two-way radios?

I have an older pair of Motorola Talkabouts that I've used before on vacations (just need to track down some new batteries though). At Target, I found a pair of Disney radios for $22. Same manufacturer, Motorola, using the same FRS frequencies.

Does anyone have practical experience at WDW using these Motorola products? Are the "frequencies/interference eliminators" crowded?

(The Motorola Talkabouts performed amazingly well on a ski trip, with one radio at the condo/base of the mountain, and the other near the summit at Breckenridge!)

I dont have exp with the MM Radioes but when we tried to use our radioes last June we had nothing but interferance problems.

Does anyone know if any type of radio's work???/ We were thinking of bringing ours also---maybe just better to bring our cell phones and call each other????

I want to know this too. Which one works best to take with you when you go to Disney World?::MickeyMo ::MinnieMo

And they worked great. We all selected the same frequency, made seperate responses for each individual (goofy, mickey, minney, etc.) and they worked well for us. We actually had no problem using them to meet up, etc.

I would recommend them highly

We had 14 channels and 14 subchannels, and only a few times, would pick up others trying to use the channels. We travelled with another family, so when we did get lost which we did at Animal Kingadom, we were able to relocate ourselves (although it took 2 hours, as we decided to quit waiting, and do our own thing). If we didn't have them, we might still me there looking for them!! (I wish we were there still!!). You will get some interference, those parks are big and it also help us with giving driving directions, back and forth from the condo. Either use the radio, or the cell phone! I'm all thumbs for them! Christina::MinnieMo

We used our motorola two-way radios at Six Flags a few years ago and while there were quite a few people on the same channel, it was kind of amusing. :) Other people would answer us and then realize we weren't their mom/wife/friend and it was good for a few laughs. We'd like to use them at DW this summer just so that we can split up and still be able to locate the other half of our group. Will they work well? This is an EXCELLENT question as this is something we haven't covered yet in our trip planning ( as far as should we buy new ones etc.)

We will be "trying" to use them in our upcoming trip. I will report back and let everyone know how it went!

We bought Cobra Walkie Talkies when the FRS system came out many years ago. They only have 2 channels. Originally they worked amazingly in the parks, but now that everyone has caught on we are unable to use them because they have no privacy codes and the channels are sooo busy. We just upgraded to Motorola T5950s. They have a 5 mile range, 28 channels and 99 privacy codes. Some of the channels use FRS and Some use GMRS. The GMRS channels require a special license to operate. We have decided to stick to the FRS channels, but with 99 codes we should have no problem having uninterrupted communication and we won't have to listen to everyone else's conversation. We will however need to monitor the channel before transmitting so that we don't interfere with others using the same channel. The point of this long message is that the newer models have many more features specifically privacy codes and multiple channels that make them well worth the money. I will never try the older ones again because the 2 channels get way overused.

We also used the Motorola T5950 last july. It works pretty well. Like my3princes states, just observe what channel you are on.
