I have never done the Shark Reef at Typhoon Lagoon and I wanted to check it out on my next trip. Can anyone help me with some info on how crowded it gets and is it worth the wait?
Was going to hit TL after a half day at AK. Thanks

It really depends what time of year you are going. It is a unheated salt-water experience so during the late fall and winter months the water is not comfortable or refreshing so there is almost no wait. However this is one of TL's most popular attractions and during the summer months the line can get pretty long. It is a fun experience and is worth the wait. One tip once you are in the water don't hurry through if at all possible, there is no time limit on how long you stay in there you just have to go towards the exit so swim slow and enjoy!!

You HAVE to do this. It's an amazing experience!

I've only done it once...but will be doing it on my next trip!

My advice:
Get to shark reef as soon as the park opens. It does and will get crowded as the day goes on.
You get some snorkel gear and then hear a little spiel about what's going to happen and then you get in the water and float on your stomach until a lifegard taps you on your back signaling that you can go. You cannot use your legs to swim while in the water. Only your hands. The things you see are truly amazing. The water is FREEZING but lucky for me I love cold water. But this experience is one you must do when visiting TL...also remember take your time and go slow. The first time I went I swam very fast without realizing it and didn't see everything I could have seen.
So point is DO IT

I love the Shark Reef but the water is cold. I have snorkelled in Hawaii and the Caribbean and just can't get enough of it. Does anyone know how cold the water might be the first week of October? :fish: :fish: :fish:

well i wish i could help but i went to disney with a grop and they decided to go shoppping b4 we hit the park and we got to TL at 6:30 and it closes at 7:00 but i heard the crush 'n' gusher is good

No, it's included in yout ticket. My DH the water man( fishing, surfing, etc) loves it!

Thanks so much.

We love Shark Reef and do it at least once each visit to TL. It is coldddddd! Last Sept., my princess: DD6 was all for it but chickened out at the last minute since she didn't know how to use the snorkel. This time she's already practicing the snorkel in the tub (we don't have a pool :confused3 ) and so I think she'll be ready to do it.

Do it-it's great! And how often do you get to swim with the sharks? :goodvibes

We are going to try TL for the first time in 3 weeks. Can someone tell me what exactly is this?

We enjoy doing Shark Reef. We try to get there early to avoid some of the crowds but usually find the cold water to be nicer in the middle of the afternoon when it is hot.

The Shark reef is an unheated saltwater experience where you snorkel with tropical fish manta rays (stingers are removed) and bonnet head (smaller version of hammer head) and leopard (smaller version or tiger) sharks. it is 10 ft deep, and all gear needed is provided.

DS and I were in Shark Reef Nov.14,2005. I did not find the water cold, outside temp was about 75. We are Canadian though, use to the igloo and all. ;)
We were at the front of the line when they had to clean snorkles and masks and had to wait about 10 minutes. CM asked DS his name and age, and when we exited they gave him a certificate with his info. and great photo about how he survived swimming with the Sharks. :cloud9:
Plan to do it again in 2 weeks!

My DH and DS did it last time and can't wait to do it again in September. DS actually did it over four times in a row because he enjoyed it so much. I think I may actually brave the water this trip and join them.
