ugh, I hate water.

I used to drink a lot of Diet Coke at work and at home, then I quit drinking it at home and went to sparkling water instead. Then I quit drinking it work too. I rarely ever drink soda/pop anymore. But I'm 100% addicted to sparkling water. I drink at least a liter a day, if not more. Sometimes I put a slice of lemon in it but most often just drink it as is. It's the fizz, or sparkle, that I'm addicted to. Gotta have it. :goodvibes

I drink a couple cups of coffee in the morning, and sometimes iced tea, or hot tea during the day/evening as well.

I like plain bottled water too, and sometimes will add Crystal Lite to it but not all that often.

Here's my thing. I love my caff free diet Pepsi, however, due to some UTI/kidney stone issues I have recently had to start drinking more water. I only like certain brands, some taste kind of soapy to me, I can't explain it. I like Deer Park or Poland Springs. Has to be room temperature although I can drink cold, just prefer it lukewarm. I cannot stand any type of flavoring to my water at all. I think it just is so nasty IMO. What Im finding is the more I drink water the more I want it. It has taken me a while to get used to. Good luck OP and I hope you can kick the Coke. :thumbsup2

Really? A whole year? Oh boy. This sounds harder than I thought, and I though it sounded plenty hard to begin with.:guilty:

but I was VERY dependent on coke...like 4 cans a day or more...it was all I would drink somedays. Start with the flavored teas...then when the headaches start to subside, add some sparkling water, then just go from there.

:thumbsup2

I used to drink a ton of Diet Coke/Diet Dr Pepper/etc. There would be days where that's probably all I drank. I still like it and will still drink it (or anything else diet) when we're out somewhere, but I was able to kick drinking it at home and at work by switching to Lipton Cold Brew iced tea. It's not instant and doesn't taste instant, but it's super-easy to make. No boiling water, no need for ice cubes, ready in less than five minutes. I sweeten it with Splenda just a little, and I love it. I can find it at the store for around $5 for a box of 22 pitcher-size tea bags (2 bags to a pitcher), but now that I know I love it I think I'm going to buy it in bulk from Amazon because it's around $3/box there shipped free.

I like Crystal Light but I found that when I drink a lot of it it gives me a headache - I'm not sure why, since I was getting aspartame in diet soda with no problems, and I get Splenda in my iced tea. Maybe the lack of caffeine in Crystal Light? Anyway, no headaches with the tea and it doesn't have the carbonation that's not supposed to be great for you, it costs less than the soda and I don't have a bunch of cans to recycle. I'm not crazy about plain water from the tap but I do buy some inexpensive Safeway-brand bottled water once every couple of weeks. I drink the water and then use the empty bottles to carry some of my iced to tea to work, rinsing several times and then recyling the bottles. I need some flavor and some sweetness in what I'm drinking when I eat, and I could probably not ever switch over to just plain water or citrus-spiked water, but the tea is enough for me. :)

I LOVE water! I drink soda a couple of times a month. Seltzer is my favorite - sometimes I'll add a splash of oj. I can't even drink oj straight - it's way too sweet for a beverage! My biggest advice is to get your kids used to drinking water, like my mom did. We have a cooler, and my kids go days without juice.

Ironically my sons love water, we have water delivered to my house, probably a result of them being in organized sports and drinking water and gatorade all the time.

Thanks every one. 1 day down LOL ;) tomorrow at work will be the test.
I'll pick up the lemon and crystal light and give that a try.

Can't imagine a pizza without a coke so I'll cut myself a little slack there.

Another vote for Flavored sparkling water. Where I am, Vons always has it in 22 oz bottls for 83 cents each. The Orange Creme is by far my favorite.

You're addicted to the sugar more than anything. Yes, water tastes like nothing - it is nothing. And that nothingness is the best thing for your health. Those sodas are about the worst. It takes time to get used to it. And maybe you are trying the wrong type of water - they do have different flavors. Aquafina, Dasani, Zephyrhills, etc - all have a slightly different taste. Some taste like pure water, some taste like chemicals (cough, Dasani, cough).

I will also add that the 8 glasses a day "rule" is a wive's tale. No science behind it. Here's all the sceince you need: if you are thirsty, drink water. If your urine is yellow, drink water. Other than those two rules, there is no magic number. Tea counts as water also, for example, so you get water from other foods and drinks and do not need to force down 8 separate glasses of water on top of those other items. In fact, too much water can be deadly.

Crystal Light "lightly lemon" is WONDERFUL!!!! Not too strong - just right!

those little packets are great for on the go...in your purse...take them to work

I never used to like water either ~~ but when I quit drinking soda and made myself drink nothing but water it was very hard ~~ and for a few weeks I had to make myself drink it ~~ but after a few weeks I got used to it and since then always carry my SIGG water bottle with me and drink at least 100 ounces a day ~~
now nothing quenches my thirst but water :goodvibes

Stick with it ~~ you'll love it soon enough !!

i'm trying to talk my mother into giving up pepsi(her doctor's have advised her to loose some weight) but she refuses. so i commend you for having the guts to at least try it!

me, on the other hand, i LOVE water. it's pretty much all i drink. i don't care much for juice or anything else. i used to be a huge pepsi drinker too, but a few years ago i had to get my wisdom teeth removed and i couldn't drink it for a week and after that, i didn't want it again. i tried it about 6 months ago but it doesn't even taste good to me, anymore.

I am slowly getting off my pop addiction as well. It is taking some time. I tried to do it "cold turkey" for a week and ended up getting really dizzy one morning from the lack of caffiene. I am mostly done with pop still have the occassionaly glass but mostly I drink water and unsweetened tea. Sometimes I add either crystal light or kool aid singles to the water for some sweetness. I have already lost 8 pounds since January and hope to lose more.

Hooray! I'm not alone. I'm not a fan of water either. It just doesn't taste as good as soda or juice - you know stuff with flavor. Water is so blah.

I usually go the Crystal Lite (or more specifically, the off-brands which are the same thing and half the cost) route.

I'm not a big fan of plain water either.

I'm glad to see it mentioned that the old "8 glasses per day" and other water rules aren't really supported by any scientific evidence.

If you drink when you are thirsty and produce lightly colored urine, you're hydrated just fine. There's no need to follow any arbitrary rule about how much water to drink. http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/water/NU00283

Knowing that, I try to choose water with meals and when I'm thirsty. I'm much happier than when I was slavishly drinking some set amount.

Two words...Aquafina Flavorsplash!

It is flavored water put out by pepsi. I love the grape and the raspberry. I drink five to six 20 oz bottles a day. It's my new addiction now that I have given up diet coke.

Does it contain artificial sweeteners?

I don't do artificial sweeteners either--that's why I choose Propel (tiny bit of sugar)--grape is the absolute best!
