I'm reposting my trip report that I've started on TGM here due to some requests from a few DIS buddies. The nice thing about posting it there first is that now I have several days done to post right away. Beware though, there are references to TGM people that none of my DIS friends will know. Just skip over those parts! :thumbsup2

On with the pre-trip!

The Cast of Characters:

Krista, 26- I’m a total TGM and Disney addict. I teach 4th and 5th grade on a loop and I’m currently working on my Master’s in Administration so I can run the school. I recently started teaching myself to sew and I’ve made Halie a couple things to wear on this trip.

P7140139-1.jpg

Rob, my DH, 26- Rob is a wonderful husband who used to just tolerate my love for Disney, but I’m becoming more and more convinced that he likes it just as much as I do. He’s a thrill ride fan, and will be glad to have my brother along to ride ToT with. While I’m obsessed with WDW, Rob is obsessed with WoW, World of Warcraft for the uninitiated. It’s an online computer game that consumes peoples’ lives. While I plan Disney trips, my husband plays WoW. Thank God we have two computers! Rob is also a teacher, middle school PE, and he recently got a job at one of the high schools as an assistant football coach.

P7220940-1.jpg

Chad, my brother, 27- Chad is a great father to Halie. He works for my dad’s construction company and also flips houses with one of our cousins. My brother and I are off and on. We grew up the best of friends.

scan0067.jpg

Then we pretty much hated each other through middle school and high school. Chad was sent away to a boot camp for boys who are naughty when I was a senior in high school. When he left he had just met Halie’s mother and she was pregnant. When he came back I was in college and our relationship was better. It could be that we weren’t living together anymore. We get along pretty well now, I feel like I’m the big sister because I’m the one that has a life that’s a little more together. He has been on one big vacation since he has been an adult and that was to Vegas with Rob and I, on Spring Break in 2005.

At the airport after Vegas after reuniting with Halie! I took like, no pictures on that trip, so this is literally the best I have.

DSCN0641.jpg

Rob and my brother get along pretty well. Rob, his brothers, my brother, and my dad all go bowling together on Wednesdays. They also race RC cars together. I had a hard time finding many pics of my brother. Here he is at the lake camping with us.

DSCN3781-1-1.jpg

Halie, our niece, 7 1/2- Halie is going in to 2nd grade at the school I teach, well hopefully that’s the school, her mom wants to switch, but that’s a whole other thread.

The one Princess Halie still likes…

I’m having a hard time adjusting to Halie growing up because it seemed like it literally happened overnight. One day she comes over with the snotty attitude and I’m like, what happened to my little Halie?!?!? I’m pretty sure this is the day it happened…

PA140250.jpg

She turned 7 and everything went downhill. She said she would rather go to the beach than WDW. She didn’t want to talk about the trip, and would roll her eyes when I did. It was pretty painful for me. I actually contemplated canceling the trip after one too many times of Halie’s attitude making me cry.

After several times of her attitude, her mom and dad finally took action. She has been much more pleasant since then. I have to say that since school let out, she has also improved her behavior. From what she says, the other kids in her class think WDW is for babies, and Halie is all about being popular. She does not want them to make fun of her. I know that these kids are just “hatin” because they will never get to go to WDW , but she doesn’t know that. I just have to realize that she’s growing up and she’s not the same 5 year old that I took to WDW a few years ago.

I am sure she will come around. Kids can be so mean. I can't wait to read more!

I always like to include a little WDW vacation history in my trip report.

My first trip was when I was 3 or 4 and Chad was 4 or 5. We drove down from Kansas. We visited lots of other places on the way so I’m told. We were at WDW for 3 days. My parents say we went from open to close every day with no break and we ran from ride to ride to fit everything in. Definitely not TGM style. I remember one thing from the trip; I had a giant sucker and got it all over my face. :p

scan0085.jpg

No Disney for me for years after that. Although every time I had a bad dream throughout my childhood, my mom would say think of WDW. It always helped. I still use that technique. When I was a freshman in high school my parents asked us if we would rather go to WDW or to the Mall of America and have $200 to spend on school clothes for our summer vacation. We picked the Mall.

