Ugh, Texas!!!

Welcome to the great state of Texas! I'm sorry about your visit during the wettest summer here on record! But, thanks for bringing the rain with you, we love it!:thumbsup2

ETA: As for the hospitality issue, the metro areas like DFW, San Antonio/Austin, and Houston are just like anywhere else. In general, the less populated areas are friendlier, save the occasional rude person who won't wave to you on the neighborhood streets. The nerve!

We live closer to Houston, but I love Dallas too.

Yep, the weather is wild this year. My yard usually isn't a swamp.

We ended up in WDW for Jersey week last year. Most of the people we met from New Jersey were lovely. The only thing I noticed was the "potty mouth", you generally don't hear that at family places in Texas. I was a little shocked by the swear words used in friendly conversation with strangers in the lines. I think what passes for rude is different in different parts of the country.

Doesn't Austin have quite a bit to do with the Aquifer usage as well?

I know that the Edwards Aquifer is at a good level right now, but you must admit that San Antonio has water restrictions 8 summers out of 10, and it is getting worse as more people move there. Once a 'water expert' stated that the Edwards Aquifer would easily support 500,000 residents; pity, he said, that San Antonio is now 1 million strong.

Just for knowledges sake I thought I'd include a link to the Aquifer's site

It is actually (to me) a pretty fascinating water source for south central Texas. Considering also that we are a state that gets a bad rap for environmental issues it is a wonder we've managed to regulate the recharge zone and still have a water source that is drinkable w/out a huge treatment process.

I know Austin, at least part of it, is in the recharge zone, do they get any of their supply from the aquifer?

If you simply feel that you must visit Texas, then I would recommend going to San Diego in California.
Funny thing - that is where our kids think we are going:lmao: We are taking them to Schlitterbahn as a surprise they think they are spending a week on a San Diego beach!

:flower3: :wave2: Bud..

Sorry things are that way, maybe they will quickly turn around...
Miss ya on the boards, and miss ya to :drinking1 with :teeth:

Safe travels to you...

Going to get on my float, and have a nice Corona (with lime ;) )

Only the best achievement in roadway design ever! No waiting at stoplights to make a left turn!

Thanks for the info:thumbsup2 I have never seen one of these - now I won't look like a total tourist when I am in SAT - thanks!

What is the extended forecast looking like? I heard a week or more ago that this storm system had parked itself over your great state and would be there awhile. Any news on when it might pack it's bags and head out?

....who immediately thought of Sandy Cheeks on "Spongebob"?? :lmao:
Maybe I watch too much t.v., but that episode came to mind where Sandy wants to go home to Texas and Spongebob & Patrick are trying to convince her to stay.

Patrick: "Who cares about stuuuuupid 'ol Texas, anyway?"

Sandy: "DON'T ANYONE NEVER, EVER SAY NOTHIN' BAD ABOUT TEXAS!!!"

:rotfl2: I love that one!

Gotta Get To Disney! :moped:

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:
I LOOOOOOOVE that one:rotfl2:

you should have come to Houston:rolleyes1 it's been raining but the lights have stayed on and we have tons of resturants, bars and clubs you would have loved:thumbsup2

Rain through Mon at least. The % chance goes down for tuesday - thurs and then jumps back up friday. I really wish it would go already. It hasn't let up here in hours. We haven't lost power though.

I do think I might enjoy Dallas, if I wasn't staying near the airport and the weather/conditions weren't terrible.

Just looking for a place to vent. ;)

I was there last year for a convention and wasn't overly thrilled myself. However, I looooove San Antonio! Great place to visit.

Thanks for understanding. :) I feel like I sound like a baby in my OP. ;)

Not at all, dear. It was more of a namby-pamby sissie pants vibe that came across!!!!!:lmao: ;) Oh you know I'm just messing with you! You're just peeved that you can't find a Cheesecake Factory nearby!:rotfl:

Now I've said 2x that I was kidding!

Third times a charm!:thumbsup2

:rotfl2:

;)

We were up in SA last week-talk about rain. We figured it'd be safe (weather wise) to take our bikes and ride-it being June and all. Every other June we've been there it's been dry. Geez there were gully washers every day!!

Don't care what anybody says I haven't found a place in Texas that I haven't liked!! I love it all. I find something fascinating almost everyday. My biggest beef right now is that I keep mistaking the misquitoes for hummingbirds!! With all the rain the little buggers are just huge!

I love the turnarounds too. But we first moved here it freaked me out to have oncoming traffic passing to my right as I turned around!!:rotfl2:

Has San Antonio changed a lot in recent years? We were there in July '04, & absolutely loved it. There was a tropical storm that blew through, but that didn't negatively affect our trip in the least. Then again, we're Floridians. ;) FWIW, we were in San Diego in the spring on '06. While we had a good time, we preferred SA.

While I wouldn't trade living near the coast of this great country (which some of you refer to as the State of Texas :thumbsup2 ) I try and get to San Antonio at least once a year. SA just has a certain charm that not many places have, and the people are all super friendly. The history is wonderful, and there is a ton of stuff to do. :)

Wow it must be raining a lot more in Dallas than it is here .... we are in NE Texas aka the middle of nowhere. We planted a garden late this spring though and have had to water it all of 2 x ... very out of the ordinary for Texas.

this is a lot of rain. but, except for those effected by the flooding, we in Texas give thanks for any and all rain that comes by.

Plus-------You are in DALLAS! What do you expect....You picked about the worst place in texas to experience what the real Texas is......instead, you get a city and the people who think they should be in the midwest and NYC. Of course, we keep trying to get them to leave, but they can't seem to figure that out.

Get out of Dallas, come on down to Houston, a much nicer and friendlier place!

Dallas isn't that bad. I grew up there and you just have to know where to go. I prefer it any day over Houston. I know that there is some that disagree with me but that's the way it is. To each his own....I now live on the east side of Lake Ray Hubbard in Rockwall. We love it here!

I just looked down the street and there are all these animals marching two by two. And there's this really old man with a beard and this really big boat....
I wonder what's going on.:confused3

Poor Timmy. But you should know, Texas isn't really "The South"...

I left my 32 gallon trash can out yesterday (don't tell my HOA!) and when I left today at 215 I was around 80% full of water. I had to tip it to dump it. I couldn't even drag it to the side of the house.
