I am so sad! We're currently in the planning stages for our March 2007 WDW trip, and I just looked at the March park hours only to discover that Typhoon Lagoon will be closed while we're there. I had to break it to our daughters, who were so looking forward to spending the day in the wave pool again and riding the Crush'n Gusher slides. I think my husband and I are just as disappointed. We love TL...

So I guess we're going to be Blizzard Beach-bound. We have never been before. Can people who have visited BB please tell me what we should try to take in while we're there? It will be me, my DH, and our DDs ages 10 and 11.

Thanks so much,
MouseGirl

I'm really sorry to hear that. :guilty:
Looks like your loss is our gain. Disney originally had TL closing at the end of October and BB closing in the new year. They then swapped them round a few weeks later. Whilst it is a shame we can't now do BB, we prefer TL - so we are happy.
I hope you have lots of fun on your trip even without TL. :thumbsup2

Blizzard Beach is really fun and you'll have a great time! The theming is really different from TL, but very, very cool. In fact, we did both in one trip and liked BB better because it was much more original and clever in theming. Your children will be the perfect age for the pre-teen section (plus all of the regular slides) with the added bonus of the ski lift!

Its wonderful....and how fun that fate has pushed your into a new experience!

Looking at your kid's ages, I think they will like BB better than TL. My son is 12 and there is no question about it, he likes BB better. We usually get a locker over by the ski patrol (the preteen area). This is his last year to be able to use that area. We usually save the afternoon for him to do everything in ski patrol.

We actually have a touring plan for BB, if we get there at opening, we can usually cover all the major slides by between 11am - noon. Then we save the wave pool and ski patrol for after we've done everything else.

If it is of any help - these are the things we enjoyed at BB on one of our previous trips. You can still have a great time at BB - so all is not lost :goodvibes In fact we have friends who much prefer it to TL:
Cross Country Creek - similar to TL's Castaway Creek, but with the occasional chilled water waterfall ;)
Summit Plummet - similar to Humunga Kowabunga, though I'm sure I'll be flamed for such a comparison. Hang on to your cossie!
Runoff Rapids - flume ride but in tubes
Toboggan Racers - race the rest of the family on these side-by-side slides
Melt-Away Bay - pool fed by waterfalls - not as fun as TL's Surf Pool IMHO
Tike’s Peak - good for young kids
Ski Patrol Training Camp - good for older kids and young teens
Teamboat Springs - A family sized raft ride - great fun for all and something that you don't get at TL
Chair Lift - good views and easier than climbing the steps

After we finally tried BB, my girls had no desire to go back to TL. They escpecially enjoyed the Ski Patrol Training Camp section and the Toboggan racers. You'll have a great time. The layout of BB is much better and roomier.

I think your kids will like BB, there are more slides, a great kids area, and a family raft ride. That's my favorite. I like TL better, mainly because of the snow theme at BB. I hate looking at the fake snow, it makes me cold- guess it's mind over matter.

Thanks so much for your replies and the encouraging words, everyone. I know we'll have a good time at BB - I'll start planning a day there making sure to hit the highlights you have mentioned. And you're right, this is a chance to experience something new we haven't tried before at WDW. Since we love all things Disney, why should BB be any different?:)

Thanks again,
MouseGirl
