UEA convention 2018

I live in Utah and our district still has UEA, or “fall break” scheduled. For our district, the dates are October 18th through 22nd.

Interesting! I live in Utah too, so I'm intrigued with this. Our calendar for 18-19 is already out, so I doubt anything will change. But, if it's a permanent cancellation maybe it will effect coming years. I would think each district will likely replace it with a fall break.

UEA break has become a tradition in Utah. i don't think it is likely to change. In more recent years, we have noticed that, more and more, the break that school districts have in October is called "Fall Break" rather than UEA. If anything, this news is worse for potential crowd levels rather than better. Now, the few teachers who actually may have attended the UEA convention will have the opportunity to take their families on a Fall break vacation instead. A visit to Disneyland is often a favorite way to spend fall break for many, many Utah families. I've heard UEA referred to as "Utahns Entering Anaheim" or "Utahns' Exodus to Anaheim."

As has been alluded in previous responses, many school districts already have their calendars for next school year firmly fixed with an October fall break included, regardless of this UEA convention announcement. Here are links to calendars of three of the largest districts in the Salt Lake Valley:

Yeah, I don't think this will have much impact on 2018. Breaks are already set for next year whether the convention itself is held or not. Now, if it continues to be cancelled in 2019 and beyond, it may dilute the influx of Utahns in October to several weekends instead of being more concentrated on a single one. Most fall breaks are in conjunction with the convention, but some aren't, even now. If there's no convention, I'd expect more fall breaks to move to different weekends.
