I just flew home tonight from a work trip to Toronto. (I'm from Winnipeg) We were at the Radisson Hotel right by the SkyDome. It was great to see all the Bomber and Roughrider fans out. I got to spend a couple hours down at the street festival this afternoon before heading to the airport.

And guess who was on my airplane home? The Bison football team! Beside the football team there was also about 30 search and rescue workers flying back to Winnipeg some with their dogs. It was quite the flight!!! We were about 30 mins late leaving Toronto because they couldn't figure out where to put the Vanier Cup, LOL. It wouldn't fit underneath with the luggage, then they tried the cockpit but it was too big but they put the MVP trophy in the cockpit. It was really quite the event and let's say the team was very enthusiastic. All kinds of pictures going on, first passengers got pics done with the team, then the search and rescue guys with the Vanier cup then the flight attendants and pilots with the cup, etc.

I was chatting with one of the players and I said I was surprised that they didn't stay to watch the Grey Cup. He said the team wouldn't pay for another hotel night and that most of the team had already missed a week of school and so needed to be back at school on Monday.

Anyways was an interesting flight home!

Yeah, too bad they couldn't stay, but it is mid-terms for a lot of them!

I can't even imagine a flight with jazzed up university football players! Add in the rescue dogs et al - it must have been crazy! But very cool!

I think it's awesome that a lot of the Bombers made an effort to be at the Vanier game, (don't know if you read that anywhere), but it's nice to see that (transplanted) hometown pride!

It's also fantastic to see Wpg getting interested in "amateur" football - the emphasis on non-pro games is what really elevates the US program. At least IMHO! I mean, where else do the future pro stars come from??

I also LOVE the fact that the Prairies really get to represent in TO (although the Argos in the Cup would have been great for the CFL as a whole.) I read that the Wpg party was quite a bit crazier than Sask's. Just what Toronto needs - a bunch of "hicks" getting hammered in their city!!

There was an article in the Free Press that TO wasn't really acknowledging the Cup - did it seem that way to you?

What a great game this will be! Two long time prairie rivals playing in the Grey Cup for the first time in TO. People around Regina have been wearing green all week - except the statue of the Queen in front of the Legislative building. Apparently somehow she was adorned with a Blue Bombers toque, t-shirt and a few other decorations. Here is a link to that story --> Statue of Queen gets a makeover.

I went shopping at Eaton Centre on Tuesday and was looking for a Grey Cup souvenir for my son. I couldn't find anything and I asked a few people and basically the response was, What football game? We're having the Grey Cup?
LOL It was very funny. But by the end of the week I could find a couple of stands with souvenirs but they were set up by the CFL and in the hotels where the fans and teams were staying. The Roughriders were at the Westin and that seemed to be where most of the Saskatchewan fans were but I don't know where the Bombers were.

We want the double! Yeah Bisons, then Yeah Winnipeg! I want to send out poor Ryan Dinwiddie our best. I really feel for him coming in like this, and I truly hope for him he has his "Cinderella moment"! He needs a Disney game full of wishes granted. Besides, if he comes thru, Disney could definately make a movie here!
