Two's a Party, Let's Hope Four's not a Crowd- Update 11/15 FINALLY!

I love Halie's reaction to the gifts in the drawer!! How magical!!!!!!!!

I always try to stay awake to chat for awhile when Brian drives at night, but as soon as I start driving, he is snoring before I can even buckle up!

Love your trip report... Can't wait for more! Halie is adorable, she's got the best smile. :)

After Halie got her gift from Tinkerbell we all changed in to our swimsuits and headed to the beach. First, we stopped at the front desk to pick up our chairs and umbrella. A while back I saw that a DIS member had organized a chair swap at Vero Beach. For around $10 each or something like that a bunch of us bought two really nice beach chairs and an umbrella. We went down to the front desk and inquired about the chair swap and the lady called someone on the phone. She said, “Some of those chair people are here.”

Some of those chair people? Is that like water park people? Oh well, bring on the chairs! I go over to their storage room and they bring out these really nice chairs that you can wear like backpacks. My brother stops at the gift shop to get some beer and then we head to the beach.

As soon as Halie’s feet hit the sand she was screaming with joy. “This is the best day of my life!!!!” There were shells everywhere. This little girl loves shells. We camp at El Dorado Lake. It’s a dirty lake here in Kansas. Halie collects shells that she finds in the mud there. Little dirty ugly shells. She couldn’t believe the beautiful shells they had here, and they were EVERYWHERE. She was in heaven.

Here is one video clip that I had on my camera. I have more from my video camera that I'll post later.

We set up our chairs on down the beach a little ways.
P6200046.jpg

Halie had a great time with her new sand toys and finding seashells. It was one of the best moments of the trip for me to sit in my nice reclining chair and listen to her exclaim over each and every shell.

P6200045.jpg

As usual for me, I got a horrible stomachache and had to go back to the room. One thing about the beach, no restrooms nearby. And the resort is quite a walk as well. I was practically running to get to the room. While in the room I called my mom to tell her how much Halie was loving the beach. I also grabbed my video camera to capture more footage of Halie’s excitement.

Before I went back down, I took a picture of Rob sitting down on the beach.
P6200054.jpg

When I got back to the beach Halie and Chad were gone. Rob said they had gone down the beach looking for shells. I thought at the time that this wasn’t good because I had told Halie she could only take one bucket of shells home. If she was already scouring the whole beach for shells we might have trouble later enforcing the one bucket rule. Rob and I did enjoy the time alone though. We hung out in our nice chairs and walked up and down the beach together.

P6200055.jpg

P6200056.jpg

When Halie and Chad returned her bucket was completely full of shells. Chad said he had even been diving into the water to get bigger shells. He was the only crazy one to get in the water that night. It was pretty chilly. Well, I told Halie she could only have one bucket. She said she just wanted the shells she had and wouldn’t want anymore the next two days. Yeah right. Chad told her to leave the ones she had found and they’d find more tomorrow. Prepare for total meltdown.

Halie threw herself on the sand and started bawling. Uh oh. This isn’t pretty. Rob was pissed. He just can’t deal with this kind of stuff. I told Halie she could keep the shells she had found, but that was absolutely it. She couldn’t get anymore tomorrow or the next day. She promised that she wouldn’t beg for shells anymore. She loved the ones she had and that’s all she needed. We packed up our stuff and went towards the resort. We stopped at the shower and tried to get all of the sand off of us. Wasn’t happening. We decided to take a dip in the pool to rinse off a bit.

We got over to the pool and prepared to get in. You know how you dip a toe in all scared that it’s going to be freezing cold? I dipped my toe in and felt bathwater. Yep, this was the warmest pool ever. We all loved it! I could have stayed in there forever. I really like a nice warm pool. They kept that baby at a perfect temperature.

We swam for about 20 minutes. Halie whined a lot. I knew it was getting close to bedtime for sure. This is the best picture I have of the pool that night.

P6200059.jpg

We got back to the room and cleaned up really fast so we could go to Wal-Mart. While I waited on the boys to get dressed I took a picture of the ocean with the glow of the setting sun.

