Typhoon Lagoon help

We are going to the water parks this time and Typhoon Lagoon is the one we have chosen, can anyone give me some tips? Can I take food in this park as I can in the other Disney parks? Where's the best place to sit? How much is it to rent the snorkeling stuff and/or can I bring it from home? I have an 8 year old who isn't that strong of a swimmer what should I be concerned about? What are the must do's at this park? Thanks

You do not have to rent the snorkel gear for Shark reef- it is free. Sit in front of the wave pool. If your 8 yr old is not a strong swimmer keep an eye on him when the waves roll in- very strong! You can bring a full cooler in with you, just no alcohol. If you have done the family raft ride at BB then you will find this one not nearly as good. The other tube rides are excellent though.

At the times when the large waves are made, watch your child. They are huge compared to just the choppy ones.

Pick a chair or chairs near a landmark. We spent 30 minutes looking for our stuff, since we weren't sure exzctly where we put everything.

on the top right side of the wave pool just above the bridge is a cabana right on the lazy river. It is by somewhat by itself and a great location. You can see 2 yellow tubes in the water right next to the location of the cabana.

Are the cabanas something you pay for or are they first come first served? My mom and the sun do not get along. She gets dangerously overheated quickly. If I could arange for a cabana, she might just make it through the day. That is if she will ever come out of the river.

The cabanas are first come first served, no fees. My entire family cannot take the sun for too long, so the cabana was important. We were there at rope drop and I walked with DD directly to the cabana. No problem securing it (August, '04).

We were there last Saturday and had a blast. But if you want a shady spot make sure you are there at opening. TL doesn't have nearly as much shade as BB IMO.

The area in front of the new Crush N Gusher seems like a good place to go as well. The Crush n Gusher isn't officially on the map yet so maybe folks don't know it's there! There's a beach area roped off in front of the exit for the ride where you can swim. (BTW - the Crush N Gusher is GREAT!)

You can borrow a life vest for the day if you think your child needs one - I think you put a refundable deposit down and they can use it everywhere.

Nobody seems to have mentioned it, but we have found that if you go during the hotter times of year, which, of course, can be most times, and you have sensitive feet, wear some sort of rubber shoes or swim footwear as the concrete walkways can be extremely hot.

Good point! I wear them even when it's not hot because my feet get rubbed raw by the non-slip surfaces.

thank you so much for all of your replies, i can't wait to get there
