UCT "flagged for security"

What does a selfie prove when scammers can easily use photoshop, and many people have their photos available on social media?

glad to see someone else was asked this same ridiculous photo with card request from them, it happened to me on Fri, I refused to send it and they did honor my purchase and I saved a total of $200 on 7 day park hoppers with their current sale, they are legit but it is concerning that they are resorting to this type of verification process, if provided a cc number exp date and csv code nothing else should be needed, was glad they honored my purchase without the additional hoops to jump through

really wahmtexas that is interesting, because I just got off the phone with them and they would not help me out at all. I'm going to send a note to mousesavers too. I really can't believe they recommend this place. Just for the full story because I think other potential buyers should know:

Thursday I placed an online order through Undercover Tourist for a promo combo WDW and Universal Studios tickets. I immediately got an email that said the order was flagged for security purposes with instructions to take a "Selfie" photo of myself holding the credit card, covering the first 12 numbers of the card leaving my name and last 4 digits visible. I was at work and talked to a few people in my office including an attorney and an accountant, as well as other co workers that often travel to Disney, and overwhelmingly everyone agreed it was suspicious. I wasn't asking to be dramatic, I was asking because I genuinely thought this was weird. The consensus I would wait 24 hours and see if they contacted me again or if the charge went through on my card.

Friday, the charge was on my card and a second email request for security was sent to me. I chose to upload a picture of the card without myself in it. I did not get another email that day.

Saturday I started getting emails from a different email address saying the photo did not meet requirements and to resubmit. The email wasn't HTML like the others and had no links in it. It said if they did not receive a satisfactory photo by Sunday 2/5 they would cancel my order. I did not see these emails until Monday morning because they all went to spam. I have a UTC account and get their other emails no problem.

Monday, today, I emailed back to them on both the "Spam" caught email and other email address early in the morning. There was no answer within a couple hours. I went to check my account online and there was no order there. I placed another order. The price difference from Thursday to today was $7. I again got the security flag email. I emailed them again, came on here to check in about it, and then went on to the online chat. The person on the chat either wouldn't or couldn't tell me what the problem was with my order. Also wouldn't or couldn't offer me another alternative to sending a selfie photo. The most she would do is say she would tell her manager of my concerns. I asked to cancel my order. She did, supposedly. She said I would get an email confirmation. I hung out for a few minutes waiting for it, it didn't come. She could not give me any confirmation my order was canceling. A couple hours go by and I get another email requesting the selfie photo, still no cancellation confirmation. I email back again and they do answer saying they don't know why I haven't gotten the cancellation email, they have forwarded to the IT. So, I call. I give the order number, tell her what has happened, that I was nervous and unhappy about the security issues and she literally could not have sounded less concerned. The rep can give me no confirmation number or anything regarding my cancellation. She says she doesn't know and IT will address the system issue. I told her I was not comfortable with the photo and all she did was read the email script to me. I asked what the initial problem was, it was that my IP address pinged from another state. I work in RI and live in MA. I said couldn't you have called and told me that and confirmed with me instead of asking for a photo of myself? Again repeated the script. I said I wanted confirmation it was cancelled within 30 minutes or I would file a BBB complaint. She said she had no guarantees it was up to IT. As of right now at 3:26pm I have no confirmation of an order or a cancellation I placed this morning, but there is still a charge on my card. Email, chat and called. I obviously can't show up at their Florida office myself which is what I think they are banking on! They know I can't and I'm a sitting duck at this point, they have my name, address, email and credit card number. Now they have my work phone number that I called from. I am pretty upset.

I think this is more a protect them than it is a protect you sort of policy.

They are reputable, but it is an out of the norm request. Not sure if I would do it or not. The only real harm is in the even of a hack, then it's one more thing scammers have out there to use against you. Not sure I'd want to give them that ammo. Handing over CC info and making a phone call should suffice.

so NO none of this was worth it to save a few dollars, their prices are within range for Parksavers, Official Ticket Center etc. It's not like these are super deals and I am again, pretty upset. Upset at myself because I seem to have fallen for a scam type operation and upset for following mousesaver recommendations.

Wonder if they outsource their phone support at times? Because there can be a very Jekyll and Hyde personality with their responses at times. Doesn't excuse it at all, just trying to figure out how they can be both very helpful and very iffy at the same times.

I will say the customer service I received after I refused to send my picture was very good and timely, I had an email response from them within 30 minutes and then my confirmation of purchase. I linked the tickets to my Disney experience that same hour and all is well. So sorry it did not work as well for you :(

Whatever they are, it's not a scam. That is for sure. They have faults, obviously. But they are not scamming you. And they do not have a scam type of operation.

right? they have my name and location. pretty easy to find a pic of me and shop a cc onto the image. even I can use canva adeptly!

You can always dispute the charge with your CC company.

I am totally OK with faults! Things do happen, but this ongoing thing since Thursday not yet being resolved and the disdain of the customer service reps...a little niceness can go a long way. Of course this is why I use my credit card and never debit for these sorts of purchases.

While the photo request is very strange, I just wanted to let you know that any time from any company, large and small, that I have requested a refund via a charge to be removed from my credit card, every single company told me it could take a few days to show up in my credit card account. It always has taken at least a couple days.

hi please read whole thread I did call them - also yes it would be creepy if the store I went to wanted to take my picture holding my card up and store it digitally. this is not the same as security surveillance either.

It would be creepy if the cashier took my picture while I was holding up the card. So, yes.

That's what is the most baffling of all. Clearly others have had the same issues, Not even just in this thread, read back years and you'll see it pops up every now and then. But it's really rare for them not to be resolved. It almost makes me wonder if all their regular folks go on vacation sometimes and then the fill in they use is seriously lacking. No idea, just grasping for what on earth explains the differences.

Hope things work out well for you!

I got flagged when I was shopping last Christmas from a company that seemed to offer their products in multiple countries (those adorable knitted mermaid blankets). About a day or two after I processed the order, I was flagged and they asked me to submit additional details (I think driver's license, etc). I didn't feel like I wanted to (although I understood why I got flagged) so I just ignored the email and then re-ordered the blanket from Amazon.

Go figure, several weeks later, I receive my Amazon order AND the identical product from the original company! On the good side, I had gotten them at a good enough price that it was super easy to resell for my cost locally. It was snapped up within hours. That said - in future, it would have been better for me to follow up to make sure my order is properly canceled.

While we are on the subject of cancellations, Disney once took about 2 billing cycles to refund my deposit for a canceled reservation! It was so annoying to have to keep remembering to watch for the refund in my CC bills.

this is all very concerning. I used UT tickets for our trip in january and didn't have any issues. I'm sorry that so many have been affected.

How much money does UCT actually save? I think I'd be inclined to evaluate risk vs. reward here. Its already established that with all of the different websites that cover certain parts of your SSN but not others, that its rather simple to piece together a complete SSN. I wouldn't be engaging in this activity to save a few bucks, personally, but to each his/her own.

Mine didn't get flagged for verification, but I'm traveling solo (well meeting friends down there but paying solo), and I just saved $50 on my 7 day Hopper. That's a pretty substantial savings, IMO, esp if one was buying for several people.
