Uggg! Can I do this?? Question about 2012 pts

Okay... I need some help figuring out if I can use my points to cover part of a cruise reservation (Points for 1 person and cash for 2 others) I know it is not a good use of points but it will be the difference between an inside or an oceanview!

I have a MARCH use year
I want to book a June/july 2011 Alaskan cruise

I have 4 2010 points (they are banked into 2011)
I will get 125 pts on March 2011.

I need 250ish points for the cruise

Can I borrow from the 2012 points for a cruise??
Also, when can i borrow?
Do I have to wait until my March 2011 (use year/month) to borrow from the next year?

Since the the trip is in your 2011 year you should be able to borrow the points from 2012. If you do though and need to cancel, those points borrowed cannot be put back into 2012. You will have to use them in 2011 for something.

Be ready to also pay the full cash amount at time of booking.

Good luck - there was limited availability for the Alaska cruises and the Dream before Oct. 2011 (if booking with points).

If you can book on points, be sure to first check on the "cash" price, and compare it to the cost for booking the second and third passengers through Member Services when using points for one person. We priced out a Mediterranean cruise using points for my kids and cash for my husband and me, and we have saved less than $500 by using over 500 points, because the rates for booking through DVC were so much higher than the rates available through DCL. That may be a special case because the rates on the Med cruise fell substantially after they were first released, but you should definitely make sure using points really saves you money.

Right now, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013 points are in your account if you look online. So there would be no problem borrowing 2012 now for a 2011 use year date.

I think the chances will be very slim that you will be able to get a points reservation. Someone posted about a month ago that all cruises are maxed out for points use through September 2011.

I think they're not allowing any more cruises for 2011 to be booked on points. There was a big thread about it a couple of weeks ago on the cruise board. They've maxed out all the cruises on points for the rest of the year. Probably 'cuz they gave so many away as add-on incentives.

For me, every time I checked on a Disney cruise, it has been cheaper with cash price than using points. So I rent the points out and pay cash for the cruise. It is extra work to have to rent the points. But it gives you more flexibility on the cruise.
