Uh-oh! Wegoshop full on our dates!

I should have added that we are a group of 6 people, so renting a small car would be totally useless for us. We'd have to rent something larger, and that wouldn't be $30. It would feel a bit of a waste of time and energy to rent something strictly for the purpose of grocery shopping but I can see how for smaller groups that would be a really good option.

Thanks again. Got my order placed with Goodings. :)

Lewis, over the past few months I've usually agreed with and always respected your very well-informed opinions, BUT ...wait a minute here ... are you saying that Gooding's is SO expensive that it would be cheaper to rent a car and go to a cheaper supermarket??? :badpc: How much is car rental for a day? Let me just guess it's $30 (I have no idea). Gooding's charges a $10 flat rate delivery fee, with a $50 minimum order. Are you saying that groceries someone would have in a hotel for a week would be more than $20 more at Gooding's than someplace else ($20 more plus the $10 fee equals the guess at a $30 cost for a car)? $20??? I don't think so. OK, let's say purely for argument's sake that the same grocery order will cost $40 more at Gooding's than at say Publix. Subtract the $30 estimate for cost of car rental and you save $10. I think if the only reason someone gets a car is to save that $10 and won't use the car for other uses, that person's TIME on a WDW vacation spent getting the car, shopping, and returning the car is worth more than the $10 saved.

To reiterate what someone else said (perhaps citing my post on the DVC board), you are not limited to the items listed on the Gooding's website. You can e-mail and/or call ANY AND ALL special requests. as long as they stock the item on the shelf, they will sell it to you. Roughly half the items I ordered were "special requests," such as a specific brand and flavor of yogurt that my 2.5 year old loved, etc.

Actually, the UG lists the price differences between the Goodings and the other stores. It appears that if you need $100 worth of groceries, it may indeed be cheaper to rent a car. Gooding is VERY expensive. UG bought a list of ordanary stuff. $56.05 at Publix, and $77.49 at Goodings for the same items. That is shopping in the store, and DOES NOT COUNT DELIVERY. That means delivered, Goodings is $87.49.

If you want a car for anything else, or a larger grocery order, then the rental easily wins. If you want the convenience of delivery, Goodings may be the way to go.

I agree about the prices. I felt like I was grocery shopping at 7-11. But we just skipped really outrageous items and decided to take a few dry goods in our luggage like a jar of peanut butter so we don't have to pay $5.59 for a jar of it with Goodings. Can live without grapes. Can't live without bacon so had to give up $5.59 for it. Yikes.

Anyway, crisis averted. I think we decided we'd pay a $50 delivery fee rather than rent a car because I just don't want to visit the "outside" world on this trip. And we save a good deal of time this way too.

Again, thanks for the help!

I am glad it worked out for you! I am with you, I can't be bothered with a rental car when I could be relaxing with my family. Have a great trip!

Just wanted to warn everyone that on the DVC Board, someone reported that they received a call telling them that the wegoshop.com franchise in Orlando is being taken over by new owners. As a result, they will not be delivering for a few days this week.

I would double check what's going on before ordering with them.

We had WeGoShop a couple of weeks ago and did not have the feeling that they were changing owners. I was thrilled with their efficiency. They shopped at Publix and did deliver beer and wine.

UGH I shouldn't have read this thread. I've been trying to decide which service to use. Then I read this thread and one on the DVC board. I don't want to use Wego shop or Goodings! I thought I would try gardengrocer but you have to have a $100 minimum. Now I don't know what to do :confused3

Hi

We have an order in for Wegoshop for Dec 4th to deliver at VWL...hearing some negative banter going on on the boards in the last 24 hours....are there any good recent stories on Wegoshop or has it gone to he11 in a handbasket?

Trying to determine whether we should cancel or not!

I can see on the website with the 'new ownership' that prices for shop and delivery have gone up!

Thanks
Inga

Hmm... the website still has the same ownership so maybe only the prices are going up.

I am a little curious. I wonder if the "current' ownership just doesn't want to work Thanksgiving??? Also, did you notice they no longer take Credit cards.

That was my theory. As I mentioned, they said that all of their delivery slots were full that weekend and that they were avail on the 28th. They said nothing about ownership, etc. Very strange.

To the pp who was concerned about who to go with, I'd say go with Goodings. Pricey, but reliable and established. Having groceries just show up for you is worth the extra expense. Just avoid things like grapes. And bacon. :)

My problem is I want BEER!!! LOL!

LOL, us too. That was the real perk of Wego. We're going to have to shell out the $$$ for beer from the resort. I hope they have some decent beers. I'm guessing about $12 for a 6 pack?

Update. There is a whole thread over on the DVC Planning board on this company.

It makes for very intersting reading... The owner Eric, contacted several folks with Thanksgiving weekend reservations and told them the company was being sold and the new owers would not be delivering over Thanksgiving. He then took a call from a customer for a delivery in December that he would be doing... VERY Curious. I don't think they were "full" when the OP in this thread called, they just want the weekend off! This sold story is not holding up.

Combined with several posts of "family emergencies" causing delivery issues the reliablitiy of this company has to be questioned....

VERY interesting!

I'm a little nervous that Gooding's is about to be overloaded. I haven't heard from them aside from a confirm. email. I emailed them to ask about delivery times and payment methods, as well as a few added items.

Sending out pixie dust to all with grocery issues!

Just heard from Goodings. They were very professional, very organized, and had my order already filed together including my additional items. I gave them a credit card number. I will be given an actual receipt from the store for my items. I was able to add another item today to my order VERY easily.

Even better, the groceries will be delivered to bell services. We don't have to be there. If they arrive when we do, bell services will be bringing them to us.

Very easy, and despite paying about $120 for my groceries, valuable time saved and I'm not worried about my groceries not arriving.

I just can't believe this is THIS weekend!!!!!!!!!!!

Shel

Did you see the apology at the top of this board? Now the sale is January 1st????

Shel

and people doubted me when I said the delivery fees and food markups might cost as much as a rental car. ;)

I understand you don't want to bother renting a car but others reading this thread might want to consider renting a car as an option that might not cost as much extra as they'd think.
