Uber with luggage

I do the same with the three of us, but DW carries a suitcase the size of a small motor home, so we need the extra room!

OP, there is no telling what kind of vehicle you will get ordering X. You could get a small car, or an SUV. Most SUV drivers accept X rides at airports. Whatever you get, it will have to carry a driver + 4 passengers with seatbelts for all.

As soon as your ride is accepted, you will be able to see what kind of car is en route on your app. If the car type is sufficient, obviously no problem.

If it's something like a Prius or other very small car, you can cancel immediately without a cancellation fee. The key is to cancel immediately. The cancellation fee would be charged only if you wait two minutes before canceling. Canceling the ride will NOT hurt the driver who accepted your ride; they will remain at the top of the queue and will get the next ride.

Then wait a minute or two and request again.
This is so true. I will note, we just used X all week and every single trip the vehicle we got was an XL sized vehicle. I thought it was strange and each time I looked back at my app to make sure I hadn't switched car sizes but nope, I was on the smallest size but not once did I get a vehicle for 4, always got matched with something bigger. Not sure what was up, I guess there was just so many users/vehicles with the Holiday week. This was happening with both Lyft and Uber (I was using/checking both since it was so busy)

We've only had 1 issue where a vehicle we requested didn't fit, this was going to the airport. I requested XL (I always do when we have bags) and they've always fit but one trip we got a borderline vehicle and when he arrived he saw us and our bags and decided he couldn't get it all and said he'd cancel and we needed to enter another request.

I could be wrong, but I thought drivers with XL size vehicles often sign up for both X and XL. Or maybe that's just the case where I live.

Yes, that is correct. In fact, I think it is required for XL drivers to be signed up for X, and the same is true for Lyft Plus/Premium drivers.

Both companies allow drivers to drive XL Only or Plus/Premium only, but I drive all platforms most of the time just because there aren't that many higher platform rides.

Thanks for all the suggestions. We have only carryons and we are international so we can't use DME luggage services either way.
We will have two carry on suitcases, a weekender type bag and 3 backpacks so I think I will do what is suggested and order an X and cancel immediately if the car on the way will be too small. But I think that the weekender can fit on a lap, the 2 small suitcases in the trunk and the backpacks on laps/feet. It will be uncomfortable but I think that we will survive.
We have a short trip so I am trying to maximize time and I am concerned that we might have bad luck with DME and end up taking 2 hours to get to our resort. We have an early flight and are hoping to spend our first afternoon in the park to do a couple rides.
Hopefully it will work out :)

Because she values her time on vacation. Magical Express is slow, clunky and inefficient.
Not necessarily the fastest option (although I've had a couple of trips that were an hour or slightly less, starting with deplaning), but clunky? How? And it's ecologically efficient. Moreso in that it transports what would require at least ten cars. Yes, even accounting for the few electric vehicles.
Yes, you can cancel either company, but do it early so
Oh, great news! Thank you!

The more people needing DME at a given time, the faster each bus departs. With an early flight, I'd be shocked if it takes you even as long as 90 minutes from deplaning.

Oh ok, if it is only about 90 minutes perhaps it is the better option. Is there something for kids to do on the bus; for example do they play movies or music or something?

Yes - there's a video that plays to "introduce" you to WDW. Once that ends, there are cartoons that play.

Also... re the car seat - my conscience wouldn't let me rest unless I noted that although the laws in Florida don't require a seat for a six year old, the laws of physics don't change - even a large six year old should be using a booster. You could easily bring something like a Bubblebum, which is perfect since it travels compactly but will give your little guy enough of a boost for his seatbelt to fit properly. (I won't harp on it, but since you're coming from out of the country I wanted to make sure you were aware that the laws of the state don't really do a great job protecting young riders!) This would only be necessary in the Uber, not on DME.

My son is 6 and large for his age so I don't think that he will need a car seat. I think the age for carseats is 5 and under in Orlando?

He may not need an actual car seat, but he’d have to be an incredibly big 6 year old to not need a booster (regardless of what the law says). I’ve heard good things about the bubblebum inflatable seat.

Good to know! Thanks :)
