Ugly Christmas Sweater

I read a packing list for Holiday cruise lists and it suggests to pack an Ugly Christmas sweater. It says some cruise lines even have a contest. We did Merrytime cruises in 2011 and 2014. I do not remember any such contest or even recall if I saw people wearing them. Neither I nor my kids own one. Should I get us some for our Merrytime and Christmas DCL cruises this year? Is this a thing?

Some cruise lines do this. I don't believe DCL is one of them.
