UK Brides - Do we need a certificate of non impediment?

My colleague is planning a wedding in crete this september and she needs a certificate of non impediment before they can apply for the license.

She said i would need one as everyone does but I thought we just needed to show our passports to get the license when we arrive

Anyone had to get this?

I got married at Disney on 29 April. We collected our licence the Monday before the wedding just using our passports. HTH

Never heard of this being needed to marry in the us, I have for other countries though.
