I've deleted my original post.

This got blown WAAAAAY out of proportion.

So, I'll say it again....I expressed concerns about crowds - I misinterpreted the specifics of a SoCal Summer Pass - I insisted that I did not mean ANYTHING negative towards those who hold SoCal AP's (having mentioned that in 2001 I had one myself!).....but still, some people chose to take it way too personally, and no matter how much I tried to apologize or set the record straight (or ignore it altogether, hoping the thread would just die out), it appears as though sometimes some people just "want" to be offended.

So, again....sorry if I offended anybody. And again, I meant nothing bad towards SoCal AP'rs...It's great that you live so close to a place you love, and that you get to go often. Everything is wonderful, life is a tulip, marshmallows and rainbows......there. NOW, can we just let this thread die out?

Sheesh.

Phew they're blocked 7/2-7/4 ~ that's 2 of our 4 day visit *7/3 & 7/4 ~ I wonder how much of an impact these passes will have for the summer months...

We're there 7/5-7/9. We went ahead and planned during Summer this year because from posts I read here on the Disboards, it appeared as though people were experiencing less crowds in the summer, during AP blackout periods. That, coupled with the fact that we encountered September crowds that were as bad as August crowds the year before, we decided to just go ahead and go in summer.

The crowds wouldn't even be that much of an issue for me if my kids were bigger...but my younger ones (5-12) get stepped on and knocked around by big, less considerate guests on really crowded days in the parks.

I also believe that this pass is not a hopper. So, if people want to use it to see WOC, they will not be able to get their Showpasses and then hop over to Disneyland. This might lower the attractiveness of the pass.

Grrrr!

I'm really frustrated by this....considering we have to plan our trips for the dead of summer anymore just to try to avoid the stampedes of crowds during the rest of the year. And now, that might not even help.

I was actually at the site calculating what the extra cost would be to upgrade 3 day PH's to DAP's for my family of 6....now seeing this, I'm really thinking I don't want to do it.

Sorry - and no offense meant towards anyone who holds a SoCal AP (we had them ourselves 8 years ago...). I'm just venting. I'm not even concerned with typical summer crowding....it's the EXTREME crowding that we try to avoid, and now it seems there's potential for DLR to be that way most of the time.

ETA: Now that I think about it, I guess there was something similar offered last year, too, right? Maybe it won't impact crowds too horribly. I hope.

Also, I realize now that these aren't only for AP'rs but for anyone within the SoCal zip codes. Sorry for my "freak-out" everybody, just panicking because our trip is in a few weeks and I don't want it to be awful.

Wow, why the anti-So Cal peeps sentiment? I just don't understand it.

And yes, this pass was offered last year as a PH. It was $99. It went up $30 this year.

The Summer Pass not a hopper, but it can be used at either park.

"The Summer Pass is valid for three (3) 1-Day, 1-Park admissions to either Disneyland® park or Disney California Adventure™ park, but not to both parks on the same day."

The Summer Pass Plus IS a PH.

I just wish Florida and California would offer those great deals to people who live out of state! I guess they figure we'll come anyway, even without a great deal? Florida residents get the best room rates at WDW. But me, not only do I have to pay airfare, I have to pay more for my passes and room. Doesn't seem fair. :)

I didn't look close enough ~ I'm glad it's a 3 day ticket *I thought it was a summer pass!

Last year I went at the end of June after the so cal ap's were blocked out but with the fun pass deal. It was fine. The crowds were very managable. Of course with WOC this month all bets are off. It could very well be an extra busy summer.

There is also a summer pass "plus" that is a hopper pass.

• The Summer Pass Plus is valid for three (3) days admission to both Disneyland® park or Disney California Adventure™ park, including visits to both parks on the same day.

I really don't understand all of the negative attitude towards So Cal people. This offer IMHO isn't a snub towards non-So Cal folks, it's just a way to get locals into the parks to spend their $$$. I will be buying one of these for my DH when we go in a few weeks.. He really isn't into DL much so getting him an AP wouldn't be very cost effective. This summer pass plus is just what he needs for a quick trip with the family.

There is also a SoCal Summer Fun Pass Plus, which is a 3 day PH and retails for $129. The nonPH SoCal SUmmer Fun Pass is $108.

Last year, the SoCal Summer Fun Pass was a PH and sold for $99. Even with this pass available, summer crowds during AP blackout dates were reported to be large but not crazy. This pass did have some impact on crowds though, as the July 4th weekend, when this Pass was also blocked, was quieter than the days before or after. -- Suzanne

I don't have any problem with the So Cal folks, I just don't understand the marketing strategy around giving locals a cost break and making tourists pay more. Maybe if we had that perk for living here, I might feel differently! :) I pay state taxes here, but I don't get any kind of resident discount when I go to the zoo or amusement parks here. Maybe Disney has to do this to get the locals to attend. I'm sure they've studied it carefully, but it still feels unfair that the locals get the deals. :goodvibes

Correct. I was editting my post and completely messed up what I was trying to say. Thank you for catching my error and posting the correct information. I've fixed my post. :)

Well, I think it's more the fact that some of the other APs were blocked out that weekend, not the Summer Fun Pass, that had the lessening effect on crowds, but who knows.

There is so much negativity towards So Cal peeps on the DISBoards these days. It's sad, to be honest.

-So-cal peeps?

You mean like the people living in South Orange County? Or the actual people that own the So-Cal AP?

I don't know if there is negativity about So. Cal "peeps" so much as there is acknowledgement that less AP visitors can equal fewer crowds can equal a more relaxing trip for us egregious touristy types. :)

No, I mean people who live in Southern California (SoCal).

Well, it certainly reads as such...
...anyone who holds a SoCal AP...

I love all people that love Disney. Just wish everyone would stay home during my vacation. :rotfl2: That way I would have the parks all to myself. :rotfl2:

I agree completely with MartinaC. I'm glad that DL has a massive fan base from the locals. But the issue is that they can go anytime and I can't. I want to be able to see/do as much as possible when I'm there.

Of course, I'm bitter because the WOC opening got pushed back to completely mess up my trip (which was set in stone last summer). And while I love Disney, I couldn't care less about seeing this show - there are so many other things to do.

I'm with dreams. It's getting old too. Since when do we have to stay home so that your vacation can be more enjoyable? Everyone has a right to visit as they please. The locals keeps that place afloat during the days when tourist numbers are low. I've been several times, we go every tuesday, and it's practically empty. Most people riding in on the tram are locals coming to spend their money in the parks that day. We get such a bad wrap for messing with crowd patterns and making it hard to take a vacation. Disney is a business and if they make more money by offering those who are close by a good deal to come to the parks then that's good business! Anyway, just lay off the locals.

Ahh ok!. I am a so cal “peep”. I live in Orange County. I don’t have a so-cal pass or a deluxe pass, I have the premium.

Martin, your funny! :rotfl2:

..and soo i had like something i was going to say but lost my "tram" of thought....
Ok I remember now..;) So yep I hear and get that all the time from non AP holders(that are locals), that they want to take trips to DLR, like for a Saturday or more but can’t because of the crowds, and then they blame the crowds on us AP holders—witch I don’t think is quite fair since it’s not really ALL AP’s. And who cares if a AP holder goes like on an average of 5 times a month, and either goes on rides or hangs out- I feel that at least they are using there pass. if you got it use it! I bought my pass so I could go a lot to Disneyland and when I wanted to, I just made more sense, and if you knew how much I go it probably knock your socks off:scared1:… I’m sorry if someone from Texas can’t come with his or her family for 5 days to DLR_ but that is not all the AP’s fault:)
