Any suggestions? Any other good grocery delivery services? I waited WAY too long to contact Wegoshop and now I won't have delivery on the days we need it. We absolutely can't wait until the first day they have available for us. :(

Are there any other services we could try?

Thanks

SHel

You could always ship a box of non-perishables to yourself, and pick up milk at your resort.

Unfortunately, we have a number of perishable items on our list, so we'll need to get a full grocery order filled.

Any other ideas?

Thanks

Shel

The grocery store Goodings offers a delivery service. If you do a search, I am sure you will easily find a link to their website

Maybe rent a car for one day. Just get a sub-compact, one person can make the grocery run while the other stays with teh kids.

Sorry about your situation. :( I've heard good things about Goodings grocery store, although I think the prices may be a little higher.

By the way, how far in advance did you call?

Less than a week. I made the list WEEKS ago and just kept forgetting to submit it.

I'm checking out Goodings right now.

Does anyone know if they sell any sort of hard cheese at the WL mercantile? As in Cheddar or Monterrey Jack? I don't see any on the Gooding's site.

:( I'm so peeved with myself.

This has been a hot topic on the DVC planning forum lately because of some recent problems with wegoshop. People said that more is available from Goodings than is on their list, you just have to ask. Another one mentioned was gardengrocer.com. I looked at their site and it is a very comprehensive store. Have a good trip.

Renting a car might be cheapest way to go. Goodings is expensive and charges a delivery fee. I'd be shocked if Goodings doesn't offer Cheddar and Monterrey Jack cheese. Call them up. They don't list everything on their website but it is a full, but expensive, supermarket. You might not like the cost of the cheese but I'm sure they have them. It was posted that Goodings will deliver to bell services who will store your food in a refrigerator and freezer as needed.

Which gets better reviews? I found a spot on the Goodings site to order additional items, but the gardengrocer site seems to be more extensive and WAY cheaper. Is it reliable?

Thanks so much for the help. We're days away from our trip, and I just can't wait.

I thought about renting a car, but I think the inconvenience of having to return it and the cost of it kind of balances out with the cost of Goodings.

Thanks so much!

Lewis, over the past few months I've usually agreed with and always respected your very well-informed opinions, BUT ...wait a minute here ... are you saying that Gooding's is SO expensive that it would be cheaper to rent a car and go to a cheaper supermarket??? :badpc: How much is car rental for a day? Let me just guess it's $30 (I have no idea). Gooding's charges a $10 flat rate delivery fee, with a $50 minimum order. Are you saying that groceries someone would have in a hotel for a week would be more than $20 more at Gooding's than someplace else ($20 more plus the $10 fee equals the guess at a $30 cost for a car)? $20??? I don't think so. OK, let's say purely for argument's sake that the same grocery order will cost $40 more at Gooding's than at say Publix. Subtract the $30 estimate for cost of car rental and you save $10. I think if the only reason someone gets a car is to save that $10 and won't use the car for other uses, that person's TIME on a WDW vacation spent getting the car, shopping, and returning the car is worth more than the $10 saved.

To reiterate what someone else said (perhaps citing my post on the DVC board), you are not limited to the items listed on the Gooding's website. You can e-mail and/or call ANY AND ALL special requests. as long as they stock the item on the shelf, they will sell it to you. Roughly half the items I ordered were "special requests," such as a specific brand and flavor of yogurt that my 2.5 year old loved, etc.

Thanks. I totally agree. I can't imagine the look on my dh's face if I told him he had to skip out on a morning and afternoon of park touring to go pick up the rental, take it to the grocery store, shop, return the groceries, return the car, and then return to the park or resort.

I really like the ease of the gardengrocer site but I've heard so little about them. Goodings seems well-established, so I think I'll go with them. Unless some rave gardengrocer reviews pour in. :)

I have no idea how extensive an order OP is planning on making. Yes, I think the difference may be enough to pay for a $30 car rental. "Gourmet" cheeses is an area I'd expect Goodings to be much more expensive than other stores.

Is it worth it? I agree, not unless the OP has another use for a rental car for the day. Car is a good way to go to DTD. A car would allow for a trip to the Disney outlet store. Dinner in another resort. My only point is don't exclude a car rental on the basis of price. It's probably not any more expensive than the delivery fee and store markup.

I'd probably look to price a car rental at MCO with a return at WDW. Let the luggage and the rest of the party go directly to the resort with one person getting a rental car and making a grocery stop. I'd probably use this as an excuse to rent a car for a day or two. I don't think Goodings will deliver alcholic beverages. I'd probably at least want wine and beer.

Goodings is a regular, but expensive, grocery store. Like wegoshop if you tell them what you want I'm sure they can get it.

Holy carp, $4.49 a pound for GRAPES????????? They're .97 here right now!

I'm going to look into taking a cab or gardengrocer. I just can't pay that much for grapes on principle. ;)

You can't appreciate the pricing at Goodings unless you've shopped there. CleveRocks is correct. For a $50 order you might be able to live with it. The pricing is more like a small conveniance store or a gourmet food store than your typical supermarket.

I'd just use this an excuse to rent a car for the day. Shop where and when you want. This will give you a chance to go out at night at pick up what you may have forgot. Otherwise just pack your staples and pay for your perishables in the resort.

Lewis, I think this is the best idea yet. Goodings will not deliver alcohol and I noticed that the OP was asking about the avilability of beer at WDW resorts to bring back to her room. She would save a bunch of $$ just buying a couple of six-packs at Publix instead of the resort store! She could also get the cheapest, littlest car available for her one-way trip. If she rents from National, she can drop off at the Dolphin (and walk through Epcot to the resort buses) or the Car Care Center (and they will return her to her resort). I think there is a Dollar return at one of the DTD resorts.

Or ... she could take a taxi. It's about 4 miles from POP to the nearest Publix in Xentury City (off 192, near Celebration). A taxi would be about $10 (plus tip) each way. There is also a Walgreens across the street from the Publix where I buy medicines and (used to buy) diapers and wipes.

:) I just decided to skip the grapes.

We're going to go with Goodings because I just totaled our order and it wasn't so terribly bad. I'd say there were about three items priced at 40% more than what we pay here, and more items were about 20% more than we pay here, with the exception of the ding dang grapes.

Out of curiosity what types of items can we find at the resort? We're at VWL for this portion of our stay. Does the mercantile have things like tostitos chips and cheddar cheese or are we just talking milk, beer, and bread?

Thanks

Shel
