I'm not going to quote specific people, but I just wanted to say that I think some are being VERY harsh towards the OP with their replies here. If you're having a frustrating first day on vacation is the solution to bury yourself in your hotel room? No. However, the OP has stated they have since ventured out and about. Does everyone find new places easy to navigate? No.

I have cruised on the Disney Wonder four times and I still have to refer to signage/maps to figure out how to get from A to B in some cases. I am HORRIBLE at finding my way around a new place. I could very easily see something from a balcony, but not be able to get to it once I'm in motion. Go easy on others that are having a rough vacation, folks, they are probably posting because they need support --- not criticism.

My DH says that I could get lost in a paper bag if someone sealed the top. New places aren't easy for everyone.

Thanks dreams :)

You should probably just load up with snicker bars and cokes in your room. Don't leave your room until a few hours before your flight. Then venture out to go home. Yaaaaa, don't walk around the property. Just sit there and complain on dis boards. Lmao, some people are just strange.

Aulani is such a gorgeous place - we have been twice and next week will be our third visit.

I realise you made a snap decision in saying how much you disliked it but really? The weather is almost always great, the CMs are fantastic and the buildings are lovely. Why you would hole up in your room is incomprehensible to me - we have been to Oahu 11 times and see something new each visit.

Maybe try being more positive about your visit and watch the fun follow.

Did you read the whole thread? Or gumbypee's subsequent thread? The OP is having a wonderful visit, that had a very rough start.

Yep I did and as I said I am sure the OP's original remark was a badly made one - seriously Aulani is not that big. No-one on this board can help you understand or read a map, that is up to the OP to make contact with a CM who will more then willingly show them around. There are people right at the front desk walking customers around showing them different sections of the resort at all times of the day.

Had to check the calendar to be sure it wasn't April 1. This can't be serious can it?

This has got to be top 10 most ridiculous post I have ever read in my life. Person has energy to post complaints but doesn't actually walk around to find anything. I picture a person sitting in a room dying from starvation, when all you have to do is look outside and see a mcdonalds is right next door. This might make a good movie. Hmmm

I've been on cruise so no jet lag. Meltdown was result of no breakfast but the confusing layout and frustration with the map is still there. Still haven't left room. Don't know how to get to pool, beach, lazy river, slides. Found kids area though nut I have no kids.

If you don't leave the room you will never find the pool. How can you not find the pool?:confused3

I can imagine it to be like your first day of high school.
I couldn't find anything, so I went to the restroom, locked myself in a stall and cried. Sounds ridiculous, I know. But when you're in a new place and alone, sadly it can overwhelm you.
:(

Take the elevator to the Ground Floor....now in the elevator it could be labled G or L on the button but it is the one with the little star on it...once at that level exit the elevator

next there are sets of doors one set goes to the parking lot dont use that one, the other set brings you to what appears to be an Island oasis Thats the one you want...

next there are paths that lead to a beach and that is where you will find the ocean...

I mean c'mon

Ill change my tone and try to help you out. The ocean and pool are all big bodies of water. Don't be fooled by glasses of water or sinks filled with water. The ocean is going to be very large with waves. There is a great chance it will be attached to sand. The pool will look like a big puddle of water. There might be people jumping in and coming out. If you see 1 person walking behind a curtain and coming out wet, that's a shower. Your prob not in your room so run before they call security. Hope this helps.

I hope you are having a great time by now and found your way around.

Going back to the original statement - I am curious - did you ask anyone around for directions?

I am not great with maps either when something is huge and has many turns, here and there, etc. It took me about two days to really understand the layout of SSR. I walked every morning. Of course after getting it - duh - it's so easy and simple.

Enjoy and looking forward to a positive trip/experience.

If earning your ears on DIS was like being hired by Disney itself, this thread has some that wouldn't make the cut. I too hope it all turned out better.
