Uhm....Bahamas is now requiring vaccinations for all passengers over 12..

Between the Fantasy news, then Genie+ and this, I don't think I can handle such a glut of information after such a trickle! I can see the next headline now: "Bahamas Prime Minister mandates that all cruise lines are to serve their mouse shaped waffles in the buffet dining room for breakfast".

Yes, and each and every one of them either already required vaccines before today (Carnival, NCL) or decided today to require them (MSC, Royal).

Disney is the last one to make a decision (as ususal)
And in light of today's developments, they maybe decided too soon.

You mean with the changes to the Fantasy? I see that, but they had to make a decision at some point. I was getting too close. The other way to look at it is the Bahamas could have made their decision earlier and saved Disney the headache. Tomato, Tomatoe

Well, the virus is still a moving target so it was a tough decision for the Bahamas too. They depend on the cruise income, but my guess is, they concluded the risk was not worth the reward. As the covid cliche puts it..... "a virus is controlling everything".

As I’m sure many of you are, I’m very curious what Disney’s response will be. More cancellations? Or simply, 12+ require vaccinations.

What good will cancelations do? They have 2 weeks to make adjustments at Port Canaveral if needed.

If they cancel then they will be cancelling likely in to 2022. Also with Disney being the only cruiseline not to get on board there is a chance this could always become permenant. It's not like Delta then Echo are going away.

I doubt it will happen, but it would be nice if this new requirement makes Disney require the same and reset the 7-night cruises back to 7-nights. We'd still have to skip Grand Cayman until next year but at least we'd have the other ports again.

I fully expect them to make adjustments, and require 12+ to be vaccinated. I’m just saying, it’ll be really interesting to see their response.

Same, it's just the easiest thing to do in order to get to visit more islands. We may still be wrong... we'll have to wait for an announcement.

I do feel for anyone who has kids in the 11-12 range and/or have not chosen to vaccinate yet as it isn't (wasn't?) required. I don't think they will switch the September Fantasy cruises back again but seems like this may pave the way for slightly more "normal" cruises on the Fantasy in October and beyond if they choose to require vaccination.

Regardless of whether you feel it makes sense or not, they have the right to govern their country as they see fit and they have passed this. Why do these conversations always veer to opinions about what is right/wrong/smart/dumb/etc.

Because this is a message board and thats kind of what it was made for? TheDis has multiple youtube shows/podcats that do the very same thing. When policies or mandates are instilled that affect WDW, DL, DCL, UO, etc guests and they don't make sense but have a HUGE impact on families, this is the exact place to discuss them.

How does this not make sense? The government of the Bahamas has every right to do what they feel needs to be done to best protect their citizens. They existed long before cruise lines and they have the right to make their own laws. I’m sorry - and yes, I do have someone in my life whose life would be affected badly (as in worse than just a cancelled vacation) if another shutdown happens - but the government doing what they can to protect the lives of the Bahamians ABSOLUTELY makes sense.

Got up this morning to see Royal made a decision last night effective sept. 1, now how long do we have to wait to see what Disney does?
I don’t know but there is a large number of guests that were booked on the 9/4 Fantasy when we woke up on Monday, shifted to the 9/6 4N Dream by Tuesday, and dealing with this on Wednesday.
we’re thirteen days out from when we fly to MCO for (WDWstays plus a shortened cruise currently but really who knows) whatever this vacation ends up looking like at this point.

yes, we are on the August 30th 4-night Dream and it’s been a roller coaster ride. Everyday it’s something. This week we got our cabin assignments, got our PAT lowered to 11am, then wdw announced the new PAID fastpass system, and then we’ve got this newest change. We are a fully vaxed family (12 to 71), but no grandkids this cruise. Safe passage cleared, still waiting for photo uploads to be approved. i can’t put my iPad down long enough to even think of packing and I leave in 8 days. The drama, the suspense, watching how this story unfolds…..

Updated version >>> *when IN BAHAMAS or IN ???? do as they REQUIRE or stay away!!*

others will follow.

Just finished reading this whole thread. Bahamas to DCL- shots fired. Right across the bow. I just don't know what to think anymore. Seriously, about anything. We, are not in control of something, that is not controllable. We can only do the best we can, by what ever measures we feel may work. But in the end, the virus will be the deciding factor. I feel bad for the chaos. Thinking of just cancelling my cruises- including next June. It feels like, today, nothing will be resolved, even by then. Hang on, it is going to be a bumpy ride. Especially if you are due to cruise in the coming weeks.

My money is by end of day Disney announces due to Bahamian government that they are requiring all eligible passengers to be vaccinated and that if you choose to not get vaccinated and provide that documentation to contact them to make arrangements….same as Royal.
