UBER vs Car Hire

I wonder if any one has any thoughts on whether care hire or UBER is the way to go for getting around.
We are a family of 6 and usually rent a car. With the extortionate prices for car hire and the car parking going up we were wondering if we might be better just travelling by UBER? We would need UBER XL and also wondered what the availability of these are like? We are staying in Windsor hills and would likely need 2 return trips out per day, one in the morning and one to return mid afternoon then probably another trip out at night.
Thanks for all your thoughts :)

I think you need to mentally add in the cost of getting to and from the airport. I don't think you are going to get 6 passengers plus luggage in 1 Uber XL.

You can download the app and look at it at different times to get a sense of pricing and availability. You would need to manually tell the app where you would want to be picked up, otherwise it will think you want to be picked up at your house (or wherever you are when you are looking at the app).

Most people also download the Lyft app and compare them before requesting a ride.

Uber XL should be readily available for the four trips per park day. That's not a problem.

Without calculating anything though I'm thinking a car rental would be cheaper. Did you pull any quotes?

This also assumes no one is in a car seat. If there's a car seat involved the rental car would be better, of course.

For your trip to/from the airport I would recommend booking a Mears van.. For all other trips (to the parks, etc.) you could use Uber, Lyft, or taxi cabs..

You need to figure out the round trip cost for each trip you need to make per day, multiplied by the number of days you will be there. I'm betting it very close to breaking even. I would rent a car with that many people and trips per day

Several comments:
  • First of all, Covid restrictions are no more than 5 passengers in an Uber XL, with no passenger in the front seat. We typically order XL for 3 with luggage. Four with luggage for a two week stay would be a real stretch, IMO. You are going to need at least 2 XLs.
  • There will be abundant XLs at MCO, and for your departure trip.
  • You can get general ballpark fare comparisons at RideGuru.com. A more accurate estimate would be to download the app, set MCO as your departure location, set your destination, and you'll get a quote. If you do that on the day and time of your anticipated need, the quote will be more accurate.
  • The suggestion of downloading both Uber and Lyft apps by @Best Aunt is a very good idea. Also, put both apps on multiple phones because you may get promotional offers on each.
