So DH, DS and I were driving through town to put up a couple flyers at the grocery store and library and then go out to eat. It was raining really hard, and I was slowing down for a line of cars that were stopped at a traffic light when all of a sudden BOOM! we get struck from behind.

It is such a shock to go through that and the sound is awful. The worst is that I was upset that maybe my 9 month old was hurt-- he was crying loudly. After a minute or so he calmed down and was acting normal... he was just shaken up from the loud crunch.

Turns out the guy was sliding on the slick road and pumping his brakes but couldn't stop in time. Amazingly, it sounded worse than it was, since the only damage was the bottom edge of our license plate was bent in a little.

If DS wasn't with us we would've just exchanged information and left, but since his car seat was there, we called the cops to get a police report in case we needed it for the insurance. I was aware that car seats can be replaced if involved in an accident. This was very mild and I was hoping the carseat would be alright, but the cop said they recommend getting them replaced for all accidents over 5 mph. UGH! We just bought this carseat not 2 weeks ago, and it wasn't cheap and the store was far away. I hope the insurance will cover the entire cost and not just a portion. I know it's better to be safe than sorry but it's such a shame to get rid of what could be a perfectly good seat. If only we hung on the old one a little longer, we wouldn't have needed to do this!

All in all I'm so glad no one was hurt, it just was not a fun way to spend the evening. Oh, we did end up going out to eat, so that was a good thing!

Ugh- accidents suck. I'm glad everyone is OK though!! :goodvibes:

Oh My, how scarry. I'm so glad no one was hurt, especially your baby. You might be a little sore tomorrow, take care.

Hopefully your insurance will pay for a new car seat. I would replace it, that's one place you don't want to take a chance. The important thing is you are both alright. so scary.

Call the carseat manufacturer. I have heard of them sending you a new one. They usually want the old one in exchange so they can examine it. I don't know if this is common or not, but it's worth a shot!