P6200064.jpg

P6200065.jpg

Chad got sand all over the floor of the bathroom! Luckily we were staying at DVC so we had a broom. Apparently his swim trunks were full of sand even after swimming in the pool. Thank goodness we swam in the pool, I can’t imagine how much sand it would have been.

On our way out to Wal-Mart, Halie spotted a Hidden Mickey in a tree in the lobby.
P6200067.jpg

We also stopped in to the gift shop and rented Monster’s Inc to watch that night. Chad protested slightly about getting it. He said he watched it every night for a year when Halie was about two years old. It was her favorite. It reminded me of her 2nd birthday when she would go “rarrrrr, Monster” at everyone.

Chad’s handy girlfriend led us straight to Wal-Mart. While there we got some necessities like bottled water and beach snacks. Chad and Halie got some water shoes. We also got some toiletries that we hadn’t packed to save space like shampoo and hairspray and some breakfast foods. Chad went all crazy and bought a fishing pole, some frozen shrimp to fish with, and a snorkel. That boy. I told him we only had one full day at Vero Beach and one morning, but he didn’t care. My brother isn’t the best at budgeting.

After we left Wal-Mart we were starving. We found a nearby McDonalds and went in to eat. It was pretty dirty in there. Oh well. After we ate, Chad’s GF led us back to the resort. When we got back to the resort I went on the balcony and saw the beautiful moon shining on the water.

P6200069.jpg

Chad tried on his new snorkel.

P6200071.jpg

Then we settle in to bed and watched Monster’s Inc. Well, I think Rob watched Monster’s Inc. The rest of us were out within 30 minutes or so. This is when we discovered that Chad snores. Big time. Rob was getting so annoyed. Thank god we had enough banked points to get the 1 bedroom villa at OKW. No way could we have handled a week of his snoring.

P6200072.jpg

Up next: “She came! She came! Tinkerbell came again!” Halie shouts.

I have to admit, I share Halie's love for shells. I was like a little kid when my then boyfriend took me to Amelia Island. They were everywhere! I can't wait to hear more.

That is an awesome video!! That's something you're always going to cherish and she'll love watching it when she's older! How sweet!!

That's one handsome husband you have!

I feel your pain on the bathroom situation. :sad2:

Too funny that your brother bought all that equipment for one day! Sounds like something my brother would do. However, my brother does still wear that rediculous Goofy hat he bought at Disney. He even wore it to our family reunion yesterday!

You should try going to Vero Beach then, hoestly there were shells everywhere!!! Where is Amelia Island?

I love that video. I'm really kicking myself for not having the video camera down there when she first got on the beach. It was so fun to see her on the beach for the first time.

My brother has a tendency to waste money. When we took him to Vegas we had to buy his meals the last day. On this trip I ended up buying him a lot of stuff too. He just buys things that he doesn't need.

I'm joining in to read about your trip! :) I'll get all caught up later this morning, but I'm here now!

Yesterday we had looked at the activity schedule for Eb & Flo’s and seen that there was a free bead craft at 9:00. Halie and I decided to do that so we got up at 8:30. At first she didn’t want to get up, then I reminded her of Tinkerbell. She leaped out of bed and ran for the drawer. “She came she came!!!!” Tinkerbell had left some princess dive sticks for Halie to use in the pool. Awesome! Aunt Krista loves to dive for dive sticks. How convenient Tink!

We grabbed some muffins, pop tarts and bottled water and went out on the balcony to eat breakfast.

P6200076.jpg

After we ate we went inside and I woke up Chad. He had wanted to go fishing first thing in the morning. He was almost as excited as Halie to be at the ocean. I’ve never seen my brother so excited before. He was so hype with his new snorkel and fishing pole. I knew he was going to have a fun day! While I was getting ready Halie was writing something. I didn’t know what she was doing. When I was done getting ready I looked at what she was doing and saw she had written a letter to Tinkerbell. Precious!!!!

