UGGGGHHHH...Boatwrights no longer serving breakfast!!!

This is a way people are cutting back at WDW and let's face it you can certainly save a lot of money, especially on breakfast, even eating out at other places. ie, at our local Dunkin Donuts (according to UG there's one just outside the park), two muffins would run about $4, two crossoints about $3.50 and the three drinks would cost about $4.50 - that's a total of about $12; a savings of 30%. Go to the grocery store and you can probably save another dollar or two. Factor that across all your meals and that's huge. Compare that to a sit down meal and that savings becomes even larger closer to 75%. Bring in pop-tarts/cereal bars or cereal or a dozen donuts or a grocery store danish and the savings are closer to 90%.

But I also think that this is going to be part of a going trend where most of the restaurants at disney no longer offer breakfast - not just because of the economy - in part because most people are jumping on the "all inclusive" bandwagon and buying the DDP. It's the economics of the DDP. Aside from the Character Breakfasts and buffets like BOMA, when at most restaurants most adult breakfasts cost @$10 a person even at an expensive restaurant - most people are not going to elect this as their sit down meal because they'd be losing serious money (about $20/person/day). You could just pay out of pocket but why would you when you've got a snack credit that will buy you a muffin.

In future, I'd expect many, many more of the restaurants to be closed for breakfast. I think WDW will probably be closing all but the wildly popular or expensive breakfast options. I think they will keep a few non character meals open but just because of the DxDDP.

I realize that profit is the bottom line and majority mentality rules the nest, but this would leave me, and many others like me, out in the cold.

Lets break it down. My trip for five at the GF in May w/ DDP and PH is running me close to $5000. THAT IS A LOT---I could begin travelling abroad for that kind of money! I could go ANYWHERE for that kind of money. I love Disney, but not to the point of being a fool and a dunce about the economics of MY financial status.

If what you say is true, and I realize that its speculation at this point, I would probably give up WDW save once every 10 years! My family thrives on eating a big breakfast, characters or not, with a mid day snack, and an early-ish dinner to sustain us throughout our commando park experience.

a croissant and a juice would only tick us off. to offer no breakfast at all is near the top of the worst that could happen----and if the price of the DDP did not accomodate this downgrade, then DDP would NEVER get my money again.

This sucks. Let me go find a happier topic.

jlima: Might be hard for many people getting to those other "outlets".

THis ranks right up with the closing of Tony's for breakfast. They took Bonfamilles away entirely, and now Boatwrights for breakfast. How Disney justifies this their business I guess--to me, bonehead decisions.

We love Boatwright's and we did love Tony's as well. It's unfortunate since we've never seen Boatwright's all that empty at breakfast anyway.

BTW, how was BlueStone? The menu looks great; we might have try it.

We live in a different section of Maryland, but our restaurants are always packed as well.

That's too bad, I always thought Boatwrights was underrated. It was a great spot for breakfast.

We were at POFQ 1/11-1/18. I can confirm the canceling of breakfast at Boatwrights. Our waitress told us.

And those Sweet Potato Cakes are so good. We went on the sixth and seventh mornings of our trip. If I had known how good they were, we would have eaten breakfast there every day. They should ADVERTISE instead of close.

But then I think a lot of families save their money for Lunch and Dinner table service restaurants. We found it wasn't crowded at all for breakfast. But was busy for dinner.

I think a lot of people also try to get to the parks for rope drop. Not us.... we slept late every morning.

Here's the recipe, I found it on all ears. It's just going to have to do. I was looking forward to trying this on our next trip.

Sweet Potato Pancakes
Boatwright's
Port Orleans-Riverside

Yield: 12-15 pancakes

Pancakes:
1 1/4 cups brown sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 1/2 cups milk
3 each eggs
6 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
12-ounce can sweet potato, mashed

Pecan honey butter:
1 stick butter (at room temperature)
1/4 cup honey
1/4 cup toasted pecans

To make pecan honey butter, combine butter, honey and toasted pecans. Set aside.

To make the pancakes, combine dry ingredients in a mixing bowl. Stir in milk and beaten eggs. Add oil and vanilla. Beat until smooth. Fold in the mashed sweet potatoes (should result in a lumpy texture). In a small nonstick frying pan, heat 1 teaspoon vegetable oil over medium heat. Pour in batter to desired size. Cook until dark brown (sweet potato pancakes take a little longer to cook than regular pancakes because of the density of the sweet potatoes). Serve pancakes warm with pecan honey butter.

I made these this morning for breakfast, they were very good. Yummy.

I am getting discouraged with all the cut backs as well. The breakfast at Boatwrights was great. I liked the stuffed french toast better there than at Kona!

I've never been there, but it seems that they are putting PO at a disadvantage. Am I right that now the only mod resort with table service for breakfast is CSR? We aren't huge breakfast eaters, but it's nice to have a relaxing breakfast at your own resort once or twice a week.

This is too bad. They did serve a good breakfast. I just returned this weekend and the cut backs were everywhere. From no longer being served bread at Captian Grill *YCG for lunch to the lack of Fantasmic showings (only 2 days a week), to the early closing of EPCOT on Friday night (somehow seeing iluminations at 8:00PM is weird). Portion sizes were shrinking even more than our trip just a couple of months ago. The cutbacks were very noticeable. And we even noticed at many of the TS locations there were no bendee straws being offered....only the regular ones....where will it end?

I'm going to miss having breakfast at Boatwrights. We have dined there many times over the years and also enjoyed our meals. They took away Tony's in the MK several years ago and we really miss that too.

I have to second the pp who said that Disney has been getting crazy with their prices. We skipped WDW last year and went to Europe instead; when we went back last month, I was shocked at the increase in food prices.

Even using the TiW card, the prices for our meals were at least 30% more than we had spent the previous year. Why did they feel they could keep increasing the price to that extent, when it was obvious last year we were in a recession? The economy had to catch up, and now the prices for food are so exorbitant, people who normally eat 2-3 TS meals a day (like us) are looking for ways to save - e.g., eat granola bars or a smoothie instead of a sit-down breakfast.

I've never used the DDP, because it didn't work for us; I looked into it for our next visit in March, but since you have to pay tips OOP, we can just cut back the number of TS meals and save more money that way. Eat more snacks, less big meals. That has never been our plan before, we love eating out at WDW - but at the prices they are now charging, with the economy like it is, we'll skip a few meals this time.

And, for the first time EVER - we are looking at eating some of our meals off-site!
