I got back from the doctor today with a prescription for Tamiflu. Yes, I guess I have H1N1!!!! I feel like poop and my DH is away this week which means I have no help with the kids. Ugh!!!! Maybe I am just a whiner, but all I really want to do is sleep and that is hard to do with a 4 and 6 year old in the house.;) I am just happy that my kids got the H1N1 vaccine last month and likely won't get it.

I really hope the Tamiflu kicks in quickly and I feel better soon.

I don't believe being prescribed Tamiflu automatically means that you have H1N1. It is my understanding that they are not testing for that particular strand of flu anymore and are prescribing this medication to wipe it out of your system - H1N1 or otherwise. In any event, feel better!

You are correct Nikki, the doctor explained that they are not testing for it anymore as everything is coming back influenza A and H1N1 is the only influenza A that is going around these days. Seasonal flu usually starts in Jan/Feb and I have been vaccinated for that one but not H1N1. Combine that info with the fact that I work in a school that is currently reporting a 20% absent rate due to flu.:scared1:

Anyway, thanks for the get well wishes:)

Hope you have a lot of DVD's to keep the kids busy while you try and get some rest. Here's some pixie dust for you. pixiedust:

Do you feel like "heck"? I am so sorry.
Rest well. Drink your fluids.
Feel better soon.

Based on DD's experience, the Tamiflu will really help shorten the duration of the fever and will lessen the symptoms to some degree. She was fever free after about 2.5 days, instead of the 4-5 that most kids around here are seeing and her fever was quite a bit lower (102 compared to 104 for most) very soon after starting her doses. The respiratory leftover stuff lasted a little over a week.

Last time I looked at the CDC site their weekly stats were still saying of the tests they were doing that were positive for flu 99.9% were Influenza A, H1N1. Around here they are only testing folks who are hospitalized. Our county's health department says the rapid (in the Dr. office) test is only 10-30% accurate. Sheesh, what is the point!

Hope you feel better soon. It must be so hard to have to take care of the children while going through this. Wash, wash, wash your hands.

When I had Tamiflu, it took about a two doses before I felt any better. It should suggest eating before taking it, which I highly recommend, it made me feel a lot less sick.

I hope you get better soon!

oh no, did you get Tamiflu? I think it is helping me.

I hope you feel better soon.

Here there is no Tamiflu, they gave me "Tachipirina" that helps you to lower the fever, if in 3 days the fever doens't get any lower I'll have to go to the hospital. But I must say I'm feeling a bit better, in one hour I'll measure my temperature. Thanks for the support.:goodvibes Hope you get better soon too!

lots of swine flu on the board....i wonder if it's contagious if i hang around here too much

seriously, i'm sorry to hear you're not well - and when you're alone with the kids....isn't it always like that - getting sick when the husband is away...

there's a lot of swine flu around here too....they've just started vaccinating, but only certain groups, none of which i qualify for..
and in any case, i'm not sure i should be vaccinated, as i had a terrible reaction to the seasonal flu vaccine i got a month ago (guillain barre - supposedly only 1 in a million get guillain barre from flu vaccines....i'd much rather have won the lotto...)
I see a neurologist next week to get his opinion on what i should do...
i'm hoping that universal flu vaccine comes out soon....then i'll only have to take my chances once ..and that will be it forever...no more flu vaccines..

i hope you feel better soon!! pixiedust:
