UGH where do they find these white trash parents on Primetime?

I SAW THAT!! It was sooo DISGUSTING!!! She hated that little girl from day one. I don't care what she said.

This program broke my heart. Thank goodness they showed Kyle doing well and thriving with her grandparents, or else I wouldn't have been able to sleep last night. Our DVR messed up, though, and the last 10 minutes or so was cut off. The last thing I saw was that Kyle was hoping to move back in with her dad and Lynn. Why oh WHY??

It's just heartbreaking how much she loves them and her SIBLINGS (that little girl was the only "brat" I saw in that home...but I digress..) and wants to please her Dad and Lynn. It's almost like she thought that if she only had one more chance, she could make them love her. Poor thing.

Someone, please tell me what I missed at the end of the program. Did she move back in?

Also, I kept thinking, "What must all his fellow National Guardsmen be thinking as they watch this?"

I would like to think that he and Lynn were embarassed and ashamed by their behavior, but, nope, they sure weren't!

I didn't think that little girl was a brat. I felt so sorry for her. She didn't understand that her stepsister was her sibling. I'm sure she didn't want to be - probably thinking it would make her mother hate her too. They were screaming and yelling at her in a situation when a calm "yes, she is your sibling because you have the same Dad" would have sufficed. No wonder she was in a panic. Every message she'd ever gotten was how bad Kyle was and now they were trying to put her in the same category.

Very well said. You're so right. That little girl was, I feel, trying to please her mother; by distancing herself from Kyle, I'm sure she thought that she was showing loyalty to her mom. It's tragic that, due to Lynn and the Dad's deplorable parenting skills, this little girl feels like there is an "us against her" dynamic in the household.....even trying to lure the little brother away from Kyle playing with him, and calling her names.

I should have said she was displaying bratty behavior rather than calling her a brat. Even then, it would have been an over-simplification.

Just wanted to post that I saw a blurb about this on the news today. Apparently Primetime didn't turn over the tapes to the authorities three years ago (when the taping was done) because that was the only incident of abuse on the tape and they didn't feel she was in phsyical danger

The DA in the County they live in said the Statue of Limitations had ran out a year ago to prosecute on this case and thinks it's coincidental that they decided to air the tape after the girl was 18 and after the SOL ran out.

Kyle, her mother and her grandmother were on GMA this morning ( I didn't see it), but apparently she is doing well. The father declined to come on the show.

My DH was flipping channels last night and Bill O'reilley was talking about it --I saw the pictures and recognized it, but didn't hear any of it (on the phone) and he switched it. Did anyone catch that??? What was it about?

That is truly disgusting! What surprises me about that is that the counselers are mandated reporters. If they didn't notify authorities (and they know that emotional abuse is often worse than physical abuse), then their license to practice should be revoked.

This also doesn't preclude children's services from investigating the situation that the younger children are now in. I'm truly appalled.

I don't watch Bill O'Reilly, but I was watching some other show on MSNBC late last night and they were saying it's freedom of the press and they shouldn't be obligated to report such instances

I think what constitutes freedom of the press is appalling. That family should not only have been reported but a thorough investigation should have been done 3 years ago. I hope child welfare services are investigating the home situation now to see if the other children are not being abused.

I didn't see this particular report, but perhaps what they were saying is that the press is not considered a mandatory reporter. Actually, there are only a few truly mandatory reporters . . . teachers, health care workers (doctors, nurses, EMT), day care providers, etc. If you are not a mandatory reporter, you are not required by law to report abuse . . . but you are certainly permitted to report. It's up to you (and your conscience) to decide.

More sadly, though, is that in my over 20 years in pediatrics, I see just this type of scenario more often than not. In an ideal world, every child would be important, valued, loved by the adults in their life. However, so many parents seem to move on to new spouses, new children, new lives, and forget the ones they already have . . .

I have to say I was extremely uncomfortable and disturbed watching that special the other night. Not just because of the horrific actions and the blatant abuse Kyle suffered, but also because it was too similar to my own experiences growing up (although with my biological parents and not a step-parent) and it gave me flashbacks.
