I love uggs  But the last two pairs I've owned have gotten stained badly just from normal use with a week or two of wearing them :sad2: Any suggestions for boots as comfortable as UGGs but not quite as delicate? Any ideas would be appreciated :thumbsup2

Have you tried the Ugg cleaning kit? My dd has four pair of them and we have been lucky I guess because we have never had an issue, but I do know that they have a cleaning kit.

You can also take them to a dry cleaner. However, take them ONLY to a dry cleaner who has the sign from Ugg stating they are certified in Ugg cleaning.

On another note, I had to take my daughter to the orthopedist for a dance injury. She was wearing the Uggs I got her for Christmas. He said those are the absolute WORST things you can wear on your feet. He calls them "winter flip flops". He showed me how you can bend the foot part and twist it, etc with no resistance whatsoever. He said they have no support at all and no one should be wearing them unless it's for a very short walk --- definitely not meant to wear all day or when doing a lot of walking. He said he has tons of patients who have major foot/leg problems from wearing them.

You know, I had never really wanted her to get the Uggs. I always found them to be hideous-looking and never believed they had support for the foot. Well, I saw the ones I got her (the Sunburst Uggs) and they were on sale ($225) and I knew she wanted them for Christmas so I bought them. Now, I wish I hadn't.

Uggs makes a special spray that is designed to protect the suede. I spray my boots at the beginning of each season. They are on their 3rd winter now, and still look very nice. The spray is about $10, but I'm still using my original bottle of it.

Nah, the worst shoes for your feet are really things like Sketchers EasyTones and orthotics/orthotic inserts. Though I'm sure there some podiatrists di$agree :) coming from somebody who suffered with plantar fasciitis and weak ankles/arches, the best thing I ever did for my feet was learn about barefoot running and natural shoes. Though I still wear my uggs on occasion with no problem!

OP, an Ugg dealer recommended using an old, soft toothbrush with the Ugg cleaner to me. If you treat the shoes before you wear them, it makes it easier to clean. Where are you wearing them that they get stained?

You can handwash them. Both the Ugg website and Zappos has instructions. Usually handwash mine and throw them in the wash on just the spin cycle to get out the extra water. That probably isn't recommended but I've never had a problem. Then I stuff them with paper to help keep their shape while they dry.

I sprayed my DDs Uggs with suede protector stuff before the first wearing and we have had no trouble with stains. I bought the can of spray at Walgreens.

I have to agree. I have an almost 4 year old sprained ankle with 2 surgeries to fix it. My podiatrist has seen my (fake)Uggs and doesn't say a thing. I love that they wrap my ankle and give it support. As for the barefoot running, I'm working on that one soon :)

As for an alternative, I wear the Costco ones. They are over a year old and no stains what so ever. I love them.

We bought the Bear Paw brand and had good luck with them, look like Uggs but not quite as expensive... but better than the cheap 20-30$ ones.

The Skechers are bad for you because they mess with your balance, not because of a lack of support. Not sure why orthotic inserts would be bad for you.

My daughter's orthopedist showed how there is absolutely NO support with Uggs. He took the boot and twisted it and contorted it in all kinds of ways and said that's the problem with them.

I also have plantar facisits and was thinking of getting orthotic inserts for support..... now I'm second thinking this? Why are orthotic inserts bad? Who told you this? I thought "flats" would be good for my feet, but it made them much, much worse.

Yeah, basically as long as they are real sheepskin, there really isn't a big difference. If the Op's Uggs get that bad after a week or two, I'm not sure changing brands will help.

I suppose if a person has foot problems, then they always need to wear shoes with some kind of support. Does your DD wear sandals in the spring/summer? Most sandals have absolutely no support at all, yet people wear them here 7 out of 12 months a year here. So for a child with no foot issues (I'm not talking about a sports/dance injury), I don't see the big deal about wearing Uggs. Of course people shouldn't do sports or jump rope in Uggs, but for simple daily walking, they are fine for the majority of the population.

The doc said he has countless patients who've developed problems from wearing Uggs on a daily basis doing a lot of walking. I've never liked Uggs --- I find them to be hideous-looking but she wanted them so badly that I conceded and got her a pair that looked at least somewhat nice.

I love how they envelope my ankle and give it a feeling of being wrapped and supported. I wore them after getting a shot in my ankle to deaden the nerves and they felt so good. Of course, I don't know anyone, even the teens I swim with, who wears them on a daily basis.

Well, then the doc must also have countless patients who've developed problems from wearing flat sandals, ballet flats, converse shoes, Vans shoes, shoes with a high heel (which is the IN style right now), and a host of other shoes I see in the store on a daily basis that do not have support.

Adding orthodics can solve the problem. Maybe there's a way to put the inserts under the sheepskin lining.
