Hi all!

We are headed to Orlando on Sunday. The storm is expected to hit Mondayish. I don't know what to do! We actually aren't doing Disney this time - we're supposed to do Legoland on Monday and Universal on Tuesday-Thursday. I do have trip insurance, and I can cancel my trip, but I don't want to as it's the best time for the kids. If there is heavy rain and 45 mph winds (as is currently predicted) will anything at Legoland or Universal even be open?

Arrrgggghhhhhh.....what would you guys do?

Read the other 9 or 10 threads with 'erika', 'tropical storm', rain/rainy' or 'hurricane' in the title. You will read other opinions on how the storm is effecting the parks, lots of tips on touring while it rains, when parks close etc.

Look forward to unique park experiences and lower crowds as locals are more likely to stay home.

It is not a hurricane - nor is it currently expected to become one, it is a tropical storm.

There's no way you can know yet exactly where it will go and what it will be like when it gets there, so if you want to cancel at this point you still do have the option if your insurance allows you to cancel and be refunded for that reason (without a tropical storm watch being even called for Florida yet). However, you should at this time expect rain and possibly some wind. As to whether parks will be open, that won't be determined until they see how severe the impact might be.

I only know about Disney, but as far as I know, the Disney parks have never completely closed for a tropical storm (just for hurricanes), although outdoor activities are probably cancelled and outdoor attractions may be closed.

Yes, it's anticipated to be a tropical storm now. I'm just torn on what to do. We were expecting rain (we were at WDW the last week of Sept/first week of October before and it poured...for an hour every day) but now I fear it will be constant rain and rides closed.

If there is constant rain, outdoor attractions will possibly close. I know Universal has lots of indoor attractions...not so sure about Legoland.

We were at Universal about 10-11 year ago when a hurricane rolled through central FL. We had a great time and still talk about running around in our blue Woody ponchos.

The weather is unpredictable, it could get worse, it could get better. If you go the vacation, it can be a total disaster, but also turn into something fun and special. If you do not go, it could be you will see the news and weather reports and be grateful to be warm and cosy in your own home, or see that the storm has changed direction and there is sunshine and blue skies in FL. Regardless of what the people here or the weather report are saying, weather is unpredictable.

Only in retrospect you can say if you made a good or bad decision. You will not know till your vacation is over.
