So....Disney is getting way too expensive. I can stay at Universal Cabana Bay (430 glorious square feet of space) for 7 nights, get 5 day tickets, buy 3 days tickets to WDW, all for the same price as 6 nights at POR and 6 day WDW tickets. Problem being transport to the Disney parks from Cabana Bay. I'm in need of some Uber/Lyft basics. Honestly, I've never done them before, but I'd like to try them at Disney rather than spending $700 for a 4 day van rental.

Here's the questions:
Where are the Pickup/DropOff points for MK, Epcot, and AK?
What's the timing needing to be like?
Do I schedule these way ahead of time?
With a family of 5, how pricey is that?

Any other tidbits you can share would be awesome.

I can help with a couple of these:
MK drop-off is at the TTC, or you can be dropped at the Contemporary and walk over.

I believe AK DHS, EP are all close to where the bus stops are, but I have not taken one to these parks personally.

Timing depends on how busy drivers are, but very similar to driving and definitely faster than busses.

With a family of 5 you'll need an Uber XL or Uber SUV

You request the ride when you are at the curb ready to be picked up. If you request the ride and aren't there when the vehicle shows up, the driver can leave and you get charged a no-show fee. Although the app might allow you to schedule a ride in advance, the word on the Transportation board is that you don't want to do this. A specific driver is not assigned ahead of time; the app puts out the word to drivers a little bit ahead of time, I believe -- and this makes the driver more likely to show up early, leave if you aren't at the curb, and charge you a no-show fee.

Download both the Uber and Lyft apps, and check both when you need a ride in case one will be faster or cheaper.

Both have different categories based on the size of the vehicle. You need to make sure you are requesting a vehicle which will be large enough for your group.

If you have Location Services set to ON in your phone's settings, the apps should know where you are when you request a ride. If you want to practice when you're home, you can set a pickup location other than where you actually are at that moment. So you can sit at home and practice setting up a ride between Cabana Bay and DHS.

Being dropped off at the Contemporary is generally only permitted if you are a guest of that resort or have a dining reservation there.

Isn't that for access to the parking lot though? Anybody can pull up to the front entrance...

No. The security booth and gate are at the entrance to the Contemporary property in general. You have to pass through it to get to either the front entrance or the parking lot.