P6200077-1.jpg

Translation:

Dear Tinkerbell,

Will you get me a bucket and a real pearl in a clam. (Picture of Mickey or Minnie and Tinkerbell)

Best Friends Forever

From: Halie May
To: Tinkerbell

I had to break it to her that Tinkerbell doesn’t always take requests, but that I’m sure she would do her best. I knew right then that I should get her one of those pick a pearl clam things, but I never did. I suck I know. Hopefully she forgot about asking Tink for this stuff, though she did talk about clams the whole trip. I really just wanted my brother to buy one for her, but he never would. I can’t do everything you know. Okay, off my tangent and back to the report.

Halie and I headed to Eb & Flo’s to make our bead craft. But first a picture on the way to the lobby.

P6200078.jpg

When we arrived there were only 4 other people there. The CM, a mom and her daughter and a tween girl. I got Halie started then went to go sign her up for the other activities for that day. There were three activities that she was interested in so I went ahead and signed her up for all of them. They said that if she didn’t go to one, just come back and get a refund. I signed her up for making a seashell bag, Seaside Chefs, and mug craft. I believe they were $3, $6, and $6 respectively.

After I doled out some money to sign her up I went back to make my own bead craft. I made a pink and white ankle bracelet and a keychain for the rental car keys. Halie made a necklace with red and glow in the dark beads that had waaaaaaay too many beads on it and a keychain for her dad. It was pretty fun. I know they do these types of things at the WDW DVC resorts, but I don’t think I would be able to slow down enough while at WDW to do things like this. That’s why having this day at Vero was great. We weren’t missing out on anything else while doing this. We were free to do whatever.

The other people at the craft were really nice. The lady with her daughter told me she was a single mother with two kids that loved to travel. She listed tons of places she had taken her kids. Even the DCL! What a great mom. The tween girl was just adorable. She was very talkative and told me all about having DVC and how great it is.

When we were done beading we decided to go see how Chad’s fishing was going. I figured he hadn’t caught anything.

We get down to the beach and Chad says he has caught 4 fish already!!! He showed me pictures on his phone. Awesome!!! While we were down there for a few minutes watching, he caught another fish! I don’t have pictures because I was videotaping. I’d share, but of course, I lost the stinking cord. If I don’t find it tomorrow, I’m buying a new one.

Halie gazing at something on the beach
P6200084.jpg

After we watched Chad fish for a while I told Halie we needed to go to the room to get our beach stuff so we’d be ready to go after her shell bag was done. So we went up to the room and told Rob to get around and come to the beach with us. He said he’d come later. We got the stuff together and I took Halie to E&F to make the shell bag. This time there were a lot of kids there. Most kids had been dropped off so I decided to do the same. I told Halie I would be going to the beach to drop the stuff off and not to leave E&F until I returned.

Then I made the long walk to the spot where Chad was fishing on the beach. Everything at Vero is a bit of a walk. I didn’t mind it too much, but I just wanted to point it out to you all who might be considering going there. I dropped off the beach bag and told Chad I was going to the room to get the chairs and umbrella.

Another long trek to the room. When I arrived Rob was ready to go. We strapped the chairs on to our backs and grabbed the umbrella and headed down. I told Rob to wait with the stuff while I went to get Halie from E&F. She was done with her bag and waiting on me. I regret to say that I don’t have a picture of her bag, but basically it was a plain tote bag that she hotglued seashells to and colored with fabric markers. It was cute. The problem was she felt that now that she had a seashell bag she should be able to fill it with more seashells. If you can recall, she had already met her shell quota and was not allowed to take anymore home. This caused some whining, but she got over it.

Before we went to the beach we stopped at the rental area and got Halie a lifejacket. They were free and she kept asking for one. She always has to wear one at the lake so I guess it’s like her security blanket now.

