I am at my wits end here so I thought I would come to the dis for help. I had a nasty cold a couple weeks ago and couldn't sleep. Ever since all I do is toss and turn abd finally fall asleep around 1:30am and the kids get up at 6:30. I am Zombie like during the day. I need sleep. I stop with caffine around 3-4 pm. I don't know what else I can do.

I was having a major problem sleeping for awhile. But, it sounds like you just got your sleep cycle messed up from your cold. Hopefully, your body will adjust iself soon. Or you could try take a sleeping pill. I had to use these for a couple of weeks (not every night though) and it finally got my sleep patterns more regular. I haven't needed any pills for several weeks.

I also do not drink ANY caffeine. I was occasionally having a coke with lunch--not any later, but it seemed to still be affecting me. So I cut it out completely. But, I'm one who's never needed a caffeine boost to wake me up in the morning either.

:grouphug: I need my sleep (like 9 hours a night), and I am a bear when I don't get it. I have no idea how I survived when my kids were little and didn't sleep through the night. :crazy2:

If I have caffeine even after noon or so, I have a hard time getting to sleep. You might want to cut caffeine out completely for a while, or restrict it just to the morning, and see how that works out.

I have always heard that the bedroom should only be used for sleep and  . Do you watch tv in your room before you fall asleep? Maybe what you are watching is keeping you awake?

Are there any new stressors in your life?

If I have trouble sleeping, I usually go downstairs and watch tv. The boring infomercials that are on that time of night are sure to send me to la la land. The other thing that helps me sleep is a few minutes in our hot tub. Maybe a warm bath would help.

Good luck.

While some say it doesn't work, I've found Melatonin to be helpful for short term sleep problems. A 3 mg pill can help me sleep for 7 - 8 hours quite soundly.
