Help! You know how you think too hard on something and your brain just finally says, "yeah, I'm done"? That's where I'm at. :sad2:

Here's the story... I called to check rates and my dad miraculously had a 40% code attached to his name. DS and I stayed at Pop for a couple of days last month and fell in love with it, so I booked there for Dec. 11-15 for me, DS, Dad, and my aunt. (Our usual WDW group.) Only problem was, there were no preferred rooms available with the discount, only standard. We HAVE to be in a preferred room. Dad is blind, has a guide dog, and likes to be able to get to the food court and whatnot by himself.

So I figured I'd just wait it out, since we're not going until December, and surely someone with a preferred room would cancel. But a CM just told me that it would have to be someone with a preferred room on this same discount to cancel for us to be able to pick up that slot. And I'd have to call at just the right time. Now I'm not so sure we'd get a preferred room. :(

My aunt really really wants to go back to DxL, and as much as I want to stay at Pop longer I'd be happy to go back to Dixie too, but then there's the whole Pop Warner issue. They overflow to that resort, and I do NOT want to be faced with a bus full of rowdy tweens and teens every time we want to go to a park.

Does anyone have any thoughts on what the best option would be? I really appreciate any suggestions!

Hi,
We have not stayed at the Pop Hotel. Stayed at All-Star Music many years ago. We know say at moderate or deluxe hotels. My suggestions is to find a hotel that would be able to accomodate your dad's needs.
We liked Coronado Springs resort. Although it could be compliicated to get to food court. But you could ask for a prefered room. Also liked Wilderness Lodge.
Our all time favorite is Beach & Yacht Club. Will stay again in JUly.
Also have you informed the CM when booking about Dads needs. Maybe they will accomodate your family as it is more of a neccesety.
Good Luck and Have Fun on your trip.

There aren't any prefered rooms at POR so I don't see how that is a better option for you. Some of the non prefered rooms at Pop are very close to the food court. Doesn't Disney have a special phone number you can call for folks with special needs? I'm sure they would accomodate you in a non prefered room close to the foodcourt.

Disney is very good at complying with ADA regulations; I would think if you just tell them what your needs are, they should be able to help you. If they can't, ask to speak to a supervisor and see what they say. Good luck.

Thanks, guys. Disney has always been great with accomodating our room requests as much as they can, so I don't think they'd stick us in the back of the 50's building or something. I hope. They have the special needs requests spelled out on the reservation, and I'm just going to keep calling every morning to see if a preferred room rate opened up. Hopefully they won't get sick of me calling and block my number or something. :thumbsup2

Thanks again for y'alls thoughts!

I am sure they will do everything they can to accommodate. However if no room is available, it's not available. :confused3 It may be the best you can get is close, and on the first floor. :confused3
Just keep trying. It is a popular time, so will be more difficult, esp with a 40% code attached.
Have a plan B resort as back up just in case.
I also suggest CSR as your back up. That is a great resort.

I just keep calling and hoping. :) So far no luck, but hopefully someone will cancel. This isn't an ADA issue by any stretch -- we just like to be as close as possible to the food court and such because then Newley (the dog) learns the route very easily. And he actually already knows the route at DxL.

I really wasn't thinking about the room size when I booked us into Pop -- DS and I just wanted to be back there again so much. But he and I can go another time by ourselves and stay at Pop again. Hopefully we can get into DxL and I won't have to stress anymore. :) And I decided to not worry about the Pop Warner people -- we can always just tell them to shut up with their stupid cheering, and any real problems would get reported immediately anyway. They will have all been there for 5 days by the time we arrive, and hopefully starting to thin out.

As far as CSR goes, I know all the resort preferences are totally a matter of personal taste, but we think that place is just hideous. Definitely not our style, but that's just us. :)

On a complete side note, one of the CM's I spoke with said that he has seen the pic I took of Newley and Pluto nose-to-nose at MK on some internal employee website! Newley is famous!! :goodvibes