My senior year of high school, my parents somehow got free airline tickets and were going to California to go to DL and Universal. I wanna go!!! Nope, it was just the two of them. Then one day they surprised me with a ticket. Somehow they got a third ticket and I got to go. This was when my brother was at boot camp for naughty boys. We went to Hollywood for one day, DL from open to close, and Universal from open to close. Then back home. We were total “thems” at DL. I actually remember looking at the super long wait on SM and seeing the FP machine. I remember my dad and I discussing how FP costs and that we should have gotten it. I think we rode 5 rides, saw the parade, Fantasmic, and the fireworks. That’s about it. I loved it though!!!

I realize this picture is not of DL, but of Universal. It’s the only scanned pic from that trip.
scan0105.jpg

After that I dreamed of going to WDW. It didn’t happen until 5 years later when I convinced Rob to go there for our honeymoon. Luckily I had joined TGM a few years before that when I was searching the internet for Disney information. Thanks to TGM we had a great time! :yay:

Honeymoon: July 2005
DSCN1222.jpg

As soon as I got back from our honeymoon I told my mom that we should take Halie to WDW. We started planning right away for our girl’s only trip. A few months before the trip, my dad sort of invited himself along. :faint: The trip turned out to be a disaster. Nobody would follow my TGM plans. We fought. :furious: We yelled. It was terrible. There were some good points, but it does seem like the bad outweighed them. I vowed after that trip to take Halie back with just me and we’d do it again, the right way. I told her I would take her in two years.

And to show you a picture that really demonstrates how tiny Halie was back then and why it’s hard for me to realize she’s getting bigger…

After that trip, I let my membership to TGM lapse. I felt like I was done with Disney. My dad had ruined the magic. That lasted like a month. I rejoined. Wrote the therapeutic trip report listed above and went about scheming a way to get another trip to WDW. One of my good friends and I planned a trip and even booked it for July 2007. Then she sold me out around January. I was so sad. :sad1:

Rob saw my sad face and told he would go with me. Woo hoo!! That little trip morphed into a 15 day extravaganza! We went for our 2 year anniversary and it was great. I don’t think we’ll ever top that trip. We were chosen as family of the day twice! Once at MGM on our first morning at WDW, and then at Epcot on our actual anniversary.

Family of the Day at MGM! July 2007

We got to be first on RNRC. Cee was there that day and her son and his friend rode right behind us. Don’t I look scared?!?

The best thing that happened on that trip was we bought DVC!!! I couldn’t believe it! That was something that I never thought would happen in a million bazillion years! :cheer2:

Something else happened on that trip. I had park peeps for the first time. I met up with JB, Karen, and Cee.

Cee had been the first person on TGM to really befriend me, so it was great to meet her!

Continued in next post (too many pics)

Now the story backtracks a bit here. As I was planning for the Super Duper Long Anniversary trip I realized it would be best to get an AP. Because I could use it to take Halie on our girls only trip the following June. Then I read a few WDW Marathon reports. I decided I wanted to do that. So I was getting three trips in on the AP. Well, if I’m going to have an AP, I might as well go as much as I can so I wanted to go to the TGM Zag’n’Meet. I talked my friend from school, Heather into going along with me. Now that you know the history of why those trips were planned, back to the trip reviews.

In October, my partner in crime, Heather, and I went to the Zag’n’Meet. It was great! It was a ton of fun to just be there with one of my girlfriends. I also got to meet a bunch of the people that I had been chatting on AIM with forever. Another great thing about the Zag was getting to go to MNSSHP. I’d always wanted to go!

On this trip, I met some of my friends that I’m really close to now. I also got to meet Melissa’s son Ryan!
PA050177.jpg

Not too long after the Zag, Rob and I returned to WDW for the Disney Marathon. It was also our first trip home to SSR! The marathon was fantastic! One of the most memorable things I’ve ever done. Rob wished that he had done it with me, and regretted telling me no. We are going to run it together next year though! Along with a bunch of my TGM buddies!

