just a way of mailing off your signed docs with peace of mind?

We will be looking at applying for our license in a few months so any tips are much appreciated!

Thanks x

The Post Office can offer the same service as the solicitor - they watch you sign and confirm who you are from your passport. The fee doesnt involve them posting the documents back.

That is VERY helpful info - we are sorting ours out next months - you could well have just saved us some money - Thanks you x

Justa quick warning. We tried using the post office to do this and our application has been denied by the US license people. They are saying that the post office service does not count. This has left us without the time to realistically get our license sorted before we go. Work commitments make it virtually impossible to see a solicitor together in the next week and by the time we can the US service can't promise it will be here in time so it looks like a trip to get it sorted once we get there.

Really sorry to hear that, what a pain for you both! I hope you get it sorted ok

Thanks for the heads up though, we still have to sort ours x

Thanks for the heads-up. We are also struggling to get to the solicitor together and were thinking about using the Post Office.

We have spoken with the License people and I'm deffinitely going to have to go in and sort it in person once we get there, not ideal but needs must.
