At Typhoon Lagoon today and our cabana attendant informed us that Disney is planning on having both Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach open at the same time again starting in 2025. She of course said this is the “plan”. We all know with Disney how plans can change but it’s good to know they are aiming at making this a thing again.

I am just wondering if there are any updates regarding the water parks. Or, if they alternate, does anyone know which one is scheduled to be open in June 2025?

Well let's hope so...it's only been half a decade 🙄 Thanks for passing along what you heard. Fingers crossed.

Makes sense with the new perk that you can go to a water park for free on your check in day in 2025. Obviously a ton of people will not take advantage of that, but even if a small percentage did I'd imagine that could really overwhelm a single water park during peak summer months.

It is time! I bet it will be a hit and they can make it work....

Disney should have never gotten rid of the championship golf courses either, but here we are....

As populations age Disney would be wise to pursue a wider customer strategy, yes there are a lot of kids out there, but a lot of non-kids too.... They'd be wise to figure out how to tap into that market even more so....

Well, if they follow the schedule of the past couple years, TL will be open in June. But hopefully the rumor is accurate and it will be both parks

I’d bet against it. The summer season is likely the most profitable for Disney, and that’s primarily because only one park is open. E.g. the cheap annual pass morphed into a cheap seasonal pass that ‘s good all year sans summer. I’d make an educated guess that the summer is the only time of year WDW sells significant numbers of one day passes… the rest of the year is likely mostly seasonal pass and water park & more redemptions.

Gotta remember… when BB opened, most hotels had basic poole. Today, the deluxe Disney properties and most of the premium hotels/ resorts surrounding WDW have elaborate pool complexes. Maybe not as elaborate as water parks, but still satisfactory. Hence why when WDW now operates direct busses into the water parks… it’s only moderate and value — not a lot of traffic from deluxe.

The water parks likely generate little profit, given that Disney has made little investment in them through the years. You local waterpark may lack the theming, but has far more modern thrill rides kids enjoy. The two companies that were responsible for designing TL and BB (with Disney Imagineering)… designed your local park as well.

A cabana attendant ?
I think a BUS DRIVER would be more reliable. 🤣😲🚌

I don’t believe anything has been announced. Makes me think they will not be doing this.

Maybe they should close typhoon lagoon permanently and go to one park if they aren’t going to make this work.

I think most pools at Disney are awful. I’ve never seen a Disney pool that wasn’t at least 40 percent too small….

I had long assumed that was purposely the case because of the water parks.

I really wouldn’t be surprised to see one of the two parks close permanently. My guess would be BB… TL is the only park they’ve added meaningful additions to, generally has the longer operating season and is typically the only one open late. I suspect it has a higher capacity. BB site is better for replacement. Who knows, maybe they’ll train amusements of it and turn it into a DVC resort.

In 2019 these two were the the second and third most-attended water parks in the world--behind only one in China. I don't see any reason why that couldn't be true again, so permanent closure seems....unlikely.

Attendance is completely meaningless. What matters is revenue. The water parks are the only aspect of WDW that are cheaper today (inflation adjusted) than in the past. Volcano Bay may have lower attendance but it doesn’t have the discounts TL/BB does. TL/BB have a seasonal pass (the entire year sans summer) that’s basically a day’s admission, cheap AP add-on, cheap FL resident passes, etc.

Water parks are expensive to maintain. Keeping two parks when only one at a time is open makes little financial sense. WDW really needs to invest in updating one of the two parks, then close the other, but it probably won’t happen because it’ll be a poor return on investment.

I would like to see both reopen, and if they aren't willing to do that, then just close one and go down to one park...

Having people have to figure out which park is open when seems confusing....

Disney pools are rather mediocre, and I assume it is because they want people spending time in the theme parks and water parks... and perhaps the golf courses, though they got rid of the good ones years ago...

With the exception of the Value Resorts (excluding AOA perhaps), Disney’s pools aren’t mediocre. They’re far more elaborate than they were in the 1990/s (for example, Contemporary had a very basic pool until 2002), when TL (well, 89) and BB were built. It’s just that in very recent years, many WDW-area hotels have built far more elaborate pool complexes.

I would handily bet there are fewer people paying full day admission to BB and TL today vs. the 1990s. Largely because they’re paying a ton of money for their hotel and find the pools sufficient.

I can recall when BB, TL and River Country reached capacity… And despite exponential growth at WDW, only one park is open at any given time. Disney started upgrading its hotel pools in the late 90s/ early 00s. We stayed at the Contemporary during peak summer 2001 - the main pool was closed for reimagining but we could access River Country for free (or pool hoop, which was allowed those days). It was dead… despite some cheap ticket offers. So, it happened fairly quickly.

A couple attractions were added to TL (and Shark Reef removed), but little else has changed (I haven’t been to TL since 2007 - they still play The Beach Boys?). Most local water parks have invested in far more thrilling water slides. Not surprised people avoid Disney.

I think we will just have to disagree... I think compared to several off-property options and other hotel resorts in Florida, for the price you are paying for Disney Deluxe, the pools are quite lacking...

The GF charging $1,000 a night, and the pools are small - not very big. One slide... Compare that to say the pools at Hyatt Bonita Springs, which is usually much cheaper per night... Just saying, most are not booking Disney Deluxe for the pools...

I would actually say the cheaper hotels have a better pool experience, because, their pricing is more in line with off property options that have small, basic pools (think Hyatt Place, Residence Inn, Hampton Inn types of properties) - at Disney at least they are big pools, and kind of fun shapes like the Piano pool for example...

Numerous WDW-area hotels have invested in their pool complexes. Several have mini water parks - and Margarittaville has a full water park (that’s highly visible from various points on WDW property). But they did this to attract people to their property.

But Disney doesn’t have to build elaborate pool complexes. They could add a basic motel-style hotel (even more basic than the value resorts), hang pictures of Bob Iger’s butt, toss in a few Mickey’s… and people would still pay a premium to be in the Disney Bubble.

The pools at the deluxe hotels may not be the best but they’re above average. When Disney runs direct busses to the water parks, its moderates and values only - likely because few people staying at the deluxe hotels go to the water parks. It was rumored for awhile that free admission to the water parks would be offered as a perk to deluxe guests.

The pools at the value resorts are the exception - very basic although some minor theming. On the plus side, they now feature the same entertainment program (with some adjustments) as the other properties.

I hope that's true. I was dismayed to see the offer of free entry into water parks on arrive day. The water parks were packed enough in back in 2022, even more guests would make it not worth our time visiting. Two open would make us so happy, spreading the guests out a little, and two parks to visit in one trip :)
