We are headed to WDW 10/1-8. We will be arriving very early on 10/1 and have one day water park passes with our package. We decided to go on arrival day. Which would you choose? Our kids are 11 and 9. They love thrills but we are also looking for a relaxing, fun way to start our trip. My kids love wave pools and I love just floating on the lazy river, but will also do fun slides. Husband will do anything. We are staying at POR and will likely use our own car to drive to the park if that makes any difference in time, etc.

TIA!

People will vary in opinion on which park.

We have been going to Typhoon Lagoon on our recent trips. The kids like the wave pool and Crushni' Gusher. I like to close out with Castaway Creek.

You will get more opinions on the Theme Park forum. There are usually a few threads on the water parks.

I agree with the
Previous poster. Both water parks are a lot of fun, but our kids and my wife and I fell in love with the huge wave pool at Typhoon Lagoon, and the other rides are very good there as well.

We're Blizzard Beach folks but both parks are great. I just have an affinity for the lazy river and the music at BB....other than that, I'd say rock, paper, scissors for it and go! Have fun!

BB for many reasons but for your kids check out pictures of the Ski Patrol area.

I feel like BB might be more your style then.

BB has better thrill rides, a milder wave pool, and nice lazy river.
Typhoon Lagoon is our favorite. Its great for relaxing & Crush ‘n’ Gusher is amazing!

We enjoyed both. Something about Blizzard Beach made us "feel" cooler in the July heat. Totally psychological. I will suggest those little fried donuts. I think they are available at both parks.

Not sure if it matters, but something about the steps at Typhoon Lagoon made it easier for me to climb. I had just had knee surgery and attended both parks in a knee brace. But somehow, Typhoon Lagoon was an easier day for me.

You'll get such a wide variety of answers, because both parks are great and offer different things. We're big fans of both and go to both often. Our kids are 12, 9, and 9 (twins). From your description, I'd probably go with Typhoon Lagoon.

BB is a great park, but your kids are just getting to the age where they'll be too old for the Ski Patrol area. The 9 year old will enjoy, but is at the upper end of age range really. It does have really cool slides like Summit Plummet and Slush Gusher.

However, TL sounds more your style. It has Humunga Kowabunga and Crush N Gusher for the thrill seeking rides. The wave pool is like nothing you've ever seen. The waves are incredibly powerful...make sure your kids are good swimmers. They'll have a blast in it. My kids can't get enough of it. Be forewarned, the bottom surface is a bit rough...I scraped my knee playing with my kids 7 weeks ago and still have a healing scar. It has several other more moderate slides and tube rides. Shark Reef is really cool, it's a very short snorkeling adventure where you get up close with a lot of fish and a few sharks. The water is freezing cold. TL also has a really relaxing lazy river. It's really long and slow flowing.

We like TL but to be fair, we haven't gone to BB in years. We are also in our 70s (early 70s thank you very much) and the slides don't appeal to me very much any more.

Thanks for all the feedback! We considered everything and looked at some YouTube videos and think Typhoon Lagoon may be more our speed. We are looking forward to checking it out!

That's a tough one since the Summit Plummet is our right of passage and the wave pool is an addiction.

BB vs. TL question:
Why oh why do they refurb BB in the fall, when everyone is tired of hot weather and hurricanes, then open BB in the winter when all us northerners are sick of cold and snow and flock south for a warm respite??? I want to go to a water park in February and I don't want blizzards there!!!

Ok, kinda joking here but kinda not....

I feel like TL has a much more relaxed, tropical feel. It's my family's first choice. The lazy river is great! But, we are from Colorado so the ski lift theme doesn't really appeal to us on vacation. I hope you have a great time no matter what you choose!

I get it as a joke, but as a kinda not joke, I don't see it. I'm originally from the northeast, have weathered countless blizzards. The theming of a blizzard is fun to me. It doesn't actually change the weather in Orlando, nor the temps of the water there. There's no real snow, no real ice (unless it's in my drink), no salt on the roads. It's all good.

I think they alternate parks to close for refurb each winter, but I'm not 100% sure on that.