When we got over to the boardwalk where you go to the beach, Chad was coming up carrying all our stuff. Watermelon Firefly Tomato. Didn’t I tell him to wait there? Now I have to carry all the beach crap back down. Apparently, he was sick of waiting. Whatever. He went up to the room to put away his fishing pole and the rest of us went to set up on the beach. Halie settled onto the sand and started playing with her new bucket and shovel her dad bought at Wal-Mart. While Chad was in the room, I decided to go over and rent us a couple boogie boards. They were $8 each so I got two of them. I knew Chad and I would have a blast on them.

We spent the rest of the day until about 1:00 boogie boarding, snorkeling (we couldn’t see anything, and Chad’s mask leaked), and building sand castles. It was FABULOUS!!!

Here are some pics from that morning.

I’m headed out to catch a wave

The boys relaxing in the DIS swap chairs. Rob never got in the water the whole time we were there. Apparently coming home and watching Shark Week after swimming at Daytona Beach last July ruined the ocean for him. Loser.

Up next: The thunder rolls, the lightning strikes.

You are such a wonderful aunt and sister! It can be tough going on vacation with family, but you can tell how happy your niece is because of you!

Around 1:00 we decided the Chicken in a Biskit crackers were going to hold us over any longer. We had to go find some lunch. Rob and I couldn’t agree on what to do with the stuff. I said we could leave the chairs, towels, shells, toys, boogie boards, etc and take the cameras and we’d be fine. He thought we should take it all with us. I figured we’d be right back. Turns out Rob was right, more on that later.

We go to the CS place by the pool and I get sticker shock. We are going to be on the DDP at WDW so looking at those prices and knowing I would have to pay them did not make me happy. Plus there was nowhere to sit that was inside. After spending all morning on the beach Rob wanted to have some AC. We decided that we could eat at the restaurant inside that took the DDE discount. We head over there. There was nothing on the menu that appealed to anyone at that moment. It was decided that Halie and I would go back to the CS and get everyone food and take it up to the room to eat while we cooled off.

Here’s what we got:
Chad- Double cheeseburger meal
Rob- Hot dog meal
Krista- Hot dog kids meal with two sides of grapes
Halie- Grilled cheese kids meal with grapes and jello

Total $26.61

P6210101.jpg

P6210102.jpg

The kids meal came in buckets. Which Halie thought she could fill with shells. No girlie girl, the shell quota is met. No more shells!!!!!

After we ate I wanted Halie to take a nap before she had to go her mug craft. She had missed the Seaside Chefs activity while we were at the beach. I didn’t want her to miss this one and we only had 45 minutes till it started, but I, I mean she, definitely needed a nap. The problem was the wind was picking up and I was getting all paranoid about our stuff down on the beach. Chad volunteered to go down and sit with the stuff. Chad came back with the umbrella. He said that while he was down there the umbrella had almost blown away. He said that after we took a nap we needed to go get the other stuff because it was definitely going to start storming.

Naptime!
P6210103.jpg

Halie and I took a 20 minute nap and then got up to go to the craft. I tried to wake up Chad to help me get the stuff, but he wouldn’t. Punk. On our way through the lobby I stopped to talk to Rob who was down there utilizing the free wireless and told him to go put up his laptop and come help me. Then, I took Halie over to E&F’s for the craft. It was raining on our way there. Then I went, IN THE POURING RAIN, to get the boogie boards before the hurricane pulled them into the ocean. God knows how much Disney would have charged me for that. The beach was deserted. I was the only idiot out there trudging though the wet sand pulling two boogie boards over to the rental counter, hoping not to get struck by lightning. I get to the rental place and nobody was there, probably inside boarding up the windows. I laid the boogie boards down and headed back over to get the chairs. As I was over getting the chairs, Rob finally showed up. We folded up the chairs and got the heck off the beach.

It was time now to get Halie from her craft. We go to the pool area and the older CM there says we cannot enter the pool area. Excuse me!?!? My niece is over at E&F’s doing a craft, I need to pick her up. Well, ma’am, I’m sorry, the pool deck is closed due to the lightning you will not be allowed over there. To steal from Melissa again, WATERMELON FIREFLY TOMATO. Get out of my way. I will be going to pick her up. I’m not deserting her in the middle of a freaking storm. I kindly inform him of this, scan my card, open the gate and walk past.

