This is so true. I will note, we just used X all week and every single trip the vehicle we got was an XL sized vehicle. I thought it was strange and each time I looked back at my app to make sure I hadn't switched car sizes but nope, I was on the smallest size but not once did I get a vehicle for 4, always got matched with something bigger. Not sure what was up, I guess there was just so many users/vehicles with the Holiday week. This was happening with both Lyft and Uber (I was using/checking both since it was so busy)I do the same with the three of us, but DW carries a suitcase the size of a small motor home, so we need the extra room!
OP, there is no telling what kind of vehicle you will get ordering X. You could get a small car, or an SUV. Most SUV drivers accept X rides at airports. Whatever you get, it will have to carry a driver + 4 passengers with seatbelts for all.
As soon as your ride is accepted, you will be able to see what kind of car is en route on your app. If the car type is sufficient, obviously no problem.
If it's something like a Prius or other very small car, you can cancel immediately without a cancellation fee. The key is to cancel immediately. The cancellation fee would be charged only if you wait two minutes before canceling. Canceling the ride will NOT hurt the driver who accepted your ride; they will remain at the top of the queue and will get the next ride.
Then wait a minute or two and request again.
We've only had 1 issue where a vehicle we requested didn't fit, this was going to the airport. I requested XL (I always do when we have bags) and they've always fit but one trip we got a borderline vehicle and when he arrived he saw us and our bags and decided he couldn't get it all and said he'd cancel and we needed to enter another request.
