Uhm....Bahamas is now requiring vaccinations for all passengers over 12..

A travel agent on my Facebook group indicated that Disney was in talks with the Bahamian Ministry all weekend trying to negotiate something. I sincerely doubt this story, and just don't understand why Disney feels their solution must be different than the other cruise lines. It just doesn't make any sense.

Another person said they called and were told "We have not yet decided if we are going to the Bahamas". Again, not sure I believe this story either...
Not buying either story. 1) A TA having knowledge of negotiations between DCL and Bahamian officials? That's on par with info coming from Disney’s bus drivers. 2) What are the Bahamas going to do? Amend their order to say every private island is included except CC?

As for the CM saying they haven't decided if they are going to the Bahamas yet? Sounds to ne like a CM tired of saying they didn't know anything and was grasping at straws to explain why DCL hadn't comminicated anything yet. Where are they going to go? There aren't really any options other than Mexico and we've covered why that's not a viable solution.

I agree. At this point, it's either require vaccines, or cancel the cruise. I just don't see any other viable option.

Regardless, I just hope we hear tomorrow. If this goes longer than that, then I'll really start to be angry. You don't want to see me when I'm angry. :badpc:

Why all the stress, if you're vaccinated?

It’s not that you’re vaccinated. It’s that everyone, 12 and older vaccinated.

We’re dealing with two government entities with conflicting guidelines. The state of Florida forbids requiring proof of vaccinations to sail. The cruise lines have found workarounds to make sailings for non-vaccinated more onerous….high fees for testing, lack of access to bars and entertainment. But if one non-vaccinated person says he’ll take the additional fees and lack of access, he must be allowed to sail.

The Bahamas forbids ships docking anywhere in the country if anyone 12 or older is not vaccinated. So if that one non-vaccinated is on-board, that ship cannot dock anywhere in the Bahamas.

Agree, “The office of executive communications” or whatever is just next level front line customer service to make people stop contacting them …

Why all the stress, if you're vaccinated?

There are some cruisers whose children will be turning 12 just before their cruise. So those children will not be permitted to get the vaccine until after their 12th birthday but then that is too close to their sail date for the vaccine to be considered fully in effect. You might think that doesn't effect that many people but on each sailing there is an entire area of the ship dedicated to tweens, and there are many sail dates. So that's a lot of families that are affected. Considering the fact that the rules go into effect in less than one month, we would think DCL would be forthcoming in their plans.
Our kids are grown and don't want to travel with us anymore but I feel for people who are between a rock and a hard place.

I'm not confident Disney is making money on a boat running at 25% capacity. If they are, congrats to them.

Maybe just motoring out to the Bahamas using very little fuel. But these suggestions that they got to Cozumel instead? LOL. No way they could make money on that cruise at 25% or probably even 50%.

So, since I lost my first bet on a Friday announcement (what was I thinking?!?!) anyone thinking will know something before noon today? Or later in the week?

There have been stories / rumors recently regarding the Pfizer vaccine obtaining formal approval on Monday, August, 23, 2021. I wonder if DCL is waiting for this before they issue a statement.

Good point. Let's see if today is the day- for both announcements

Ugh!! I really hope today…I don’t understand the delay?!? Other cruise lines issued almost immediate news of their policy changes. It seems clear that the choices are a) cancel OR b) comply. DCLs delay is making me concerned their opting for some totally crazy option C that’s only going to further complicate things and stress me out more!!

FDA is "supposed" to fully authorized the Pfizer vaccine today - that might be what they are waiting for?