He follows Rob and I over to E&F’s and watches me like a hawk to make sure that I get her and get back out of there.

Halie wasn’t quite done…
P6210104.jpg

I don’t have a closeup of her mug, but it was really cute. It had something to represent all of her family. She wrote Harley Davidson for my dad, drew Mickey Mouse for me, a flower for her mom, a football for Rob and her dad, etc.

We left E&F’s and Rob was outside chatting with the CM. The CM was telling him a nice story about a cowboy who had gotten struck by lightning while out riding his horse. He died. Lovely story. Thank you. Bye now, I’m going to go walk in the lightning back to my room.

We got back to the room and Rob, Halie and I all laid in our bed to watch Finding Nemo. Chad was snoring his head off. Soon Halie and I fell asleep. I found out later from Rob that Chad’s snoring pissed him off so much that he left and went to Wal-Mart to escape it then he spent the rest of the time in the lobby using the internet.

When I woke up, I looked around and Rob was nowhere to be found. I called him and he was in the lobby. I thought it would be fun to go play mini golf since it was no longer raining, so I told him to come on back to the room. While I waited on him I woke everyone up. Halie and Chad are a little cranky after a nap. Thankfully Halie hadn’t heard me mention mini golf because everyone was hungry and we decided to go eat instead. We started looking on the internet for a good place to eat. I called Cee and asked her to check with JB to see where we should eat. We had such a dilemma that night picking a spot. We kinda wanted to go off property, but I was afraid we’d miss the campfire. We’d missed it the night before and I definitely didn’t want to miss it tonight as it was our last night there.

We finally decided on the Green Cabin Room at the resort. They took the DDE card and the All Ears menu looked decent. Basically it was a bar that served some food. We ate outside on the balcony which had a great ocean view.

P6210106.jpg

P6210108.jpg

We started off with a couple drinks. Chad and Rob both had a Patron Pamarita. Very tasty and at $10.25 each they better be. I had the Pina Colava. Also very tasty!

Halie with all the drinks!
P6210107.jpg

For an appetizer we had the spinach dip. It was okay. Not great, but okay. You’ll notice on this trip that Rob or Chad always try to put their hand in front of my food pictures. How rude!!
P6210110.jpg

The boys both got buffalo chicken tenders. They said they were pretty good.
P6210109.jpg

Halie got a four cheese flatbread. She didn’t like it. Chad ate some of it and I ate some of it.
P6210112.jpg

I got a sausage flatbread. It was gross. And it smelled funny.
P6210111.jpg

Overall, I thought the Green Cabin Room wasn’t very good. I wouldn’t go back. I wish we had gone off property instead. The total for the meal was $59.45 after a saving of $14 with the DDE. We ended up paying $75 after the tip. Not good enough food to spend that much. Though the drinks were definitely yummy!
While we were eating we saw something in the water. Definitely shadows near the beach. At first we thought it might be people, but they never came up for air. We still don’t know what it was, but it was spooky!!!

Halie and I left the boys as soon as we were done so we could go to the campfire. They had no interest in going. It was a long walk the opposite direction of the pool. We got over there and it was packed! We found some seats towards the back, but they were really wet from the rain. Other people had brought towels to sit on. Good thinking, I’ll pack that tidbit away for next time. I went ahead and sat on the bench and got my shorts all wet. Halie decided to sit in the sand so she could play in it while we sang.

P6210117.jpg

There were two CM’s there that led us in several songs. I remember PLUTO (BINGO), Tooty Ta, Bazooka Bubble Gum, and Boom Chicka Boom. It was really fun. Halie and I both really enjoyed it. It reminded me of being back at girl scout camp. Have I mentioned that I love Disney’s Vero Beach Resort? We broke out into random choruses of Bazooka zooka bubblegum the rest of the trip. Rob and Chad really enjoyed that. NOT!!!

