DH decided he will have a week or so off next month. May 21st or after. I check Traveolocity and can get semi inexpensive flights out of Sacramento. Call MS and they don't have any availability for VB. We just went to WDW for 11 days in January and DH doesn't want to spend a whole week or more there again, so we thought VB would be a good compromise. We could stay at VB for 4 days and WDW for 4 days.

So, booking last minute is not cheaper or better. I thought I was beginning to cure myself from compulsive planning. I guess it's not such a bad thing after all.
Now I we have no vacation to look forward to :(

Ohhhh,, that's so :sad2: sad~ I also plan way too much and each time I try to be compulsive, I think ,"ooooo, this could have been planned :guilty: so much better."

Very sorry things aren't looking particularly Mickey for you today. Can you waitlist for VB or would the airfare be too much at that point? I hope you can salvage a wonderful time, what about conseirge II? Any thing there for you? Hope things work out for you! pixiedust:

Did you try to wait list for the days you can't get?

Did you consider going to SSR for the week and just NOT going to parks the whole time, if at all?

You could do other things around Orlando...or even just sit by the pool. The resort itself is really nice, and would still be away from home.

Or did you try Hilton Head?

Just a couple thoughts...

Hi Everyone!

Thank you for your sympathies! It helps alot. I was going to try the waitlist, but the MS said we would be at the bottom of the list. I didn't even bother due to airfare...BUT! I called Disney directly and they had a studio for the nights we need. I put it on hold and anxiously waiting for DH to wake up and see if it's okay. He tend to cook on vacation, so we could have sandwiches and go out for dinner at VB.

So anyway.. my lesson is, being a compulsive planner is good!

Wish me luck!

Deb

And May is a low time both for WDW and VB.

We just decided to go in June for a little anniversary trip, but only 2 of our 4 nights were available at VB, so we're doing SSR with no parks - just the pool, the spa, and DTD. Should be nice and relaxing!

Yes, but this trip is late May to the beach. Southern Schools are getting out about then and several of my friends do thier family vacations immediately upon school closure since the rest of the summer tends to book up with sports, camp etc....

Only takes about an hour to get to Daytona Beach, and theres Sea World. Busch Gardens Tampa. They have transportation to and from Busch Gardens thye pick up at a lot of non Disney hotels in the area. Plus Cypress Gardens, Universal. We go down a lot and have discovered a lot more than Disney to do. SSR is within walking to DD and PI so there's lots of night life, for young and old. HH is an option but it's prime golf season. Don't know if you have enough 'time to book outside DVC. Good Luck.

Well, we decided not to go :( Airfare is a little high and then having to pay for the studio at VB is a bummer. After staying in a 1 or 2 bedroom DH is having a hard time going back to a studio. We are spoiled by our DVC! This is the best investment we have ever made. At WDW the only resort open is SSR. I guess SSR is at the bottom of the list as far as favorability. We've stayed at OKW and SSR already and wanted to try something new.

So we'll stay here at go to the Monterey Bay Aquarium or the High Tech Museum in San Jose. Hopefully the weather will be warm enough to go on the boat. I hate to say it, but it wont feel like a "real" vacation , but it will be much cheaper!

Thanks Everyone!

Later May is a little busier but things really do not pick up until the holiday weekend as most schools down here aren't out until the week before. That would still leave a week of low demand overall. Even cruises tend to be cheaper the first one to two weeks of June but it depends on the exact timing.

If you're looking for some rest and relaxation you might try Little River Inn just south of Mendicino on Hwy 1. Fort Bragg isn't too far north of there. The area has some nice beaches and State Parks too. It's not VB, but it is at the ocean. Their website has great pictures and info.
