My husband and I are taking our 6 year old triplets to Typhoon Lagoon in May. We've been to the other parks before, but never a water park. I'd appreciate any information on Typhoon Lagoon as well as information on the swimming with the sharks experience. Thanks!

We went to both TL an BB in September, depends on how well your little ones can swim. Mine wouldn't go swimming w/ the sharks, but it was neat to go down below and see the fish and sharks swimming around. The water looked freezing cold too. Typhoon Lagoon was a family favourite, as we have four children 8,8,6,5...they really enjoyed the wave pool. There is also a neat spot at that park ( I think, ) where you have water fights and shoot eachother with really big water guns, hard to explain, but it was also a ton of fun. I think my family enjoyed the water parks more than the theme parks...not me, I am not a water person. But you will be really glad you went. There's a big beach there, and the sand gets SUPER DUPER BURNIN HOT.... it was when we were there. There's a really fun miniature water slide that goes right into the wave pool as well .... spent a lot of time there w/ 5 year old. The wave pool is just like a beach. HAVE FUN!!!! :cool1: :sunny

We enjoy going to Typhoon Lagoon. The shark swim is probably our favorite but the water is much colder than the rest of the park. It is one of the few areas they don't heat. It is probably better to do this early in the day due to crowds and bumping as well.

They do have alot of raft slides and seems to be pretty friendly to younger kids. They don't have that many thrill rides either.

The lazy river is also fun to go down but you can easily get lost if you aren't paying attention to where you get in.

Don't under estimate the power of the wave pool! Tosses the little ones around pretty good. But they love it!

A word of warning about the wave pool:

Some "bright spark" decided to make the shallow areas have a "rough" bottom - it's kinda gravely and scratchy, presumably for grip. Once you get past adult-waist height, this surface disappears and the floor becomes smooth.

The waves that the surf pool churns out are HUGE. They are more than capable of sweeping a grown adult off their feet. My sister, who was 10 at the time, wasn't paying enough attention and managed to get "slammed" by a wave when we were in the surf pool. We weren't deep, she just got knocked down by it, and the surface of the pool floor basically ripped off all the skin from her shoulder blade :crazy2:

She still has a large (2" square) scar to this day.

Since your kids will be little, this is something to look out for. They have two "wave" modes - MASSIVE waves every 90 seconds for half an hour, and then half an hour of "bobbing" waves, which are smaller and continual. This happened during the massive wave session.

If you're deep enough to be able to swim, another word of advice: As soon as you hear the wave (you'll hear it before you see it) swim like heck toward the shore. This way you "ride" the waves instead of getting tossed around by them.

Hope someone has a suggestion. On our family trip to DW I need some suggestions regarding TL. We plan on being in line when it opens in the morning and would like to head right to a spot to set up for the day. Ages of the children run from 16 months to 18 total group of 12. I am thinking of going to the left so we can be near the childrens area and the wave pool. Does anyone know of a good spot to camp out for the day?

we went to both TL and BB last trip, our's were 6 also. They much preferred BB. They were afraid to swim with the sharks because a) one of them saw the sting rays, b) you can't stop and put your feet down, you have to swim/float the whole time, and c) one of them didn't like the life vests they give you. They did like watching ds12 in the tank. They hated the wave pool because 2 of them got knocked down and got scrapped up on the bottom. They thought the kid's area was to babyish. Two of them were to short for the bigger slides. The only things they really did were the lazy river and the family raft ride.

Ours much preferred BB. They absolutely loved the Ski Patrol area. It has slides, a zip line, ice berg things they walk across the pool on, a raft ride, etc. The water wasn't even deep enough that they needed a life vest. They were still to short for some of the bigger slides, but they did the lazy river and family raft ride here also. They spent the entire day in Ski Patrol and pitched a fit when they had to leave. We ended up going back a second day. Next trip we'll still do both parks, since our tickets have unlimited visits, so ds12 can do some of the big-kid stuff in TL. We'll have at least 2 visits to BB to keep the younger ones happy.