Disney Marathon- January 2008

I’m going to backtrack again. Remember I was buying an AP originally because I was going to take Halie the following summer in June? Well after we bought DVC, that complicated things. That evening we had dinner at Kona and Rob wanted to talk about our WDW plans for the next summer using our DVC. I told him I was planning to take Halie on a girl’s only trip. He wasn’t too thrilled with the idea of me using our points for the first trip without him. So we decided I would cancel the trip with Halie.

The next day when I told my mom, she was disappointed. She said Halie talked about going back to WDW just with me quite often. That made me feel bad, so I talked Rob into allowing Halie to come along with us. It took some convincing, but he finally agreed. :yay: That was going to be the plan until Halie turned 7.

As I said, Halie turned 7 and made a turn for the worse. I thought about canceling the trip. Then I came up with a better idea. Let’s take my brother with us and he can keep Halie in check. I don’t like to be the mean aunt that does the discipline. Let the dad do that work. I ran it by Rob. We crunched some numbers and decided we could get a 1br villa at OKW so we’d have enough space, we’d pay for his park ticket, my parents offered to pay for his airfare, and we’d figure out the dining later. We decided to surprise him on Christmas. In the meantime I booked the airfare, hotel, and made a rough itinerary.

There were a few times in between that I had enough of a 7 year old treating me badly. I told my brother and he told me to just not take her. He had no idea that I couldn’t just not take her because he was going to. It was a rough time. I just wanted Christmas to arrive so I could tell him and he would understand why I couldn’t just tell Halie she couldn’t go.

On the night before Rob and I left for TX to have Christmas with his family, we had Christmas with my family. I had made Chad a note announcing the surprise. It was wrapped in a big box full of newspaper with the note at the bottom. As he read it his smile got bigger and bigger! I hadn’t hoped for a lot of enthusiasm because most men I know just don’t show any. He was pretty excited though. Let the real planning begin!

Chad with his note.

When we first started planning this trip it was supposed to be 10 days at OKW in a 1br. I had booked it at 7 months out based on the dates that Allegiant was flying from here. Allegiant is a super cheap airline that flies direct from here to Sanford, which is about an hour from WDW.

So I have it all booked and I’m waiting for Allegiant to release their June dates. Finally they come out and they have switched from flying Wednesday and Saturday to Friday and Monday only. This totally screwed us. We could no longer afford the 1br villa for the whole time. Instead of staying 1 weekend, we now had two weekends. Anyone who owns DVC knows that two weekends equals major points. We were already using all of our banked points from the year we bought plus all of this years points. There was no way I was going to borrow.

I panicked. Only briefly though. At that time Cee was going to Vero Beach. I thought I should try to go there first and then head to WDW. That way we wouldn’t have to start in a studio at WDW and then switch to a 1br. It would just be a few days at Vero in an Inn Room and then on to WDW in our 1br. This worked out great because instead of one day at Daytona at the end of the trip, we were getting a couple days at the beach. And since Halie is a total weirdo, she’d rather go to the beach than to WDW. This girl has mixed up priorities. I am a little worried that she isn’t going to want to leave Vero at all. She is going to love it so much. She is very outdoorsy and loves to find shells. It’s going to be right up her alley.

Here are our plans now…

June 20-22: Disney’s Vero Beach Resort
June 22-29: OKW
June 29-30: Holiday Inn Sanford (our flight leaves super early, so I’d rather stay by the airport than have to drive so early.)

We are doing the DDP even though we have a kitchen. Rob and my bubba insisted on it. Rob and I have PAP and we are getting Chad and Halie MYW with the plus options. We might add park hopping once we get there. We’ll see how it goes.

We’ve also decided to rent a car for the whole trip this time. This is our first time having a car for the full trip. I don’t know how much we’ll use it, but I’ve heard too many scary things about the bus transportation lately. When I heard someone say they missed a rope drop even though they were at the bus stop an hour before the park opened, that sealed the deal for me.

The trip is in two days so I started my ritual of freaking out that I’m not ready. I just got back from getting my nails done and getting my dot dot toes. Now it’s time to get sewing!!!!

