Well, the view is lovely this am, anyway! Jean, the medical situation is exactly why this bugs me. My DH had a liver transplant 3 years ago and is in kidney failure now. We hate to rent a scooter here because of the bus hassle but will probably have to go back to it. If he has to go on dialysis, well, you just never know which trip will be your last. I can't see dialysis and Disney mixing well, although if the DVC owners keep getting older... I don't understand why we get these rooms so often, but suspect it's because we don't stay a full week and these are what's left when you come in on a Thursday. I won't do Boardwalk view again; at least there are normally more preferred views to choose from. Hope your DH is doing ok.
I was curious about this comment so I surfed over to "Map My Run" and mapped the walk from Jellyrolls through the Boardwalk to the bus stop. It was .21 miles. I then mapped the walk from the North wing of AKV Jambo starting with the Grand Villa and got .25 miles to the start of the long bus stop and another 5/10th to the end of the bus stop. Then, out of complete curiosity I attempted to map the longest trek I had at a regular Disney resort from building 34 at POR to the food court. It was .31. I knew I hated that walk!We also own at AKV and its bus system in comparison to BWV is like you have died and gone to heaven. However, if you feel the walk is long at BWV, you should avoid AKV where the walk at Kidani from lobby to end rooms on the north wing is about four times longer than the walk from BWV lobbby elevator to the last room furthest away from the elevator.
Yes, you can. I got hurt on Disney property during our last trip and twisted my ankle/hurt my knee and was temporarily not able to walk at all. When we got back to the Beach Club, my DH went to the valet and a nice young man came with a wheel chair for me. We went to the concierge desk and they took our info. The wheel chair was free while we stayed there and we were to return it before we left. The next day, I could walk with a cane so we only used it the one day....do you think you could borrow a manual wheelchair from the front desk?
Our one trip where we stayed in a BWV 1 bedroom, we had the room right by Jellyrolls, but on the top floor. We loved the room, and since we are a family with older kids, it worked out nicely for us. Wish that Disney would take into account physical limitations when assigning room. We don't mind getting the rooms with longer walks, but in 30 years, we may feel differently!
We have reserved a 1 BR standard view room at BWV for our trip in September.
Where are those rooms located? Is there much of a choice of exactly where I could put a request in that would be closer to the lobby or at least closer to the Epcot side?
We rented on cash at BVW last year. We had a studio standard view and were on an upper floor overlooking the main pool. It was a very nice location and would love something similar to that for our stay this year but given that it's a 1 bedroom and on points, I'm a little scared of what I am going to get.
I truly believe they give the renters the better rooms. I think if you own at a resort, you should have first choice of rooms, etc. If you own at SSR and are staying in OKW, the OKW people should come first. At one time, you had to stay at your home resort every other stay. I wish they would go back to that!
When I did a crude "finger measurement" on google maps, it looked like Jambo and BWV were both about 600' from farthest room to lobby. Kidani looked like 800'.I was curious about this comment so I surfed over to "Map My Run" and mapped the walk from Jellyrolls through the Boardwalk to the bus stop. It was .21 miles. There really isn't a big difference between .21 and .25 when you're using your finger to measureWhen I did a crude "finger measurement" on google maps, it looked like Jambo and BWV were both about 600' from farthest room to lobby. Kidani looked like 800'.
Does anybody know how long a walk it is to that room? Are we talking a mile? I have no clue.
I can't imagine it's longer than getting stuck in the far end at AKL Jambo House.
As soon as I get home, I'm calling MS about our Dec. trip. We're in a 1BR standard then. I think most of the standard walks are shorter anyway. I'm done with the Boardwalk view--I think we've stayed on the BW 3 times and been in the Crest of the Wave building every time. The rooms close to Jellyrolls are the worst, because they're not near anything--it's a hike to the pool, to the bus and to the boat. At least if you're at the other end, you're halfway to Hollywood studios lol. In retrospect, we should have called for a scooter from one of the offsite places the first day. I need one too after this trip!
Just curious...those who have had the infamous far down rooms...did you check in online? If so were any of your requests met?
What time did you arrive at BWV?...just wondering if requests are met if checking in online and arriving early?
