Ugh, Airfare Prices

Remember, airlines have to buy fuel too. Gas prices have skyrocketed the last few months. It is over $3 in PA where I live.

If you think airfare is high, look at rental cars. For our 9 night trip in Jan I had a medium SUV for $237. Best I can do now for a 5 night trip in April is $299 for a small SUV. I'd get a car, but even midsize cars are around $290. It's crazy.

I’m in Michigan and it’s been a few years since we flew to Florida but we thought a round trip to Orlando for $200 was reasonable.

We have a Celebrity cruise booked for next January, we will be driving, and I’m glad we have our pre-cruise hotel in Miami already booked.

$192 is really high for Cincinnati. We flew to Orlando end of 2018 on Delta for about $120 each. In December, Frontier had flights to MCO for $85 or $65 if you belonged to their Den Club (or whatever it's called).
I've noticed how expensive car rentals are too. This was supposed to be my gift to myself for graduating from college at the ripe old age of 50. Maybe I'll see if the kids want to drive to Gatlinburg.

I live in Cincy.

Delta has pulled out of CVG as a hub. They still operate 30-40 flights daily, but it is nothing like it was. However, MCO still is a popular market and Delta knows it. It is probably likely they have 2 direct flights a day for September. They will add a third if the demand is there. They are doing that right now for April 2021.

Keep a watch on airfare. You would be considered early for booking. Right now they want to get the early bookers, so fares won't be super high, but they won't be the cheapest either. Look at seats available. If it is wide open, most likely rates will go down. Just keep watching.

Frontier typically gets cheaper the closer you get if the flight isn't near capacity. Delta, you have to hit the sweet spot and keep stalking the website daily. ;)

I just found crazy cheap tickets for my in-laws. FT Lauderdale to Dallas/Love $100, round trip. Get this, for EASTER weekend.

We've done really well on airfares this year with the pandemic deals, but I don't usually book months in advance. Looking now for Sept seems really premature - from Detroit to most Florida destinations, the best prices tend to be found 6 to 8 weeks in advance (assuming you're not traveling at peak times of year), and it doesn't seem to be a whole lot more than that for San Francisco/Oakland, where we've done the best booking 8 to 10 weeks out. I just booked one leg of our summer trip and got what I think is an excellent price - $124 going from Detroit to Anchorage. Hopefully I'll be able to do as well on the return flight when I'm done working out our itinerary and figure out when/where we'll be flying home from.

Now that CVG is no longer a "Focus City" for DL I would expect it to get higher. I've got flights booked from ORD-DAL for $98 RT at the end of April, my wife went MDW-MCO for $97 in Feb. but I'm expecting my next trip to MCO in October to be much more expensive.

I just paid $493 through Costco for 7 day Premium SUV in Orlando. I booked it about six weeks ago and kept checking prices. Right before we left for our trip the same quote was close to $700. Glad I booked when I did.

September is too far out for Frontier to have deals or sales. The last promo they sent me was for flights booked up through the end of May. They often have higher prices further out.

I paid $215 each in 2006 to fly from Dayton to MCO. I'd consider that a good price.

Not necessarily. Delta likes to remain competitive with other airlines having the same routes in CVG. They have gone toe to toe with Frontier and Southwest to be the preferred airline out of CVG.

Delta has waffled back and forth about CVG being a focus city. But the day after the news broke that CVG was no longer a focus city, it was broadcasted that yes, it was in fact still a focus city. I think it will all depend on business travel. They do have a satellite base for approximately 80 flight attendants just for the CDG flight (that is still not back.) I think if CDG doesn't return to CVG, then the focus city will be pulled along with the satellite base. Time will tell.

This is the route we fly twice a month. So fll is the spirit hub and they are stupid cheap making AA and others have to come down on the prices. The normal I have been paying with spirit fll to dfw RT is about $49 and AA being about 75-100

Holy moly! I thought Frontier was supposed to have cheap flights. A September flight is coming in at $192 round trip for one person. When I looked in December, the price was $84. >:(
I’m pretty sure when Biden made the announcement that vaccines would be available for everyone in May, the cost of flights shot way up.