On Monday I went to Hobby Lobby and got the remainder of the cloth and ribbon needed to finish Halie’s outfits and matching bows. Yesterday I finished sewing the pirate shirts for the cruise that Halie is going on with Jen’s girls. 5 pirate shirts= PITA. They will look super cute though! I also sewed Halie another Minnie themed halter.

Today, I’m making her AK shirt, my AK shirt, MGM shirt, HDDR shirt, and both of us a Minnie ribbon shirt like I had last year. Hopefully my BIL’s GF is going to make the bows to match Halie’s outfits. She was supposed to help yesterday and totally flaked out on me. If she doesn’t come through by this evening, I’m just doing it myself.

Yesterday I counted all the change in my piggybank. I had $98 in coins. Not too shabby. I was pleasantly surprised to also find dollar bills that I had forgotten were in there. I was downright shocked to find a $100 bill!! After some thinking about it, I remembered that I put it in there when I got back from going to Vegas with Kim. Nice little bonus! So I had $252 saved up that was kind of like “free money” in a way. It’s always nice to find free money.

Last time Halie went, she got all kinds of gifts from Tinkebell. They always had a note with them. I don’t think the notes will happen this year, but there will be gifts. Who knows if she’ll still believe, but I have been buying stuff since that trip so she is getting them. I left my camera at my mom’s. Later I can take a picture of all her gifts. Including all the new crap I just bought at Dollar Tree. I’m a sucker for Disney trinkets I tell ya!

Day 1, June 20, 2008: Arrival

I awoke Halie in the morning with a beautiful rendition of the Mickey Mouse Club song sung by yours truly. She didn’t want to wake up. I grabbed her feet and started to drag her out of the bed and told her she would be falling on her head soon if she didn’t get up. This made her start laughing, so she got up.

My mom arrived by 7:00 to take us to pick up my brother. Here’s the little princess on the way to get her daddy.

P6190003.jpg

My brother was ready when we arrived. I believe it’s because I told him we’d be there at 7:00 when I knew it would really be 7:15. I didn’t want to be waiting around on people.

Here’s the first of many pictures of Chad with his eyes shut.
P6190004.jpg

Chad got in a car accident when Halie was 2 years old and he has a big scar on one side of his face. The scar makes one of his eyes not open as much giving him the appearance of a lazy eye. He doesn’t help the situation by not even trying to open his eyes for pictures.

On the way to the airport, I read Chad and Halie the pirate code. I had AIMed Cee at like 6:30 in the morning trying to find the code. Being the helpful sista she is, she found the link and sent it to me. I explained that I was the captain of this trip and they had to say “Aye Aye Captain” after each line of the code. Halie loved it. My brother aye ayed a couple times. A couple is more than none right?

The Pirate Code

In exchange for passage on this vessel, I agree to abide by the Pirate Code.
1. Pirates don’t whine. I won’t whine while at Walt Disney World.
2. I will follow the plan my Captain has set forth for me. Treasure cannot be obtained without following the plan and the code.
3. I agree not to wear myself out pillaging all day. I will stop for a siesta and dip in the cool waters midday. However, on the day of the Pirate and Princess Party I agree not to dip in the cool waters, but only to take a siesta in a dark room with my eyes closed. I know that many gold pieces have been shelled out for me to attend said event and I want to make the most of gathering booty that night.
4. Drink up me hearties yo ho! Not rum, mateys! Water, and plenty of it to stay hydrated in the tropical sun.
5. I agree to be ready to sail (be at the bus stop) no later than 7:50.
6. Rides First, Characters Second, Shopping is a distant Third. I will stick to the code, I will stick to the code, I will stick to the code…..
7. All pirates must be able to navigate their own way. I will read the map.
8. For maximum time to pillage and plunder the World, when one goes, all must go (to the bathroom, that is).
9. I will not irritate my Captain.
10. If one falls behind they will be left behind. (Not really, but I do agree to make every effort to not keep others waiting if I need more time. They can carry on; I will catch up later.)
(Those who do not abide by the Pirate Code will be forced to walk the plank)
I agree to abide by this here Code: ____________________

We arrived at the airport about 1.5 hours before our flight. Notice my super cute Disney World shirt that MK gave me!

