Typhoon Lagoon or Blizzard Beach

DD 5 and seven loved the wave pool at TL. There was a small slide near there they could both ride. Never been to BB.

For your situation, people will probably vote for TL. Just make sure it is open when you are in WDW. If it is not open, you will still have plenty of appropriate activities to do at Blizzard Beach. Have fun!

We have been to TL twice. Never been to BB, though we would like to sometime. TL does seem to have things geared more towards younger kids than BB. Our kids are 13 and 11 and loved it. They had never been to a waterpark before. As long as you stay close by, your child will be fine and can ride and do many things there.

TL all the way! It is geared more for younger children and more relaxing for adults too. Besides the beautiful landscaping, it also has much more shade, which really cuts down on hot feet while running around the park. This has been my family's favorite for as long as I can remember! Have a blast! :cool1:

Wow, I was just about to ask the same thing. DD 6 wants to go to BB but she's not that good of a swimmer. DH and I are fine swimmers but kind of chicken never having been to a water park. DD 16 probably will complain where ever we go. I'm thinking TL sounds good for us.

Both parks have special areas for children Here is the official Disney description of the Blizzard Beach area called Tikes peak:

Little kids are invited to have mountains of fun in this water play area. The youngest Blizzard Beach goers can slide, splash and swim while sunning in the "snow" in this spot reserved just for them. Gentle body slides, an inner tube slide, interactive fountains, pop jets and a wading pool ensure a chillin' good time.

Heres the Typhoon Lagoon Area called Ketchakiddee Creek:

Romp on sloshy slides, fun-filled fountains, watery whales, slippery seals, an interactive lushly leaking tugboat and a mini ripply-rapids ride. Little squirts love the adventures that are just their size in this children's water play area. It's a little wateropolis of splashy fun!

Both Areas are recommended for Preschoolers but they may be perfect for your kids, and, Dzorn is right. kids do love the wave pool at Typhoon Lagoon.

I myself prefer the kids area at Blizzard beach. They seem to have a few more activities but the children at both these areas can be very young :)

I also vote for TL. We went there last time and my DD6, who can swim, loved it. The family thought it was the best day of the whole trip.

Life jackets are available, to borrow, at both parks. I would highly recommend it even for a young child who can swim. The kids will enjoy bobbing around in the wave pool and you won't be worrying.

I've been to both and they are both excellent. Personally for my taste I like BB more. But for you, TL probably would be better.

I think BB is best for 5yo. They have the Tykes area, the lazy river is larger (to go with parent) and the icebergs are fun (and moms and dads can watch with a close eye).

Additional question....

Are the crowds the same at both? More specifically, are they packed right now (or through 1st week of Aug) to point of being not enjoyable?

another vote for BB. My dd's were 6 last trip and they hated the wave pool at TL. They aren't strong swimmers and, after getting knocked down several times and getting scraped up on the bottom, they refused to get in the wave pool. They said the kid's area was "for babies", it's really designed for preschoolers. They were bored with the lazy river, they wanted to get out of the tubes and run thru the water. After hearing the word "shark", they refused to get in the shark pool. They loved BB! They could of spent the entire day in Ski Patrol. Tyke's peak was more for preschoolers. They loved the family raft ride, it's longer then TL's. The water in the kid's area isn't deep. My smaller dd was just barely 44" and had no problems standing in the water. The only deeper water is in the zip line ride.

Every single time I've been at WDW, BB closed every day due to maxing its attendance limits. People who wanted to go to a waterpark were advised to go to TL or to wait until around 2pm or so when BB would reopen. We've gone in the months of June, July, and August.

I think either would be fine but if you decide to do TL be careful in the wave pool as the waves can be pretty big and I saw a lot of little guys get knocked over and scraped up. My DS7 got several scrapes on his back and he is a good swimmer. The wave just caught him off guard.

I'd agree tl for little one and BB for older visitors. The slide at BB are great kids love them but the are steep and fast.
