Disappointed -
My future SIL just got orders that will necessitate cancelling our August trip. Looking at the beginning of September now.
How bad will the hours be in September compared to mid August. Will the parks be open past 6 / 7?

I have been many times in September. Crowds are low, we never had a problem doing everything that we wanted. The parks do close early, but I don’t think they closed at 6-7. It will give you more time to go to Disney Springs or enjoy the pools.

Oh - it is bad. MK closing at 7. THAT is a waste of time/money/passes Kind of what I remembered. Park hopping is useless. Can't go back in the middle of the day or have real dinner. Basically, park is open less than a work day.

Sadly, MK closes several days a week at 7. We don't do Disney Springs unless we have little ones that want to see the Lego stuff or 1st timers looking for souvenirs. Same for pools - no little kids with us. So so so disappointed.

And it gets worse, it's the Food Festival. Hordes of people - shortened hours. The kids are suggesting we cancel completely - guess I am out 2 - 9 day park passes.

Take a deep breath. I think you are catastrophizing a little bit. Food and Wine in september is the least busy of the food and wine weeks. The parks aren’t open late because there will be less people. So you won’t need to stay until midnight to get everything done. Consider having a late lunch, and then enjoying one of the many great restaurants for dinner after the parks close. September was our favorite time to go back when we could go then.

I can also add that we went to Food and Wine last year on arguably one of the busiest weekends (Columbus Day Weekend) and we had sooooo much fun! Trying all the foods and wines in Epcot was one of my highlights of the trip. Even when food lines looked long, they moved very quickly.

You are right. Disappointed we are pushing out a full month. The kids can't get leave guaranteed until 2 months out - so waiting until July to be sure despite planning now. Must count down to the 180 days all over again.

Will plan a different trip - not the one we had planned - will be in the room by 8:30/9 - that really does suck. I remember the first time that happened - thought I had remembered all the other times incorrectly. The early closing while almost light out are unpleasant. I don't think the lines will be shorter because Disney reduces capacity to coincide with lower crowds maintaining an artificial wait. Shows are reduced and parades non existent on certain days. We are missing Moonlight Magic.

One more month for something to go wrong. I did save a ton of DVC points even with the extra day.

Do you know if the dates of MNSSHP are posted (or should I guess it is the 7:00 closure)? I just started to become aware of it - Halloween not having been a tome for us to visit in the past.

Will start searching for info. Mainly - dates, cost, appropriateness for adults, etc...

We used to love September because most of the children we baxk in school. Back then I was willing to take mine out of elementary school. It also saved a lot of points on the vacation club as I was reminded today when adding an extra day still saved me a hundred thirty six points.

The 7 PM closings were definitely because of MNSSHP. That's the downside of going during times of the special parties. But, you can enter at 4PM and could buy a party ticket for one of those nights and check it out. Just shorten up the other park tickets you buy by a day. September isn't as slow as it used to be. When hours come out they will likely be shorter than they end up being. Also a new thing of Disney to do - even with years of history to base hours on.

I have mostly recovered from the disappointment, in many ways thanks to the DISers who offered encouragement. It's a month delay. I still have another 180 day mark to re-book what I cancelled. - Speaking of - having to cancel each one was a less-than experience. I called - automated system offered "Cancel All". CM came on the line - she insisted on reading me each restaurant and time for which I had to affirm the cancellation. I had already changed my room reservation to September. If I still had the room, I could almost see them worrying about someone making a mistake but in this case, it made no sense to have to affirm each and every one when they offered a 'cancel all" option. At least I had the opportunity to remind myself of what a good job I had done.

DVC cancelled the Illuminations Cruise and HDDR for me. That was a great experience! CM gave me her extension and name to use in the future. Great new program - she told me they work from home now. So jealous - what a job!

My DH will have another month to recover from his rapidly approaching surgery (and time to accrue more vacation days).

We can go to the MNSSHP - that will be new and fun to us. My DD was pretty excited when I told her about it AND we can try the Food & Wine Festival (based on the Christmas offerings, everyone will likely have enough early on - some of the food was throw in the garbage bad ) - but the rest of EPCOT will still be there.

Maybe we will do one of the F & F experiences instead of the Illuminations cruise.

And, how likely is another hurricane hitting on the same day as last year? Like an insurance policy (or buying a $$ generator)

Having worked in customer service before, I can bet a lot of money I don’t have (bc I’m certain I’ll win) that there have been countless cases when a person insists they want to cancel it all, and once they do it, the person remembers “oh wait not THAT one”...

Canceling a stay doesn’t mean you’re cancelling a visit.

A tip for September: everyone will look at the calendar and decide to go to the MK on a day when it closes later. This means that days when a party occurs are the least crowded of the year, while non party days will be very crowded. So plan to go during the day to the MK on party days, park hop just for the evening shows on another night if you have a parkhopper ticket.

When we go then, we make our ADRs for in the 8:00pm hour range so as to go after parks close and then have a slow leisurely dinner. Might be then getting back to room at 10pm or so.