P6190005.jpg

We walked in and the Allegiant line was HUGE. It always is. We got to the desk to check-in and they gave us three seats next to each other and one across the aisle. We determined that Rob would sit across the aisle. Then we went to grab a bite to eat. We always eat at the same place at our airport. It’s owned by a family of a guy Rob played college football with and he usually gives us a discount. Well no discount today, and it took for-ev-errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr (read that like the Goonies.) By the time we got our food (in to go boxes since it took so long), guzzled our drinks, and got through security our plane was boarding. We got lucky when we got on the plane and discovered that nobody was sitting next to Rob. Bonus!

Halie took some pictures of us all on the airplane. She is quite the photographer.

I played with Halie with some of her awesome toys that her awesome Aunt packed in her awesome new Minnie Mouse backpack. After awhile I switched over and sat with Rob. Halie took another picture of me from across the asile. What can I say, she takes after her aunt in loving to take pictures.

I looked out the window mid flight and guess who was flying along next to us?!?!?!

Halie and Chad when we are getting ready to land!
PICT0020.jpg

We landed right on time and we were towards the front of the plane so we were off and ready to go quickly! Rob and Chad decided to wait for the luggage while Halie and I went to get the rental car. We had decided to get a rental car for the whole trip this time. Previously we have gotten it for arrival day and departure day. Let me just say now, WE LOVED IT!!! We will never go without a car again.

Halie and I headed out to Alamo to pick out our ride. The thing with Alamo at Sanford Airport is that it is outside and is the farthest rental car counter of all of them. Halie didn’t mind though, because as soon as she got outside, she saw a lizard. She snapped a quick picture of it!

PICT0022.jpg

When we got to the Alamo counter the line was longer than Dumbo at 1:30 in the afternoon. We got in and started waiting. Halie entertained us by taking our pictures with characters.

PICT0024.jpg

PICT0025.jpg

After we wrapped around the queue a few times I saw some electronic kiosks. I wondered if I could check in there, but I didn’t want to hop out of line to check. Nobody else was going to them so I had no idea if they even worked. After awhile Rob came in. They had the luggage and were wondering what the heck was taking us so long. By now I was at the very end of queue. I showed him the electronic thing and he went to check it out. Then he waved me over. Before getting out of line, I vowed to kill him if it didn’t work.

We checked in easy as pie on the kiosk! The only problem was our free additional driver that we had due to our discount code didn’t show up. We weren’t worried about it though. We grabbed our paperwork and went out to get the car. We headed towards the economy row and saw a little SUV. I immediately wanted it. Rob went to ask if we could and the guy said that it wasn’t an economy level car but since it was parked there we could take it. BONUS!

I got in and started it up while Rob went to get the family and our luggage. In the meantime I called Cee to brag that I was in Florida. I also called Melissa who was napping or something and not answering.

Sounds like a fun trip. I can't wait to read more!

Sounds like you had so much fun...how did you get picked as Family of the Day twice???? If I were you, I'd play the lottery!

Great trippie so far!

I have copied the Pirate Code for our trip. I will make my girls AND HUSBAND agree to it! :lmao: Great idea!

I love all your backstory and the old pictures!

It's too bad Halie is concerned about being popular at such a young age. It seems like that happens earlier and earlier these days! I'm sure the car wasn't moving in the picture of Halie unbuckled in it, right? ;)

It looks like Halie has the same camera as Arminda (Teresa's daughter). I believe Buzz if flying outside their airplane in her trip report, too! How cool that he escorts people to Disney!

You need to add a link to your TR in your signature!

It was a great time! Definitely a trip to remember!

We are super lucky I guess! I started to post that trip report over here on the DIS, but nobody was really reading it so I stopped. It was such a great trip!

I love the pirate code!!! Cant wait to hear more :surfweb:

A guy on TGM wrote the pirate code. I love it!

I looked back at the picture of Halie, just sure it would be in our driveway. Looks like the car was moving! I'm sure it's right before I caught it and told her to buckle up!

I bought Halie that camera after seeing Arminda's in Teresa's TR. I also took the Buzz picture because I saw it in Teresa's!!! LOL!!

