We are going next week to WDW. Our six year -old is a very good swimmer and wants to go to a water park. Which one is better for her age? Do they have height requirements on some of the water slides? DD is a thrill seeker but she's in the short range.

Thanks for any input! :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

I've never been to Blizzard Beach, but I loved Typhoon Lagoon, and I am pretty sure that it is more geared toward little ones than Blizzard Beach. I think Blizzard Beach has more of the very steep long slides than Typhoon Lagoon. There was definitely a children's area at Typhoon Lagoon and also family tube rides.

DD's 7 and 9 LOVED TL and rode EVERYTHING there!!! DD7 is not your natural born thrill seeker and she tried it all, although she's not planning on doing a couple of the straight down body slides again next year..didn't like the wedgies!

Both girls really liked the shark reef - very exciting to them to snorkle! We got there early and did this first thing many times with no rush or wait. The vests they give you are for warmth - not life vests. We requested a life vest for DD7 and she was more comfortable floating around and could focus on her snorkling!

We liked the atmosphere - very tropical and shady. Lots of fun for the whole family. Don't forget water shoes and a waterproof camera no matter which park you choose! Have FUN!

hi there,

My son , who was 6 on our last visit, much preferes TL to BB, there is more for him to do there really, the rides are a little too scary for him at BB, plus he moaned at having to walk more between locations in the baking heat at BB.

I thought he would like the kids area more at BB, but no, he had a fantastic time at the TL one, even though we were the first to find a hidden large egg at the kids area in BB , in a treasure hunt game they were trying out at the time, funny later they asked me if I thought the hunt was a good idea....

ofcourse I did, we won !!!!! ( a lolly each, a toy plastic ice gator and a cup ).

I'm sure you'll enjoy both locations.
( remember they close seasonally , one at a time for a couple of months)

oooooops

just re-read your post, and see you're going next week, you wont have to worry about either being closed then as it is diffinately not winter!.........soorrrrrrry

( I'm sleepy, what can I say?????)

I think the ambience and general feel of TL is much better. We have liked it and all three of our kids had a blast there this past fall, ages 2, 5 and 8.

Enjoy!

Maybe I'll see ya at TL next week!!! If you see a woman w/ longish straight brown hair (most likely in a ponytail) w/ a hot pink flowered top/black short bottom bathing suit, it just might be me! Right now the plan is to go Monday 5/24 and either Wed 5/26 or Thurs 5/27 (or maybe all three if it is extremely hot and we have enough fun!).

TL for us. We love the wave pool and the theme.

We like both, but Typhoon Lagoon always wins out if we can only do one. I love the lazy river, shark reef and the tropical atmosphere.

We haven't gone to TL, but it looks great and we definitely will go one day.

However, I will not set foot in the state of Florida without going to BB. Summit Plummet is the real deal. The 48" ht requ may hurt you, but there are other great slides. If she is a thrill seeker, she may prefer BB. My DD8 and DS6 loved EVERYTHING about the park, from the slides to the Ski Patrol Training Area.

Regardless of which you choose, I recommend getting there early!

I have to vote for BB - and I never thought I would ever, ever say that. We had been to TL 3 times and I just wanted to go back. Kids loved it. On the boards I was getting so many different opinions that I just couldn't decide. Then a friend showed me her pictures and I decided to take the chance.

It was fabulous.

Last year when we went, my girls were 7 and 10. There's a section just for 5-10 (or is is 6-12) year olds. It was great. We parked our stuff there and there was a pool, kid-sized body slides and tube slides, and ice bergs to walk on while clinging to netting. And I could sit and watch - it's all contained and open that you can see them. They had such a good time.

The family raft ride is excellent and long (the one at TL is very, very short). The steps are long to get there, but worth it and after we did it once, my kids couldn't wait to do it again (no complaining about steps).

The other water ride they have that won me over was one where there are 6 slides side-by-side (like you do at a fun park where you sit in a burlap bag and go down a slide) - only you are sliding on a mat on your belly. Our family lined up so that we could go together. We had so much fun seeing who would win.

TL is great too, don't get me wrong, whichever you pick, you'll love, but I think BB just has more to offer a 6 yr. old. She's too old for the kiddie section, and the older kid's section is perfect for her.

Have fun,

Cutekatcar

We prefer TL mainly because of the setting. Living in New England, the snow theme at BB does nothing for us. But the family raft at BB is much better than the family raft at TL. At TL we love the lazy river, the wave pool and the storm slides. We never miss going to TL on our trips!

I am sure you will enjoy either one though! You can't go wrong at Disney!!:hyper:

Thanks for all the input! I checked out the height requirements and DD is too short for several of the slides at BB. I had to explain that to her. (LOts of tears, but it saves us a miserable time at the water park if she knows ahead of time she can't ride them. ) We may have to try one this trip and another the next time. I can't wait- WE leave tommorrow!
