Ugh! Just got caught being the Tooth Fairy!!!

My youngest totally just bagged me while trying to take the tooth. As I had it in hand, she whips her head around and asked me, 'what are you doing with my tooth?" I told her I was giving the tooth a kiss before the Tooth Fairy took it. (I wasn't home when she put it under her pillow). I don't know if she bought it, but now I'm too afraid to try again tonight. She's only 7, so I hope I didn't blow it. If it had been my older one (10) I would have come clean.

Now what? Any night owls up to give me some help here...

Keep playing it off. She'll probably buy it. Tell her you weren't home when she went to bed so you were just checking to make sure everything was ready for the tooth fairy's arrival.

My oldest son is a very light sleeper. He always sleep alot but in complete silence and darkness. For that reason, our tooth fairy doesn't take teeth...just leaves money. I never would have been able to get the tooth without waking him up!

Just stick with it. My dd8 still tells how she caught mommy hiding eggs on Easter 2 years ago. She thinks it's hysterically funny. I scrambled when I got caught and said the Easter bunny forgot to hide the ones we decorated (the bunny hides plastic and real eggs here). She bought it.

I caught my mom when I was a kid, not taking the tooth but for putting them away in not such a good spot. I opened a drawer and found all my teeth in a tiny box. I wouldn't leave her alone until she admitted she was the tooth fairy. The fairy was always good to me, I usually got $5 per tooth!

This happened to me with DD9 just a few days before Christmas. She shares my armoire jewelry box (she has one side a few drawers) but she went through one of my drawers and found her teeth. I am NEVER quick on my feet with this stuff, but I told her that the tooth fairy makes her visit but leaves Mommy the teeth to save and that Ema (that's what she calls my mom) has all of my teeth. I'm not sure she completely buys it because she still asks me questions, but it's held her off for now.

Tooth fairy had trouble here last night. I was out of $$! And at 9 pm my son says- oh I forgot I lost a tooth at school today. (He has a bunch out right now) I was digging though drawers trying to find some cash. I even tried talking to him about how when I was a kid I got a nickel. He looked at me like I was nuts.

I did eventually find $2 so that's what the tooth fairy left this time.

That's what we did at our house too.

We had a special little egg holder cup that was used for the tooth fairy.

Worked very well.

My DD has lost 4 teeth in the last month, and TWICE I (I mean the toothfairy) have forgotten to go in and take the tooth and leave $. We even have a special "tooth box" that sits on their nightstand, so it's very easy to get to. The first time, I just told my DD that the tooth fairy must be very busy because so many kids are loosing their teeth right now and that I'm sure she would come soon. Magically the tooth fairy came when DD was in the shower . The second time DD came up to me and said mom the tooth fairy must be late again . Unfortunately it wasn't a shower day for DD, so the tooth fairy didn't come until after school started!

I get up at 5:00 AM and work from home so you would think I could handle this, but apparently not!

OP here. Well, she didn't ask any questions this morning. She totally bought it. Phew!

We had a similar incident last night. DD7 is in a loft bed and I wasn't able to retrieve the tooth. She was happy to get the dollar, but really bummed her tooth was still there. We said maybe TF's bag was full at the end of a busy night, but will need a better plan for next time.

The tooth fairy never took the teeth in our house. "She" has a real problem even looking at them. Of course she always forgot to leave money too. My kids were so easy. They tended to be restless sleepers so I would throw the money somewhere on the bed while they got dressed and have them look again. My DS told the youngest what would happen after she lost the first couple of teeth so she would just come up to me and tell me she lost a tooth and I owed her $1.

I blew the tooth fairy with my oldest early on, I kept forgetting. My youngest never believed in the tooth fairy, but he still played along to get the cash.....lol. My kids are 16 & 12 and they still love to get the pictures with characters, santa etc....knowing the truth didn't ruin it at all.

I bought a tiny pillow from a craft show for each DD that had a tiny pocket to hold the tooth. I wrapped the tooth in tissue which was sticking out and easy to grab. The pillow was always placed on their nightstands. Then the dollar was tucked into the pocket and all was done is seconds. Just a suggestion.

This is why we created a rule that the tooth goes in a ziplock bag & is under "something soft" (i.e. stuffed animal or pillow or whatever is handy) and is put at their spot on the kitchen table.

In the morning, there is .50 left in a ziplock bag in it's place.

Out of all the characters the tooth fairy is my least favorite. My boys tend to be light sleepers, the older ones have bunk beds so really hard to make sure you don't wake up 2 people in a room, etc...

Just made my life so much easier with this version. It also helps on the nights I'm just too tired to deal with it, I'm up before they are and can take care of it in the morning before they come downstairs.