Halie dancing to Tooty Ta.
P6210114.jpg

P6210118.jpg

After the songs they picked a family to make smores first that had sung the loudest. Then they went clockwise from there. That put us last, but we didn’t mind. Halie was talking to a little girl behind us who was saying they were going to WDW tomorrow. Halie told her we were too. The dad said they were staying at OKW. Us too! They had arrived at Vero yesterday. Us too! Apparently we were on the exact same vacation! What a coincidence!

Finally they came around and gave us our stick with two marshmallows on it. Then we went up to the fire to roast them. I have to say, the sticks were really short and the fire was really hot making it hard to roast the marshmallows. We use much longer sticks when we go camping. It didn’t take away from our fun though!

Halie said our marshmallows made a hidden Mickey. She was hidden Mickey obsessed on the trip.
P6210120.jpg

Halie trying to shield the heat from her eyes while roasting her marshmallows.
P6210121.jpg

After roasting the marshmallows we joined the line to have them made into a smore. Unfortunately by the time you got to the front of the line your marshmallow wasn’t hot enough to melt the candy bar, but it was still good. After we got our smore we headed back to the restaurant to find the boys.

On the path to the restaurant we found out how far we were from OKW.
P6210124.jpg

When we got to the front of the restaurant we looked up at the balcony and the guys were gone. So we went to the room. They weren’t there either. So we went to the restaurant and there they were sitting at the bar, drinking some more Patron Pomoritas. When we arrived they were just getting ready to take a shot that Chad had bought them while Rob was in the bathroom. I got ready to see Rob cringe. He doesn’t drink much. He shot it with no trouble. Chad started busting out laughing. Apparently the shot was water with a little blue coloring in it. It was really funny!!!!

We told them we were going to the gift shop and they could meet us there when they were done drinking.

Halie in front of the gift shop.
P6210125.jpg

Halie had seen these turtle statues in the gift shop and really wanted one. I told her not to touch one, but she decided to buy one with her own money so she was carrying it around while we shopped. Of course, she dropped it and it broke in half. The CM came over and was really nice about it. She said that they break them all the time and they even come in broken so not to worry about it. Then she gave Halie a new one. I was so glad, I thought we might have to buy the broken one and another one.

If you’re interested, I also bought some postcards to send my students, a cute Mickey ears hat that was made of straw and a magnet. I was sad because they were out of Vero Beach pins. You know we are pin heads now ever since our anniversary trip. We are collectors. So this was kind of disappointing.

While we were getting the postcards we were discussing that it was Grandpa’s (my dad) birthday and that we should send him a nice postcard. The CM heard us and gave us a really cute Vero Beach card with an envelope for free. Then we asked to look at the pin board and Halie found a Tink pin and she let her have it without trading for it! This girl was so nice!

As we were leaving the gift shop the guys came in. I told Rob to keep Halie downstairs for a minute while I went on up to the room. Tinkerbell needed to get in and was locked out!

When Halie got to the room she ran to her drawer as usual and found Peter Pan and Tinkerbell bubble bath and one of those shrinky dink Disney washcloths. Way to go Tink! Just what she needed to be persuaded to take a bath.

P6210126.jpg

On the way to the bath Halie latched on to Rob and wouldn’t let go. He walked around the room with her for awhile. Such fun! The kind of magic moments that happen on Disney vacations!

P6210129.jpg

After I got Halie in to bed, I got everything packed up so we’d be ready to go in the morning. We would be heading to Disney World!!!

Up next: The Sand Monster!!!

It looks like you guys had a great time there! Makes me want to go to the beach :yay: I cant wait to hear about the rest of your trip! Keep them coming :thumbsup2

OOOH, the shadows in the water would have seriously creeped me out too!!! Did Rob tell you they were sharks??? The video of him telling you where the sharks usually attack was really funny! I'm so glad you posted your report here, I'm really enjoying it!

aww so cute im glad her "sassyness" turned around for this trip! cant wait for more!