Krista, thank you so much for posting this for us here!!!!! Ok, look up at what HeatherSue wrote, and that is exactly what I was going to say!

All of it! Scary, isn't it! :scared1:

That is very cool that you bought the camera after seeing it in my TR!!! Arminda still really loves hers!

I can't wait to read more!!!

Upon leaving the airport we promptly got lost. My brother told us for $10 he could get GPS on his phone for the month. Rob said no. I said get it. Rob wins. We drive around lost for 5 more minutes. I tell Chad to get the GPS. He orders it up and soon we are on our way to Vero Beach!

Now I have to say, I don’t know how we ever traveled without GPS before. That is a wonderful invention. The fights between husbands and wives that don’t happen due to that wonderful invention are numerous I’m sure. Or maybe we’re the only husband and wife that argue over which turn to take when lost. I doubt that though.

On the way to Vero we were all getting quite hungry. I told Chad that there are Chik-Fil-A’s in Florida. He got all excited and asked his girlfriend (this is what he affectionately called his GPS unit with the beautiful female voice) where the nearest one was. At first we thought it was on the way then we discovered it was quite a ways off the highway. We decided instead to take the next exit where we found a Burger King.

P6200009.jpg

P6200010.jpg

After Burger King, I took over the driving duties and everyone fell asleep. I just love that. I always stay awake to talk to the driver, but as soon as I’m the driver, I’m on my own. Nobody chats with me.

Chad’s girlfriend guided me right to Vero Beach with no problems at all. Everyone woke up when I opened the sunroof in hopes of smelling the ocean. Chad and Halie were very excited. Halie had never seen the ocean and Chad hadn’t seen it since he was younger than Halie. Finally after about 2 hours we pulled up to Disney’s Vero Beach Resort!!!!! Halie and I went inside to check-in.

The doormat, yes I take pictures of everything!!!
P6200013.jpg

We go to the counter to check-in and Halie announces that she has to pee. NOW. Darn it. I wanted to see where our villa was. We told the guy we’d be right back and ran to the restroom. On the way I got a picture of this cannon in the hallway.

P6200014.jpg

Back at the check-in counter we had a very nice CM. He seemed very excited about our room and said we had a great view of the ocean. I had reserved an ocean view inn room and had no idea what to expect. We lucked out with a top floor room! He gave Halie a bookmark about sea turtles.

P6200015.jpg

The check-in packet was so cute!

P6200017.jpg

He gave us a great rundown of Vero beach and all the activities. He was really nice. After we checked in I took a quick picture of Halie in the lobby then we headed to the car to get the boys.

P6200016.jpg

At VB you park in a parking garage that is basically underneath the lobby. This was really nice. We got a parking spot right by the elevator and my brother got a luggage cart. We had enough luggage to last a month.

The view from the top floor down to the lobby.

Then I told everyone not to mess the room up before I took my million trip report pictures. We even had a towel animal! (Halie tore it up right after I took a picture, doesn’t that girl know that towel animals are sacred?)

The best thing happened at this moment of our trip. Remember how worried I’d been that Halie wouldn’t feel the magic? She was “too old” for everything. I told her to go in the bathroom and put on her swimsuit and while she was in there I put some Disney sand toys “from Tinkerbell” in the second drawer of the TV stand. When she came out, I gave her my Passporter and asked her to put it in my drawer of the TV stand. I was hoping she would find the toys, but something even better happened.

She put my book in the top drawer. Then she announced that the second drawer was hers. She ran to get her backpack and put it in the drawer. When she opened it she freaked out! I wish I had my video camera on. She couldn’t believe that not only Tinkerbell had brought her a gift just like last time, but Tink also knew which drawer was going to be hers. She went on and on about it. Chad and Rob actually did a fabulous job of playing along with it and exclaiming their amazement with Tinkerbell. I loved it! It was truly a magical moment.

Up next: “This is the best day of my life,” screams Halie.

Oh, I'm so glad Halie is feeling the magic!!!! How cool!! I can't wait to hear why it's the best day of her life!

How sweet! Hopefully she is learning to not care about what the other kids think.

Great report so far - looking forward to the rest!
