is the first week of August so CROWDED? We have 8 days in the parks, and 6 of them are "9"s. Why is that? Even the days around July 4th aren't 9's for a solid stretch like that! So what is it that is making MY week the most crowded week out of the whole freaking summer?

It could be a convention, or any number of things. Please note that these categories are only estimates, from one web site. I wonder about their times too- sure, it's a "worst case", but according to their site the wait at Space Mountain or BTMRR is NEVER less than 45 minutes, during almost ANY time of the year? I find that hard to believe.

Even if you agree with them, and are concerned about your wait, note that an "8" and a "9" are only 10 minutes apart- so according to their site, you're likely to wait only an additional 10 minutes for when compared to other weeks.

Forum newbie here... what chart are you looking at that gives a rating like this? Thanks for any info! ~Ev :)

Try looking in the "The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World 2006" by Bob Sehlinger. It's published annually available in the UK August/September every year so you may get it earlier in the US. :thumbsup2

Notice those are peak wait times, not all day wait times. So they don't claim the wait is NEVER under those times. If you hit Space Mountain at 10 in the morning or 10 in the evening it's likely to be less than the peak time posted.

The chart we're talking about is here.

I don't think it's a convention, because conventions don't usually bump the crowds estimates up. Even when there ARE conventions (cheerleaders, Pop Warner, Gay Days, Home Builders Assn., you name it) the crowds aren't all the way up to "9" for six out of eight consecutive days. It boggles my mind. I don't get how out of 52 weeks in a year I can manage to steer around the holiday weeks and land smack in the middle of what looks to be the MOST crowded time OTHER than holidays!

DS starts Spring Break today (YAY!) and if we were leaving this morning and staying next week the crowds aren't as high as that first week in August. Unfortunately DH couldn't get time off until August. Well, it is what it is. We can't move our dates so I guess we'll see EVERYBODY in August! :crowded:

We always go when it's busy and it will be again this year and last year I looked at this after I had all of our ADRs and really couldn't move our days and we did okay. I had everything booked on the worst days to be in a particular park. We always go in June and this year it will be later in June when more schools are out. We always get up early and have a great time!

Could it be because for a lot of Southerners (Texas included) that's like the last week or so before school starts? Last year, school started on like Aug 14th for us.

I don't know what it is. :confused3

I wouldn't have chosen to go the week before DS goes back to school if we would have had any other options. I am pretty sure he'll go back August 14, which is why we are coming back from WDW on the 12th. There is that proposal in the legislation to make ALL of TX go back after Labor Day, but I couldn't sit around and wait for them to decide. We'd still be waiting, and I wouldn't have any reservations! :rotfl:

I just thought it was very bizarre that ONLY the first week of August is that crowded, only surpassed by Easter and Christmas.
