Uber now allows prescheduled rides

I just received notification from Uber that Orlando riders can now schedule a ride in advance. For info, go to this help.uber.com page.

The ETA window is 15 minutes, and the driver can arrive anytime within that.

A caveat is that the fare quoted at the time of the reservation may not be accurate, as surge may be in effect at the time of your ride, which can increase the fare to double or more of the estimate.

I guess I don't understand why you would preschedule? I have never waited more than 5 or 10 minutes for Lyft.

I saw that email. It didnt appear to be working yet in the rider app

I'd have the same question. What's the benefit of prescheduling it if you have to be in waiting for 15 minutes? When you order one on demand, you usually have a shorter wait than 15 minutes and you can see exactly where the car is to know how much time you have.

I can see using this strategy As a guaranteed ride. Only so many drivers out there on any given day.

In L.A. Uber can take some time to get to arrive @ some tourist areas (Knotts berry farm). Also, drivers don't necessarily want to go out of 'their' area i.e. A long haul. Yes, they have black & uber X but can be far pricer during non-peak times.

IMO it's Handy for when you are doing split trips and want to ensure a vehicle will be waiting for you and your luggage within a short window of time vs what could much longer due to traffic patterns.

Well, I've heard that some people like to plan and pre-arrange everything down to the smallest detail.

But of course, that wouldn't be anyone reading the DIS. ;)
